Yeah used the wrong picture, I have actually now deleted the heroes image from photobucket & linked the LOTR image instead but it seems to take while for the change to actually appear.

Heat added for the price.

But I just noticed that this is not the extended edition so I will pass and wait for the proper Extended edition bluray release.

I already made that mistake with the DVDs and end up having the normal and extended edition so no thanks this time.
#7
thanks for posting this:)
#8
will also wait for extended edition but still a good price so will vote hot

eek! Amazon.com have this comment:

The Lord of the Rings (Extended Editions)" is scheduled to be released on Blu-ray in 2011 or 2012.

I think for £40 i might go for this and then get the extended ones later... palm the old ones off on to ebay or give them to a friend!

Thanks poster!

oooh.... quidco too!
#10
I'll download the BR rips of these ones to tide me over and then buy the EE's.

No way they are getting me to double dip like I did the DVDs!
#11
Good price for the blus, but as said before I wont be DD again!
#12
This is a great price and I'd buy them if it wasn't for the fact that it's already known the extended editions will be getting a release in the not too distant future. It really is a big con and shouldn't be allowed. They should both be released now so that people have a choice and a lower price point if they're not fussed about the extended editions.

They are awesome
#14
What's the difference with the extended editions? Do you really get more out of the films?
#15
I remember posting a pre-order of this before, people voted it stone cold dead as they said they was getting ripped of as another set will come out after.

What a very strange site this is when now they start to vote it a hot deal.

i agree... i have them:whistling:
#17
I'm with the majority. Voting hot on the price, but won't be purchasing as I can wait for the extended editions. Already have all 3 versions of the DVD trilogy, can't afford that again!

Yes a lot more
#19
I think that there is a general statement by genuine fans who do not want to double dip, hence voting cold as well as giving one star reviews on Amazon, etc. The sooner film and tv companies realise we dont want to be ripped off by this, the sooner customers get what they want, and hitting in the pocket is the only way.

I'm not usually fussed about extented editions, but after watching the LOTR extended films I found the theatre releases a little bit boring because of the missing parts.

So I will definately be waiting for the extended versions. :)
#21
Good price thanks! couple of questions hope somebody can answer please :)

Firstly, Do blockbuster take payment straight away? funds abit tight but maybe this deal wont be round come payday :/

Also I seen the HD rips i got a sample but just looked more like dvd version upscaled to 720p/1080i anybody ideas if these are re-enhanced for blu-ray?

Cheers - however, I've already downl... er... I mean bought this ;-)
#23
Definitely need the extended version, they're so jammy ! The amount of LOTR versions they released is crazy, now its finally coming out on blu ray it should only be the extended version.
#24
It may be the cheapest place, but look at spiderman 3 film boxset, that was on here for under £18 so still alot for the cut versions.
I'll Wait, and it wont take till 2012 for extended I promise that, 6-12 months best guess once these sales start to dry up.
#25
Wait for the Extended Editions due next year.
#26
I have voted cold purely because the studios are taking us consumers for mugs. I too bought all the double disc editions of the DVD to then buy all the extended versions too. Fair enough first time they had to get the discs edited but this time there is no excuse.

The price is good in comparison to competition but for the standard cut it still seems a little expensive.

Rep given to poster to show appreciation for the time and effort in posting :), cold for the deal.
#27
i,ll wait for extended thanx anyway
#28
voted cold for being a rip-off. Waiting for extended
#29
The extended version to me are the real versions, would not want to watch the " Normal version" again , I find the quality was excellent upscaled in my HDDVD player, not tried my PS3 yet, but I was blown away with the upscaled quality, so happy with my 4 disks extended version at the mo.
#30
Cant believe the price for 3 standard editions movies on blu ray...epic movies but no way am shelling out this much cash for just 3 movies. My special editions boxsets will tide me over until this is reasonably priced, whenever that is!
#31
I can't believe they're even bothering to release the non extended versions!!! The space afforded to them by bluray it's criminal, blatent profiteering.
#32
Remember when BluRay was touted as being able to use branching technology so that you could start watching one edition of a film, but press a button and it would seamlessly change over to an extended version on the fly. This would be amazing if the studios weren't such penny pinching b*stards and look to con as much money out of the consumer as possible. Ahh well, guess I'll be waiting until next year at least for the definitive version.
#33
This might br the cheapest price available now but these discs are going to bomb because nobody wants the theatrical releases on Blu-Ray. Give it a month and you'll be able to pick this box set up for £20 or less.
#34
Yes, the difference is quite substantial and its honestly worth waiting for the EEs.
Unless of course you really WANT the theatrical rush... but you will be missing out on quite a bit extra!
Mega fail post there . Ahem.
#35
Voted Cold as the Extended Editions are the ones to wait for as these have loads of good stuff missing, about 30 minutes per film and it's all good stuff.

