The Lord of the Rings Trilogy tells the story of Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), a hobbit who battles against the Dark Lord Sauron to save his world, Middle-earth, from the grip of evil. In the films, Frodo and his fellowship of friends and allies embark on a desperate journey to rid Middle-earth of the source of Sauron's greatest strength, the One Ring - a ring that has the power to enslave the inhabitants of Middle-earth. The trilogy tells tales of extraordinary adventures across the treacherous landscape of Middle-earth and reveals how the power of friendship, love and courage can hold the forces of darkness at bay. Beside Wood, the films star Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, featuring Sean Bean, and Ian Holm, with Andy Serkis as Gollum. The films also star Marton Csokas, Craig Parker and Lawrence Makaoare.

Great price.

Just to let everyone know, rumours are about that there could be a all-we've-been-waiting-for Blu-ray extended edition release this year.

Yeah, think you're right - personally I actually prefer these - find the extended ones just a little too long (sure I'm in the minority though!)

Great films and great price, but I'll wait for the extended editions instead.

Picture quality isn't supposed to be that impressive as far as blu-rays go.
#13
Never seen these films, might splash out now.

That's what I'm waiting for! Was really disappointed when the Blu-ray release turned out to be just the theatrical cuts. A great feature to have would be the Extended editions with the option to just watch the theatrical versions - it would be easy enough to just skip the extra scenes during playback, I know it's possible with DVDs.

This is taken from TheDigitalBits website, who I believe started this new.

What's more, our sources are NOW telling us that WHV (and their now in-house New Line label) is ALSO planning to release Peter Jackson's long-awaited The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Extended Editions on Blu-ray sometime this year. No kidding. We suspect that, now that The Hobbit films are finally about to begin filming, the studio is eager to get more product on store shelves to keep the franchise fresh in the minds of fans. The Extended Rings films on BD are the obvious choice for this year. Farther down the line, of course, there will be the obvious Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D versions of The Hobbit films, and sooner or later an "ultimate" box set of all the films with all new extras custom created by Jackson. Anyway, we're told to expect some kind of official news from the studio on their extensive plans on this title in the next several weeks.

It's nowhere near being the best of what bluray has to offer but it's still sharp and detailed. FOTW is average in terms of picture and then the other two are above average with ROTK being fairly impressive imo.

What is the next cheapest price anyone can find?

The extended is reserved for people that have nothing better to do. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the theatrical cuts. If they were good enough to release in the cinema then they are good enough for me. Even if the extended cuts were better (in terms of flow) it would still be the theatrical blurays that would get the most use, so for me these blurays offer the best value for money.

what is this More Than discount you speak of?

Fab price, but I'm still holding out for the extended edition.

...the argument of the theatrical vs extended cuts continues. Does this really have to happen every time this is posted?

I'm waiting for the shortened versions
#36
When I was at relatives in America for Christmas a couple of years ago a channel there was showing the full trilogy back to back... except what with all the adverts every 10 mins it was on all bloomin day!
#37
Great price for those who are happy with the shorties.

However, I'll be putting this £15 towards getting the EEs a bit earlier. I'll wait until they come down to £40 and with this £15 saving that makes it £25 in my books! Bargain.

All I need is an EE autumn release with a drop in price in December then I'll have a very happy christmas and new year!
#38
£16.85 now as SALETEN voucher is no longer valid
#39
Great price but like everyone else, I ain't interested unless it's the extended versions - which is of course why these are the price they are.
