40 watts output power.

I have these speakers and I paid £45 for them, the sound quality is amazing! They also have a wired remote for controlling bass level and volume.

The other Logitech speakers listed today are also good, but if you have a little bit more to spend, I would recommend these!

You have to use the 10% discount code to get it for this price :) they're £50 on amazon.

The X540's aren't very good at all - the Z4's sound better imo.

Great speakers and a great bargain. Shame these aren't remote controlled though - it's a pain having to walk across the room to adjust the volume/bass.
#11
I can vouch for these too. I paid £55 for these from PCWorld a few months back. They are getting harder to get hold of now. So at £35 they are a steal!

This may prove interesting to some, while these are 40watts they have a range of 35Hz-20KHz Frequency response.

The cheaper Logitech X-230 might be a lesser 32watts but has a range of 40Hz-20KHz Frequency response.

cheers op. Not sure between these or the JBL Creature 2. Those are £60 (£54 after discount code). Anyone got any ideas?
#16
Can you wall mount them? And how long is the remote cable?
1 Like #17
Yes they are wall mountable, i would guess that the cable is a meter or so long.

I've bought these speakers a year or so ago and chose them over the JBL Creature 2.

You get rich thumping bass and while they lack a little middle you have to listen really hard to notice.
If they broke i wouldn't hesitate to buy some more, I paid £65 for mine and they were worth every penny!

For the price they are quite simply awesome.

Have these got optical??

I also can vouch for these speakers as i bought a set a couple of moths ago. I chose them over the x-230 because:
1 - They are of a higher wattage
2 - There are three drivers per satellite
3 - The bass can be turned down all the way so that it is off
4 - Each satellite connects to the sub with it's own, detachable cable (important for routing the cables through my desk).
5 - The x-230 looks a bit pants

I also chose not to get the JBL Creature II because I personally think the design is too over the top and it will probably get quite dusty.

However, there are a few cons:
1 - The small satellites mean that there is a small gap in the mid range. Not a problem with my hip-hop/R&B collection, but it does show with songs that are mainly instrumental or vocal. (Radiohead seems to sound empty in the mids)
2 - The bass is way too overpowering (which may be a good thing). It is fine for R&B when it is set at it's default setting, but for Coldplay and the likes it needs to be turned down (and it can be turned off).

If anyone has any questions about them, feel free to ask! heat added

HI Mistical99,

how long are the cables from the sattelites to the subwoofer? I reserved one for collection tomorrow but really need very long cables - probably about 6-7 metres. are the calbes moulded to the sub?

cheers for yer help

Unfortunately, the cables from the satellites to the sub are only 180cm long. However, they use standard RCA jacks to connect to the sub, so you could buy a couple of extensions leads, like the ones found at Play.com for £2.48

And obviously, this implies that they are not 'moulded to the sub' as you asked.

I had the jbl creature 2, but they broke and i replaced them with these.

Not much of an audiophile but was very happy with both sets of speakers. However, the jbl creatures did break but i had them for a good while before they did.
#25
Thanks for the info
How many inputs can you put into it?
#26
There are 2 inputs, one on the sub and one in the front of the remote control.

Maybe I'm being stupid but you are confirming that these have a wider ( in this case a lower bass ) frequency response range to the X-230s?

Hi there managed to Reserve these for collection from Slough, just wondering does anyone know how these compare to the Logitech X-240's not the X-230's. Thanks.

Just went and got them... girl on the till tried to charge me £80 for it though, despite giving her my reservation code. Had to get a manager over to give me them at the right price - he done it no problem. Not allowed them till my 24th :gift: next Sunday though..och.

For weeks now i've been pondering over whether to get these, the Z2300's (£95) or the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks II (£91). In the end I decided to go with these not because its a great price for such speakers, but because they can even compare to speaker sets twice+ as expensive. Granted the Z2300's have 'oomph' in excess, but my office is small and such power would be wasted.

