I've previously listed this at an higher price and I thought it was cheap then! The deal since expired. But now it's at £49.93. I bought one for my fella and as it runs on Windows it can take most maps. My friend put Tom Tom Europe on it as we were going to France (using a 2gb memory card, it comes with a 512) This is a GREAT sat nav 4 the money. Locks on quickly, battery isn't too bad after a few charges. Doesn't come with a mains charger but I already had a 5v one which you can pick up cheaply anywhere now.

Fast delivery too from MISCO. Delivery is a few quid extra, but offset this with Quidco.

Ebuyer also sell a GPS device for about the same price so check that out. Dunno if its any better than this.

Also, people with GPS devices should consider contributing data to www.openstreetmap.org a project to make a public domain map which is more accurate than Tomtom Google Maps etc

Do they charge for delivery?

I would go for the Ebuyer Navigo - £55 delivered and you can add tomTom or IGO8 etc WITHOUT hacking the operating system - so no 'expertise' needed.

Easy to add TomTom to this...
#5
Could you not run Tom Tom or IGO8 on this without hacking it, as I though these ran from the SD card?

Sounds a far better option to me too. Rep added

This unit does not need hacked. All you have to do is downlaod the maps and stick them on an SD card.

Search previous posts for instructions.

It was precisely that telling me it needs considerably more than you say!
OK not exactly major hacking, but the detailed posting by "Raccoon" strikes me as far clearer advice

I can't find the post where you can put TomTom on without hacking - I can find the method with hacking - which previous post shows a non-hack TomTom version please?

I still think this is HOT, but I know you can use the navigo as a TomTom without hacking and that tips it for me - unless you can point me to the post you refer to. Also the navigo comes with a 1GB card - larger than this device and with free postage it is almost exactly the same price.

Thanks.

You can now run TomTom7 on the navigo, what operating system is on this one?

That is what I was saying - you can run TomTom on BOTH - BUT the navigo does NOT need to be 'hacked'. Both run the same operating system. Win CE5

I agree, the navigo is an excellent piece of kit for a very low price. You can also add MioMap btw

Handy sound controls on the face of this one. Looks identical to the Navigo in many ways so I'd assume the SD card layout is the same, and therefore 'modifying' the system software would be unnecessary to run other GPS programs. ie this wouldn't need 'hacking' either.

To me this is a absolutely cracking deal!!

Sorry - doesn't follow. The navigo can run TomTom etc without being hacked - other similar systems generally can't. I don't think you can tell just because it looks similar. That is why the Medion's won't run TomTom unless they are hacked - despite being similar (screen size, operating system etc).

It says in the op there is a charge, the cheapest option is £3.99.

I bought this one on Thursday, got it Friday, delivered after specified time so got my £9.99 back for delivery, sold my old Garmin i3 for £30 so this only cost me £39.99 :)
Anyway, I stuck Tomtom 7 on it on Friday night, took less than an hour, no hacking of the unit required. Tested it out on Saturday going to a house in Luton and it performed great, very happy with it.

No use for Tomtom users really.

Using OSM maps with TomToms

TomTom's mapping format is a closely guarded secret, both for copy protection and because if you knew how they stored the maps, they would be giving away a lot of their navigation secrets. As a result there is no software to allow OSM mapping to be converted to the format the TomTom app uses, and unlikely to be any unless TomTom themselves make it.

It is also a LONG way from usable. Whole streets and areas are missing in my City, in some areas it is main roads only :-(

Has anyone tried putting other maps on this unit?...
...it uses the same operating system (Win CE.NET 5.0) as the Navigo & people have put Tom Tom on that with no problem.

ordered monday evening, delivered today, very impressed at the speed and haven't even updated or stuck tomtom on yet. for £50 it is a total bargain

So is it just a case of putting Tom Tom on the SD card & off you go or is there hacking involved?

Cheers.

Yes just put files on SD card and it should work.

Thanks for that.

The only thing with the bargain sat nav's is that the windscreen mounts are a bit big & industrial looking...I'm sure they don't need to be that big & bulky.

Cheers.
