Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Based on J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is an epic adventure of good against evil, the power of friendship and individual courage. The saga centers around an unassuming Hobbit named Frodo Baggins who inherits a Ring that would give a dark and powerful lord the power to enslave the world. With a loyal fellowship of elves, dwarves, men and a wizard, Frodo embarks on a heroic quest to destroy the One Ring and pave the way for the emergence of mankind.

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Frodo Baggins and the Fellowship continue their quest to destroy the One Ring and stand against the evil of the dark lord Sauron. The Fellowship has divided and now find themselves taking different paths to defeating Sauron and his allies. Their destinies now lie at two towers - Orthanc Tower in Isengard, where the corrupted wizard Saruman waits and Sauron's fortress at Baraddur, deep within the dark lands of Mordor.

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The final battle for Middle-earth begins. Frodo and Sam, led by Gollum, continue their dangerous mission toward the fires of Mount Doom in order to destroy the One Ring. Aragorn struggles to fulfill his legacy as he leads his outnumbered followers against the growing power of the Dark Lord Sauron, so that the Ring-bearer may complete his quest.

Not sure why, but this set will contain previews of the extended versions.

LOL how many versions are there of the DVD box sets? I wouldn't hold my breath on waiting for the 'definative' edition in my opinion this will just be another way of milking the franchise... and the fans

Having only watched the first one and finding it far too long - I'm up for this version too!
#9
ever watch normal version up-scaled? outstanding I thought. will still buy blu-ray version but will wait till extended version
#10
I'd buy any version with the stupid trees cut out.
#11
i smell the odour of unfaithfulness. These films are the greatest films ever made of the greatest book ever written. The longer the film the better. in the extended dvd of fellowship, it is stated that the uncut fellowship if 4.5 hours long meaning that the extended version is still an hour short. "stupid trees"? Stupid sun reader and media muffin i think

Amen to that!

The extended versions will probably be held back until close to the release of 'The Hobbit'. I'm not saying that it makes sense, just that this is the way it usually goes.
#14
No wonder people use peer 2 peer. Just release the full version and stop ripping us off
#15
I love lord of the rings, a lot, but I prefer the cinema version. I'll vote hot, though it's a bit early to tell if this is a bargain.

2012 till extended version is out for anyone interested.
#16
cold because they will release the extended versions a few months later.
#17
On reflection I prefer the theatrical too as long as they lavish some attention on a superb transfer - but it is too early to say if this is hot. There will be a huge amount of attention on this so it may be a loss leader..