The price on these will colapse when no one buys them as they wait for the Extended versions.
Just look at the 2,155 of One star reviews that people have given this version on Amazon.com.
#36
First off, I agree, the Extended editions probably are worth a look over the theatrical cuts. I haven't seen them, but I hear good things. And I will wait for those BR editions as I love BR HD. But secondly, there will be 2 types of people, those who like the theatricals and those who like the extended editions. That's the reason for 2 versions of each film going into the shops. So, why all the talk of studios screwing people over? I don't get it. If you don't like something don't buy it! It really is that simple. Of course, if the theatrical didn't get released at all, people would complain about that too. :whistling:
#37
Might be the best price around, but there is absolutely no point in buying this release in my opinion.

The only reason why there is a Theatrical cut of these films was because the studio asked the director to do it as they thought that people were not willing to sit through a 3 hour film, +adverts +trailers, also the shorter the film the more showings they can have during each day. Everyone who has seen both versions agree that there is no need for the Theatrical cuts, except for greed.

When they came out on DVD there was a short 3 month gap and then the Extended versions were released, as both versions are now available there is no reason why both versions could not of been put on the same Blu-Ray disc similar to how Terminator 2 has 3 versions on the same Blu-Ray disc through seemless branching.

I'll download the BR rips

Forgive me but what's BR?

BR = Blu-Ray

The reason multiplicity of choices exist is to exploit people's ignorance-stubborness and not so much because people's opinions are different. When you buy a car, should there be brakes that won't work 100%? Not when there are laws preventing blantant crookedness, otherwise, there will be cars with less than 100% braking capability and we are not talking about super-duper brakes/braking-systems, we are talking about performing a specific task. Should a real [and not an airy-fairy] "extended edition" exists, why turn-on greed/choices instead of love. Utility and not frivolity. Frivolity is what gives "multiplicity of choices". When you are paid to do a job, just because the other person gets more for the same, should/would you do less? Of course and this is where greed-fear enters the fray.

In reality, there should be no difference in, say, a wage for doing the same job but the fact that it exists doesn’t mean one should, "To hell with them, I'm slowing down". Existence is about progress/evolution and evolution is essentially a behaviourial/self/individual issue, and not an "others" issue. When one [self] is at peace, "others" could be in turmoil and still it has no bearing on one self whilst should one be in conflict, what others do will not resolve that internal conflict permanently. All know these realities but few, when it comes to the crunch/moment, bother to act upon these realities but preferring to live other peoples' lives. Multiplicity of choices is for baiting one's behaviour/morality/reality, and not so much who the devil/other is or what the devil-is/others-are doing.

Within reality, humans cannot be taught, we have to learn whereas within the realm of relativity, we are constantly being taught lessons which we won't/refused-to learn and will actually go against our own grain/progress just to prove a point [of stupidity-dumbness]. When an opportunity to learn is missed, it turns into the opportunity to be addicted and most are addicted by a myriad of behaviourial "inconsistenceis". To become guilty which is merely anger at some other moment. That is what "being taught a lesson" means in reality - to be made either a worshipper or a saviour thereby distracting one from the addiction sub/supra consciously under consideration, be it buying, deceiving, arguing, exposing/sparkling, and so forth. Greed-fear will always be so [and one is the only limit to the other] but we don't have to be [thus baited/influenced].
