The X-540 speakers use FDD2 (Frequency Directed Dual Driver) technology to produce a uniform soundfield anywhere in the room. Immerse yourself in the game using the selectable matrix mode, which automatically creates 5.1 surround sound from common 2-channel stereo sources. The compact satellites are wall-mountable, and a special clip lets you place the center channel speaker on top of most flat-panel monitors to reduce desktop clutter. Use the wired control center to control volume and bass levels or connect headphones to enjoy your games and music privately.

I've been using a set of these for the last 2 years (bought from Amazon for £48.99), and while i'm no audiophile (only using them with the onboard 5.1 sound chip) they've served me very well.

In all this time i'm surprised this model hasn't been rendered obsolete - I suppose that is a testiment to their success.

Good price.

:edit:

One thing worth mentioning, you'll probably need phono extension leads for the rear left & right speakers as the included cables are not very long.
I just got a twin phono extension & seperated the left & right cables; ~£2 on ebay (5m gold->270600828234->£1.69)

Got mine last month. Like TJJ using them with PC and they're very good. You will need cable extension unless you're in a small room. Paid 44.95 for mine. Hot.

No, just 1 headphone jack on the cabled volume control remote. (which overrides the speakers)

The one complaint some people make about these speakers is that they emphasise bass a little too much.
So I guess they should suite you down to the ground :)

Unfortunately too many people complain if I crank the volume up high on mine :(

You wont find better for this price. The Z-10's are much better but a lot more cash.

You could..... but you'd obviously only get 2.0 sound matrix'ed up to 5.1.
These are PC speakers, they aren't intended to be used as a home theatre system.

- 3x3.5mm stereo jacks connect your PC sound card to the sub-woofer base unit.
- The sub-woofer is then connected to the 5 satellite speakers via 5xRCA cables.
- The cabled remote has a stereo 3.5mm socket on it (intended for headphones), volume control dial, bass control dial, power button and matrix button; it is permanently connected to the sub-woofer base unit.

When enabled, matrix mode spreads a 2.0 signal across the full 5.1 speaker set.

No. The PS3 only supports digital 5.1 sound through HDMI or optical out.

These speakers accept 5.1 analogue sound through 3x3.5mm phono - as is commonly found on PC sound cards & motherboards.