Pretty much every 'real' review out there rate these things very highly - great sound, louder than most will need, and good bass from the sub.

The best 2.1 speaker system out there with regards to price:quality.

bought a set last year, sold it on a few days later..........

v. nice looking, and remote is great, but the sound was terrible, VERY BOOMY at all times,

cant understand why people rate this system at all, Im a big fan of Logi.s products ( best mice + keyboards you can get ) but their speakers are just too boomy

u can turn down the bass, but unless you turn it right off, you will just get BOOM BOOM from it

ONE NOTE BASS is what this will give you

much better off to use a better quality 2.0 system, then these cheap 2.1 systems , unless of course u like one note bass

defo the worst sounding speakers Ive tried, not a patch on the likes of Jbl , Creative , even Altec stuff is much better

That's a wee bit harsh unless you have only tried top solutions.

I have to confess that when I first plugged them in, I wasn't that impressed. I thought that the bass was a bit wooly and mid-range (particularly vocals) sounded thin and distant.

However...

I notched the bass back slightly from its default position, used some eq to reduce the gain on the lowest and highest frequencies (I used 'lounge' setting on windows media player to find what I thought was the most neutral balance) and quite frankly I was very impressed.

I am a fussy listener, I've been through the nacamichi stage, the CD vs vinyl debate (yes I'm that old) and spent all my grant money on HB1's & mission amps years ago. I always felt that the low-mid rnage hi-fi stuff such as that was great because a huge amount of money would have to be spent for very little gain once in a cerrtain range. When I consider the sound that can be achieved using a little tweaking from this £36 speaker & amp combination, I find it hard to comprehend that any other 'new' ( not second hand or stolen :| ) solution could come close.

I respect for your comments, it is good to see other viewpoints, although I do feel you are being a little unfair & must bear in mind how much these can be bought for rather than the RRP and you should compare these against others at his price.

Kudos to OP & to you.

Voted hot.
I bought these about a month ago at £40. I was initially very disappointed with the sound. Bass was muffled and the main speakers very tinny and not much volume. My computer had on board sound so I decided to buy a sound card.
I went for a refurbished Soundblaster Audigy 7.1 (£12 from eBay)
Wow! what a difference that made. I'm absolutely delighted with the sound I'm getting now. Overall a very rich tone and good bass. Also the remote is excellent, nice to have the controls to hand.
Fantastic speakers for £36.

hmmm, interesting comments.

I did use them with a creative soundcard, the problem was the 1 note bass , it really was a just a 1 note bass,

I found the bass completely ruined the sound,

whilst they are cheap, I dont think theyre good value, as the sound isnt good

Ive tried a lot of pc speakers, as very hard to find something decent

the best Ive had were Mission FS1 , a 2.1 setup using NXT panels, and good quality sub with bass notes balanced , not boomy, more like hi fi

currently I use a set of TDK XA-60 speakers, 2.1 again, nxt panels, but much smaller than the Mission, but again, very decent sound

the TDK are cheap too , around £ 25 , and trust me, they are far far better in sound quality than the Z4s

so good sound at good prices can be found, I was very suprised that Logitech put their name to such boomy speakers, usually their products are best in class, but their speakers are bottom of class

To me the bass is good but that's purely subjective. Sounds like you have a really good ear for music and can probably pick out more than I can. I have a friend who plays the bass guitar. He hears all kinds of stuff in music that I just don't register. You would get on like a house on fire.

rep added for you my friend, for a clear and articulate standpoint, although I still feel you are being a bit harsh. However tastes do vary - otherwise we'd all be driving the same car - like Tom Criuse in minority report...:?

These are good for the average person and not those who are audiophiles. I like my sound quality and love my Z3 and i presume the Z4's improve on this. Im happy :) I admit the bass is strong and disturbs others and the bass only struggles when you pump the volume near max, but at lower volumes the bass is fine.

AMAZINGLY, these things have jumped up to £74.99 at Comet. Still £39.99 at PCWorld or just under £45 on Amazon.
