My total order came to £19.24 with the cheapest shipping option. Hopefully it will escape customs.

Great price anyway!

Did you opt to pay in £s rather than $s? My total order was $36.47, which using the HMRC rate for January (2.0034) equates to £18.20. Interesting that Amazon charge £1 more to pay them in £s.

It is under the customs limit though, as the price excluding delivery is $29.99, which equates to £14.97 at HMRC's rate.

Got mine for £19.24 as well..... excellent price thanks !!!

Is the customs limit £15?
#5
Also i have never bought anything other than a region 2 dvd how can i be sure it will work?

Customs limit is £18 (on the price excluding delivery).

You would ahve to check whether your DVD player can play region 1 DVDs. There are usually hacks for most DVD players (usually some sort of combination of button presses on the remote control), but I would advise you to check before ordering as if your player is locked to region 2 it won't play this.

A good place to start is here:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=126

The first thread has contained the information I've needed for 3 players. Alternatively you could try ordering a bargain basement R1 or R3 title from CD-WOW et al and see if they play before taking the plunge!

All in all this is a good bargain, I pre-ordered mine from them when it was $38.99, luckily it sneaked through customs so got it for £22 in all, £19's even better!

You are right. Tried to reorder using USD where it would have been around 60p cheaper but the order is already to far gone. Useful to rememeber for future use especially when getting near to the customs limit. Of course at least this guarantees the price in case of interest rate fluctuations before despatched.

Great price, for those that have a V+ box, if you are not aware you can watch the first two Seasons of Lost in High Definition for free!

Notice that Amazon.com do the other two seasons for $32.99 as well, as long as you ship seperately to avoid customs charges this has to be cheaper than buying here.

Looking forward to Season 4 starting the end of this month.....

I was wondering the same myself, I would think shortly after Season 4 starts screening on sky...but who knows.

I thought Amazon US would not post to the UK, when did this change? Or was it a myth? Has anyone successfully ordered something and have it actually arrive.

Amazon US has always (as far I can remember) shipped to the UK - whether goods arrive or not is another matter though!

Ive been ordering books and DVD's from them since 1999.

They wont ship electrical item and certain other things though but DVD's and books are fine.

I'm reasonably sure this is incorrect. The customs threshold is £18 including delivery.

Having been stung for a £13 customs charge for the blu ray bogof deal (being too lazy to go through the convoluted process of getting the money back) I think I'll leave this one. I hope you guys are lucky enough to avoid the charges though.

Hot price if you're lucky enough to avoid customs.

Actually you're wrong, it's been £18 for a number of years now (I know as I've been importing DVDs for quite some time):

http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageImport_ShowContent&id=HMCE_CL_001454&propertyType=document

The reason you got stung was because when Amazon do BOGOF deals they ahve to quote the price of both items (so if you ordered 2 Blu Rays for, say, $30, they would have to quote $60 on the package, hence the customs charge.

You can get this refunded (if this is the case) - Amazon do usually refund this charge, or you can apply to customs themselves for a refund.

I wasn't disputing that the threshold was £18, I know you're correct on that. But you asserted that delivery wasn't included in the calculation when I'm pretty sure it is. If the price of the goods plus the price of delivery is over £18 then you're liable for tax duty.

I'm pretty sure they only factor in the delivery IF the cost of the goods is over £18, then you pay VAT and Postoffice charge on the total amount - I've purchased many a DVD from the US where if you factored in delivery charge it would be over the £18 threshold and never been charged.

I have ordered many items from overseas and never seen the delivery charge included as part of the stated value of the goods on the customs sticker. Had delivery been included, I would have been stung frequently. I think you have just been unlucky.

I've done a bit of checking and it seems you are right. My apologies for needlessly complicating things.

Sorry, having read my post back it did come across as though I was bieng a bit off (and I didn't even read your post properly! In my defence, whenever I post any bargains at Amazon.com I always get people warning people off and telling them they'll get charged customs! Not implying you were doing that, but I've been in a mood all day!

Sorry!
