Anyone know if you can turn the alarm off via the remote control?

I need to have the unit several feet away from the bed so out of reach.

Is this a portable set of speakers that can take batteries?

It seems to have a rechargeable internal battery - see here - http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/accessories/0,39100116,49293381,00.htm

I've had one of these for a while now (from Tesco, similar price) and it's a great little bit of kit. I use it to charge my iPhone 3G on a night and as an alarm clock. The motion-sensitive "wave" sensor is pretty useful - handy for when you quickly want to activate snooze in the morning and don't want to fish around looking for a button.

Sound quality is reasonable for what you'll be using it for.
