One of my best ever purchases, enough said.

Got these the other week for quite a bit more than this and they are spot on!
A good buy

They fixed the fuse issues and popping with these?
#7
excellent product, managed to get one of these from logitech for £140

Awesome speakers, got my set about 5-6 years ago and still sound amazing, great speakers built to last, Xbox 360 PC and Bluray Player sound amazing, enough Bass to shake the foundations of the house lol

Excellent speakers. A lot of money a for a speaker set but they are good value at this price.

im guessing no.

they really need an update on these, the z906 seems to be badly reviewed most places :/

one optical is not good enough, and still £200 all these years later with no updates is a but well.. rubbish.

Great price. I was going to get these a couple of years ago. Can't believe I ever had £200+ to spend on speakers - definitely don't now :(

These are excellent speakers i have my pc and 360 setup with them, as for the fuses blowing that only occurs if you turn it up too loud which is totally unnecessary. the volume has 20 blocks to it each block is split in 2 so a normal volume level would be only 2 and a half blocks if you take it to 4 its really immersive and loud. the sub and surround volume should be left in the middle, the block will turn into a diamond to show you have it set at the default perfect level

it's your own fault if the fuse blows it never ever needs to be loud enough to cause it.

These are amazing speakers. BUT! Discontinued (hence the price). The problem is, the replacement model logitech launched isn't as good...

So, grab them while you can!

The fuses did actualy blow on powerup due to the surge, Logitech told me this had been fixed when they replaced my original speakers, when the pod/volume died. I've not had a fuse blow on these new speakers.

I have these; the sound quality is amazing! They are a steal at £199 - I suspect these will expire pretty quick!

Seen them cheaper than this & I also have them with a £120 sound card & have to say they are good, but not worth the money :-/
#18
good speakers, had to replace the fuse once but that's over about 4 years ago and still going strong.

That stops me wasting £200, thanks!

Fantastic speakers, bass will knock you down, and sound quality is immense. Great price.
#21
can these be used with a tv or just a pc ?
#22
I have to say, these are great speakers but they are so old and have been overpriced for a very long time. Does anyone have more of an expert opinion?
#23
Good speakers, and the fact that they come with a control unit means you don't need a seperate receiver if you're using them for your TV and stuff.

Pound for pound, I don't think these are better than spending £150 on a receiver and getting a set of Wharfedal Diamond 9.0s and the SWF150, but they are cheaper.
#24
I have these speakers. For what they are, they're really good. However was at my dad's listening to some spare hi-fi monitor speakers worth about £100, he had connected to a cheap Sony amp...It did sort of sound better than these.

The base of these speakers is very boomy.

I have the previous version of these on my PC. The subwoofer is the size of a small family hatchback car and the bass will knock your house down unless you have strong foundations. Also the volume goes up to about eleventy billion.

Bloody brilliant!
#26
if these are the same as the ones i bought (years ago) which i think they are (look identical and are logitech), make sure you dont have electronics within 60cm of the sub, the magnet in it is massive and not shielded (the instructions warn you about this).

can be a problem if you are intending to have close to your hardware (it deformed my old crt, seriously this thing is powerful)
#27
I had these many moons ago and the wireless version Z 5450 i think they where,,

i paid £199 back then and we are talking 5 years ago!!! these are awesome!

typical logtech thou, never really budging on price, at £149 i think they would be a bargain but at this price i would consider a separate amp and speakers even if its slightly more,

Seriously. I've had these up so loud I could barely take it and they've performed beautifully. I've only had one fuse blow in over 3 years and that wasn't due to volume. Simple to switch fuses if one does blow, though.

Best speakers I've owned and sad to hear they've discontinued them! Let's hope mine don't die now! :P

I paid just less than £150 on ebuyer for these about four years ago and have been well worth that money. Not sure I'd be wanting to go over that for them though... plenty of competition once you hit the £200+ mark.

