Not yet. I believe the Fellowship Blu-ray will be out later this year, maybe next year, and only the theatrical version. I'll wait for the extended version.

This is a good buy nevertheless.

blurays are coming.

ive never seen these films even though i owned them on 2 disc, 4 disc and 5 disc editions. well i tried to watch the first one but fell asleep (it was an xmas day).

i was thinking of getting the 12 disc set but now blurays are coming im holding out for them. should get all of the 4 disc stuff on 2 discs.

Thats SOOO frustrating, once you've seen the extended versions there's no going back, seeing the std ones again is like watching a movie that has been cut for TV. I will join you in the wait!

The 12 disk set are the extended editions, while this deal is a good price personally I would get the extended ones as they are much better versions of already great films. Once you watch the extended you wont ever want to watch the shorter versions again.

PS - Dont know what the extras are like on the 6 disk but on the extended versions they are some of the best extras ever seen on DVD IMO.

Not sure what you mean, the versions in the 6 dvd boxset have the cinema versions of the films. The 12 disk version has the extended editions of the films which contain, IMO, important scenes that had to be removed to keep the running time down to stop peeps bum's going numb. The extended films are each spread over two disks hence 12 disks.

As for the extras, a chick friend of mine who isnt a LOTR fan was riveted watching the extras as they are absolutely obsorbing seeing how something of this scale was put together. Up to you but not watching them is really missing out!
