Immerse yourself in the game with the outstanding surround sound of Logitechs X-540 speaker system. Dual driver satellites use FDD2 technology to eliminate uneven response created by conventional dual driver designs and matrix mode creates 5.1 surround sound from 2-channel sources. An innovative centre channel speaker clips onto the top of most flat-panel LCD monitors. The ported subwoofer features dynamic, real-time equalization that maximizes bass while minimizing distortion. The X-540 also features a convenient control pod with volume and subwoofer level controls, as well as a headphone jack for private listening. Satellite stands rotate for easy wall mounting.

I just did a quick search on them and if the info was correct these do not have an optical connector so you cannot get 5.1 from xbox or xbox 360 you can use em as 2 channel stereo if you wanted and then use upmix - matrix as they call it to put sound onto 4 speakers but you will hear strange noises, you might as well just use stereo speakers as a cheaper option as 5.1 will be wasted.

And the wires are quite short.

bought these last year on offer at Novatech was £44.99....theyre exceptional value and perfectly good enough for a pc in a reasonable sized room, 10ftx10ft....they are nowehere near good enough for a decent av system though, but hey they cost £45, not £000's that decent av systems cost

yeh but easily fixed some phono connectors from eg maplin....they have 2m, 5m and 10m ones....if you need longer you need to question why and if so whether a decent system would be better.

I'm after the same thing. How about these:

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=A1142107

or these:

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=A1509565

As far as I can see those are exactly the same product, but have a look yourself. In the spec it says "1 x digital 5.1 channel audio line-in "

£35.31 after coupon :-D

Actually i'm not sure these are up to it i'm just really confused now.. http://www.mediacollege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3874

You sir, are a muppet. I suggest you fact check before you post, then it might not be so easy to see that you are in fact, the aforementioned muppet.

Edit. This response is for your " it doesnt do 5.1" post rather than the one I have quoted above.
#26
what Courier do dell use for these?
#27
These are good speakers (imo) but I feel I should mention a few points...

The volume at the lower rang of the dial is so low you don't actually hear anything until you're just past quarter of the way (that's with the PC volume set at maximum).
Not a real problem but worth mentioning I think.

There is a very slight hum (coming from the sub) it's so slight that I don't notice/hear it until I switch my very quite PC off.

It's handy having the headphone jack on the wired remote but one thing to mention is that the volume control has no effect on the headphone output so you'd need to use the master volume control on your computer.
Got mine back in May and all in all I'm very happy with them.

I have these speakers and they are awesome, good sound, and for less than £40 its a bargain! Definitely recommend them!

Your writing is an eyesore, you might want to learn to use a comma properly

When you say quite short, do you mean quite short 2m or quite short 5m??

Looks like they are doing a refresh on the X-x30 range as well, here's the Play link

not sure what connectors the popcorn has but if it is optical you can buy convertors, but I am not sure how good these are.

I called you a muppet for saying that its not 5.1, now you are saying that it is 5.1 just not very good. Perhaps if you learned the difference between stating an opinion on the functions/features of a product as opposed to the perceived quality then I wouldn't have need to call you a muppet. Until such a time ( and until you learn how to use commas in the correct context ) I shall continue with my tone.

As for the product itself, yes, the bass doesnt seem to be in proportion to the rest of the speakers towards the lower end of the dynamic range, however, for a PC or second room games/tv set up, I find this system to be fine. Its not going to be any use for a large living room but then, if you think that spending 40 odd pounds for a living room 5.1 solution is a good idea then perhaps this is the sort of sound that you are looking for.
