Brought this for £39.90 the other week.

They're good speakers but the bass is very heavy. I find it difficult to find the sweet spot between being a thudding noise and representation of the bass tones.

I have this for a good while now for £39.99 Amazon few years back , it replaced a 5:1 Logitech system that I have at work now for mp3 player ..

Its a great set and the Woofer does bed in with time gets better sounding well worth £35

Yeah I have noticed that - good sound if you can cope with heavy bass.

I have to turn it to bass reducer in iTunes and even then it gets OTT - and I LOVE bass.

Also I've noticed that high bass is not seriously prominent, yet deep and sub bass makes the sub go CRAAAZY. Overall it very good for bass heads for cheap surround sound party speakers.

Bought the 2.1 version of this 5 years ago and still going with it! Great sound but yeah as someone else has mentioned the bass is heavy even on the lowest setting. Brilliant system though you can't go wrong as long as you are ok with the bass. Heat.

Such a common mistake to type "brought" instead of "bought".. :P
#14
Could I just plug this into my TV or MacBook and this'll play 5.1?

Pay the extra £5 and go for the X540 from Logitech itself.

Very impressed with the sound quality of this speaker system.
These speakers can be turned up full with very little in the way of distortion.
Superb build and sound quality for the price. If you want a 5.1 speaker system for your PC these are an abolute must buy!"
Pros: easy to set up
Cons: speaker cables could be longer on front speakers

x540 is priced £89 which is obviously £50 more than this, and looks almost identical not that BETTERER other than the remote control thingy..........

The deal included the use of a code that was listed in the title. I imagine that the £90 will drop as soon as they have more stock so they can say, "£xx off". People who posted on that deal said they had seen it for the same price elsewhere so my recommendation still stands for what is generally regarded as a superior set.

'Betterer' was a joke.

No. You will need a decoder (or speakers or a receiver with a decoder built-in). There are other 5.1 Logitech systems that have an optical input. If your TV has optical out, and it outputs 5.1 over the optical out (some TVs only give digital stereo), then they should give you 5.1 from the TV (assuming what you are watching was broadcast/recorded in 5.1).

I believe these are meant for pc use and you'll not be able to get true 5.1 surround without a soundcard. The X-540s have 'matrix mode' that will produce sound from all six speakers with only one line-in, although this is not true surround. I don't know if the X-530 have this feature.

I've got 'em hooked up to my Sony Bravia via the 3.55 headphone output using splitters. It sounds good to me but unsure if it's true surround sound.
#30
Not true 5.1 surround,

you will need hardware decoder such as my previous post, this is obviously the not best way of doing it but by far cheaper, other option you will need AV receiver DTS decoder, Try Currys clearance store as I got my Pioneer 7.1 amp from there for £75 :) Massive reduction from £400

I must say I have no Bass issues may be where the sub is situated ...
#32
Bought mine today, absolutely worth the money. Great bass and high frequencies. A very nice buy!
#33
Bought these on impulse....even though I have creative speakers which I know the sound quality is better than Logitech....but great price for £34.99 still £79.99 in my local staples.

But now I have seen the Logitech's Z-5500 Digital 5.1 Speaker System which looks so much nicer and 500 watts compared with 70 + a controller for desk.....want it!! want it!!.......i know they are £200 but if i wait by the bargin bin in pc world may be good things will happen....
