Another good price from HMV for this award winning movie.

Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson star in Sofia Coppola's award-winning Lost In Translation as two Americans adrift in Tokyo. Bob is a movie star in town to shoot a whiskey commercial, while Charlotte is a young wife tagging along with her workaholic photographer husband (Giovanni Ribisi). Through their respective insomnias, the two cross paths one night in the luxury hotel bar and strike up a surprisingly intimate friendship...

Voted hot as good price for a DVD, but I have to say I saw this and really didn't get it and don't know what all the fuss is about! :whistling:

I want to marry this film and then have babies with it.
#4
one of the worst films i have ever had the displeasure of seeing

2 hours of my life i will never get back
#5
i thought it was great but i guess it's a love it or hate it film.

great price though - voted hot

yep, this seemed pretty pretentious to me. Complete and utter tosh but because it's been acclaimed as a "masterpiece" most people would rather jump on that bandwagon than admit they just didn't get it. If anyone who liked it can explain the appeal of this film to me I'll be impressed.

p.s. please, no-one say anything along the lines of "you either get it or you don't" - I openly admit I that don't, I want to know what it is I'm missing.

p.p.s not voting hot or cold, opinion are like a**eholes and all that...:whistling:

Overated in my opinion -- not funny at all -- but not as bad as broken flowers

There are lots of things I love about this film so I'm afraid I can't explain the entirety of why it appeals to me so much. One of the main things though is the way it encapsulates the feeling of being somewhere so far from home and all alone (e.g. unfamiliar city lights seen through the windows of a taxi) and then finding a connection with somebody amazing. It is a film about travelling (through time as well as physical journeys) and falling in love and being moved by both those things at the same time. It sounds really pretentious, I'm sorry, but travelling and love resonate and this film portrays that.

Sorry this must be one of the unfunniest films I have ever watched. How the Evening Standard can quote it as hysterically funny is beyond me.

If you haven't seen it yet I would suggest watching it on mainstream TV first (I'm sure this was on a few weeks ago). You may feel cheated that you wasted £2.99 and a good 2 hours watching this drivel.

didn't like it either. the portrayal of japanese people as comical and/ or slightly stupid put me right off.

Bargain for those who are still curious about this film.

But i found it dull and overated,

only reason i posted in saying it was a bad film is cause to anyone who hasnt seen it and can see all them comments on the box just warning them not to waste £2.99 on it! If you seen it and liked it then great go for it but if you want some cheap films to buy that you aint seen then i'd be wary of this as it mugged me of 2 hours of my life on the promise of being brilliant and hillarious which it most certainly wasnt!

anyways thats my last post in this topic :) great price if you liked it, if you haven't seen it, i'd watch it before you buy or you might regret it :)

Have to agree with majority, this is a dire film - didn't work for me at all. Good price though if you can stand it.
#14
lol i thought it was just me that didn't understand the point of this film

I really like this film.
It's definitely a 'mood film' - enjoyable to watch on a rainy day. It kind of plays on that melancholy feeling that you sometimes get but quite enjoy having it?

Oh God i've turned into a luvvie!:w00t:

I think you've got it .
I saw this film in Seoul with a Korean girlfriend . I am old, she is young .When we came out of the cinema it was snowing . The film and the time remain in
my mind as something very pleasurable.

You are too harsh (well some of you) - how can you make a mistake at £2.99? OK so you might be able to buy an extra pint of beer - but are you THAT desperate? Anyone who is not sure about this - risk the £2.99, you can always recover that on EBay later.

If you are after an action movie - this is not it. If you are after a movie that explores relationships and does have humorous and touching moments - then this is it.

Superb movie. I think those that will enjoy will already feel somewhat drawn to it......

those then may be interested in wong kar wai films, who many believe are a major source of inspiration for sophia coppola's film, especially 'in the mood for love'.

she even mentioned/thank him in her oscar acceptance speech..

I absolutely adore this film, like somebody else mentioned. You definitely have to be in the mood for this, it's quite bittersweet. The Tokyo backdrop is gorgeous, it inspired me to go and visit two summers ago. From my own observations people who enjoy forumulaic films won't enjoy this, if you have a more open mind towards cinema I think you'll be satisfied.
