How does this compare to the Microsoft Intellimouse recommended in this thread:

Be warned they do make a high pitched buzzing sound, i sent mine back because of it. And looking on various websites im not the only one who had the same problem. I think it's the capacitors they use.

Nice mouse if you don't have hypersensitive ears tho :)

They both seem fairly similar to me, but if I'm honest, in a position where you're indecisive, the hordes of recommendations for this mouse every single time it's posted would swing it for me. Thoroughly recommended. I've had mine for years. Not to mention that if you ever get a problem with it, Logitech's customer service is exemplary. They exchanged a dodgy keyboard for me years outside its warranty, and all they asked for were some pictures of the serial and stuff. It arrived in three days.

Thanks Quietus - I'll go with your advice. Cheers.

Got one of these for my sister, good value at this price.

Awesome mouse. Had mine for years with a G15 keyboard.

Saying that, I can't use windows based mice anymore. Apple Magic Mouse / Trackpad ruined every other mouse / laptop pad for me, horizontal scrolling is such a big miss.
#16
Not sure if I should get this or wait for its successor, the G400... cracking price though.
#17
Expired, says £28.90.

Terrible imo... Go for a 3200dpi with a dpi switch between 400 800 1600 3200 for true precision in gaming and web brousing... Just my 2 cents lol :)
#19
Actually no, wait, ignore me lol. It's £18.17 if you buy from Amazon directly but it takes 3 - 5 weeks to dispatch oO

The one you had was one of a kind if it made a high pitched buzzing sound.

Best mouse I've ever had - 3 years of flawless service and I'd not replace it with anything else.

The idiots who rattle on about DPS have no idea what they're talking about - they're conflating pointer acceleration and sensor accuracy for starters!!

You can make ANY mouse move the pointer faster, extra DPI only permits more accurate positioning and it's dependant on being able to report it's position often enough (a major problem with cordless mice and on machines with some types of USB interface).

Let's assume you move your mouse on a 4" square mousepad (pretty small) - a 2800DPI mouse would report a 10200x10200 array of possible positions - how many people here have monitors with a resolution anything like that? No?

Conversely, if you map a 1920x1080 display onto that same 4" area, each pixels corresponds to a movement of 2 thousandths of an inch - that's .05mm - can you move your hand that accurately - because that's 8-9 'dots' of mouse accuracy :)

DPI on a mouse is like top speed on a car - means almost nothing to 99.9% of people who buy one.

Anyone interested in buying one of these mice should do so now or soonish as Logitech have announced they're going to stop producing them, replacing them with their new "upgrade" of it, the G400 around mid-July.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/06/09/logitech-launches-g400-mouse/

From what I can tell, the G400 is essentially the same as the MX518, but has a higher DPI (3600) - however here's the kicker, it's also going to be much more expensive. RRP is apparently £50, Logitech's own site have it for £35 on preorder though.

I've been using my MX518 since it first came out around 2005 and it's still going strong. I honestly don't see any reason why you'd want the G400 when the MX518 is more than sufficient in gaming and especially when you can get one this cheap.

That's what I've been contemplating, especially since it's going to be phased out next month.

That's what I was thinking. Wait for G400 or get MX518 now? I was looking forward to G400 as it looks nicer than MX518 and it's 'new.' But if its not much of an upgrade then... screw it :(

about time amazon got these back in stock. was waiting for weeks but got 1 of ebay in the end for abit more. cracking mouse, by the way logitech g400 comes out next month, it's a revision of this.
