Thats a good price.
Just been reading about this on AV forums and it seems a good bit of kit.
Pixmania are poor when it comes to returns, but with something as small as a remote I reckon at this price its wortha stab.
4% quidco also.
I'm gonna give it a try, Thanks !!
#2
A great deal! I paid £140 for it last year. A really good remote if you've got lots of stuff.
#3
How is this with Sky+ box? Work fine as there's a load of buttons on the sky remote as we all know.
#4
It devours sky +, no problems at all.
#5
I was a little concerned with the lack of coloured buttons for sky on this remote, but have read on AV forums that the 885 does have these buttons, it seems that all the pics are of the 880 which is th US model and does not have coloured buttons.
Perhaps an 885 owner can confirm this ?
There is a 33 page thread on avforums about this remote, which should answer most of your queries.
#6
People who buy this must spend a lot of time watching the box lol. Just kidding! I just find it funny paying almost £100 for a poncy remote when the factory one will just do the same job. Just save space since when are you going to use all your AV at once?
#7
I can't emphasise this enough, DO NOT BUY FROM PIXMANIA, no customer services, waiting up to 6 weeks for delivery, no refund policy and you have no statutory rights because they're based in France, you have been warned.
#8
Can't believe this.

Been searching for the best part of a year since my Harmony 525 broke for a deal ion the 885.

In the end, I got a REFRURBISHED 885 from AMAZON for £86 which I was delighted with.

At this price, snap em up.
#9
That's a good price from Pixmania. They have the same remote on eBay on buy it now for £105.
#10
This remote is great!
The best i've ever had, can be tricky to set up at first but worth the trouble as you can control everything from one easy to use remote via the colour screen which works a bit like an ATM machine.

The £88 price is HOT! I paid £125 for mine 1yr ago and it's still the only remote I use to control all my gadgets Tv/HiFi/Pvr/Dvd/Sky/ basically anything that uses a remote.

The UK model does have the four coloured sky buttons.

If you like cool gadgets you will love it.
#11
sorry but this was the worst remote i have had, the buttons were small and the screen was no better, Save up and get yourselfs a pronto

I have an older model the 665. My wife loves it.
The good thing is it replaces all your remotes, and it will turn on all the correct equipment with just the press of one button.
Eg. If I press the 'watch a movie' button, it will do the following:-
Turn on the plasma.
Turn on the DVD player.
Turn on the scart switch box and set it to the correct input.
Turn on my Receiver and set it to the correct input.

I would need 4 remote controls just to watch a movie :)

And with a press of the 'off' button everything is switched of in one go.
These are good remotes.
#13
I have a 'lesser' Harmony remote and is superb and also easy to set up, if you can't get a particular button to work properly it can learn almost any IR command from another device

Also I have had two items from Pixmania and had no problems
#14
Reviews that this item is great for what it does.

Well guys, reality check, its a remote control!!!! at £88 you would expect it to do what you guys want it to and more.

Its abit more complicated than that.....if you had 6 remotes to use your av stuff you'd understand ;)

To the bloke further up saying that you don't use all your av stuff at once so whats the point?

Well actually you might not use ALL of it at once....but for example...

Watching HD DVD on xbox 360 i would need control of

plasma
Xbox 360
amp

For Sky you would need

Sky remote
plasma
amp

CD player you'd need

cd player
amp
plasma (to turn it off)

(Thats just to turn it all on etc)

Then there's no clutter, and they last forever pretty much

The REAL price of this remote including delivery is £94.40 thats including the cheapest delivery option

Also, the £7 off promotion that was posted a couple messages up DOES NOT WORK

Just wasted 10 mins signing up to a fake email account etc to get the code, only for me to type it in and the PIXmania site saying its EXPIRED!!!!!

The bloody cheek of pixmania, still sending the email out wiaiting for me to fill out a page to create an account and then hopeing i buy!!!

Good price. I paid something like £85 inc shipping from Pixmania almost a year ago (before I'd even discovered HUKD).