A couple of questions to answer from before:

Can it work on your TV? Yes... I have mine hooked up via optical to my TV and that's all it needs. That also answers the statement about it being rubbish for having only one optical input... do you really need any more than that? Hooked up via the TV it plays anything the TV has running through it... whether it be the Xbox, blu-ray, Sky etc. Brilliant.

Have they fixed the fuse issue? No idea... it was a problem I read about when I bought them and it concerned me enough to get a spare fuse for it, just in case. However, in the four years I've had them I've never experienced the problem with the fuse blowing. I think what someone else said was spot on - if you ever turn it up to a volume where the fuse is likely to blow then you should probably be arrested for causing physical pain to your neighbours. Mine never get turned up past about 1/4 power and that's too sodding loud by far.

The bass speaker is HUGE and can be used as a table, it's that bloody big. It's also massively powerful, kicks out a ton of bass.

The satellites are cabled, which is a pain, but when we had the lounge remodelled, I made sure the cabling was all under the carpet instead. Much tidier.

The downside for me is the power and balance of the satellites. They're good, but in combo with my TV it can sometimes be a bit awkward to get the balance right between background noise and centre speaker volume for voices.

Overall though, a super set of speakers to give you a budget surround sound kit for your lounge. I've never once plugged them into a PC, that's serious overkill!

Wonderful speakers and I never had a fuse problem either. Gave them to my son for his bedroom when I upgraded by surround sound system for the TV.

That's the only problem with these - they are a dead end - you can't upgrade them or improve a part of the unit, you have to start again from scratch with amp and speakers. I did because I got fed up never hearing DTS-HD off my Blurays. The Logitechs do DTS but if you feed them DTS-HD it just comes out as Dolby. Though very good Dolby, I have to say.

Well spotted.

Is it not better to buy an all in one 5.1 surround system that includes an amp? Heat added for price though.
#33
I've had these a few years, and I have to say they are absolutely fantastic.
Never had a problem with the fuses or the large magnet in the sub interfering with any other equipment.
Will say that they only have one optical input, which is a bit of a pain.

No, it's better to buy an AV receiver and a decent speaker package if you have lots of devices and want to connect everything to the receiver. You then benefit from HDMI swiching etc. All-in-one systems usually have very limited connectivity.
#35
Hopefully we see the follow up to this that's just as good/better soon & that in turn forces down the price - it's held it's £200+ price tag for quite a while now; hearing that some of you got it for sub£200 several YEARS ago is quite a shock!
#36
Had mine for about 5 years. Even though I keep the volume to about 3/10 I had a fuse blow on me last year. Simple and cheap to replace the fuse though.

Excellent speakers, well worth £200
#37
Could any audiophiles comment on how these would compare to an all in one budget AV receiver & 5.1 channel system?

For example the ONKYO HT-S3305

which can be had for only a little bit more.

It would be for a second smallish living room/home cinema, connected to HTPC & PS3.

Sub is passive on the Onkyo system, will this have much impact?

Looking for some cheapish speakers to work with xbox 360 and sky HD, under £100 perferably....they dont have to be amazing just better than the dreadful speakers on my current HDTV, and before anyone says it yes I have been searching around myself just basically looking for someone who has more knowledge on speakers than meself.

Bit of an odd question I know, but how configurable is the bass? Is it possible to turn it down a bit if required? I've had some logitech speakers before and the bass even when switched completely off on the remote is pretty hefty.....

Bought these maybe two years back for about £250, and had them in my lounge connected to htpc/ps3/xbox360 using an optical splitter - they sound fantastic, especially for the money. Since upgraded to an Onkyo 608 and Q Acoustic floorstanders, centre and sub, which cost about a grand all in. Forgetting about the extra functionality of a separate AV receiver over the Z5500, I can't say that - in my mind - my new setup sounds 4 x better.

If you wanted to, you can turn the sub all the way down, thus having no bass.