My only fault with the remote is that the buttons can be a bit unresponsive. I can be fast-forwarding through a DVD and hit play at the bit I want but the button press doesn't register. I then need to rewind for a bit... Other than that it's excellent.

I do use almost all of my AV kit at once. To watch a DVD I need:

DVD player on
TV on and set to HDMI1
Stereo Amplifier on and set to Video (to power the front speakers)
AV Amp on and set to DVD input.

To do that without an advanced remote would take 4 remotes and 7 button presses across the different remotes. With the Harmony it's just one button...

i had to vote cold simply because i hate pixmania...sorry. their CS is horrendous.

Quidco knocks off another £3.00 - It seems they only pay on value before VAT which is a bit tight, still its better than nowt.

18 Dec 2007 17:42:28 PIXmania 74.893.00 tracked ~ Feb 2008

Makes it £91.40 delivered.

Never had a problem with Pixmania, I've used them several times and returned an item once which was no problem. I did have to pay for return postage, which could be a problem on large items but I'm not worried about a remote control.

That must mean you leave all of your AV equipment on Standby all the time. Very naughty!

Not if you use remote controlled power socket adapters!!! :-D

If my calculations are correct it's all cancelled out by leaving the fridge open 5 extra seconds each time I make a cup of tea and get the milk out. Altho I've found that the extra effort of standing there waiting for 5 extra seconds leads to my legs getting cold so I'm drinking twice as much Tea to keep warm. I compensate for this by living in a Tree.

I got all my handy tips from http://www.chinese-embassy.org.uk/eng/

152 degrees? It must be one hell of a remote. Is it made of titanium?
#29
this is a great buy i got a 880 (same but no coloured buttons for fast text) for £70
if i had seen this i would have snapped it up

everywhere i looked for the 885 it was £160+
#30
I have a kameleon remote I bought off Fleabay for £20, not quite as fancy, but has replaced my 4 remotes.
#31
The kit I have to control is:

TV
SkyHD
DVD Recorder
HD DVD player
Amplifier
Component Switch Box
XBox 360
Media Streamer
Lights

This remote has meant I have not had to pick up the remotes for any of the above for over a year. The wife can use it too without a problem.

It will turn on/off/set the inputs for any combination of the above with the press of one button, and then all the controls appropriate to the devices used will be available via all the other buttons etc. All easily ammendable to your situation.

No macros needed to be programmed and no faffing like you have to do with a pronto.

This thing, and any harmony, is amazing. And for £94 this is a bargain.

Do you have any clue what leaving equipment on standby uses as energy or are you just repeating stupid stuff you read in some media articles written by some journo that was trying to sell articles by feeding on mass hysteria? Or some politicians trying to sounds green at no cost to themsleves?

Hints:
- stop drinking tea
- stop using a hair drier
- go to the loo in the dark
- walk to the corner shop
- park at the far end of the supermarket parking (so you don't waste petrol zigzagging trying to find a space 10m closer to the front door)

Any of the above will save much more energy than not leaving well designed electronics on standby (well designed electronics should use less than 1W on standby)

My TV was cheaper....:-D

My TV was cheaper....:-D

Personally, I find it a bit on the expensive side. But it's all relative. Peoples with £1500 TV, £1000 AV amp, £1000 speakers, £400 game console, £1000 HTPC, etc. are not that rare. It's not that rare to see >£3000 of equipment in a living room (the sky is the limit). Peoples will buy dozens of £30+ games or lots of dvds and cds. After a few years, one probably count the value of media of many peoples in £1000s again.

So in that context, a £90 remote control is maybe not the end of the world. Sure a £10 one will work but not as well. Sure a £200 TV will allow you to watch TV but some peoples do buy 50" Pioneer plasmas.

will a single factory remote switch all your inputs on your various a/v devices to their right setting with the press of one button? no i didn't think so.

i don't think you fully understand the concept pal

the 885 is a hell of a remote - snap it up @ that price.
