'Lotus will be conducting straightline testing at Duxford Air Museum tomorrow, open to the public, the best value day out in F1'

It doesn't state which drivers will be there but it will be a great chance to get pretty close to the action without 000's of other people there.

I appreciate that it's too far for some (myself included), but local peeps could pop over maybe (?).

I assume that it's free, certainly there is no extra charge.

Extra info from locals welcome, thanks in advance.

Best

Bill

Edit;

There is a charge of £16.50 for an adult to enter the Air Museum.

The F1 car(s?) will be an added attraction at no extra cost (sorry for any misleading info before I was aware of this)

That's why it's just straightline only.

I stand corrected.
It wont be long before they change the rules again on this matter.

How do they get the car back? do they turn it on a turntable or some kind of garage dolly's?

From their facebook page:

So you've heard we're announcing something exciting tomorrow? We can't say what yet... But it's all happening at our T128's straightline aero test at Duxford, which you should be able to see if you're visiting the museum

LOLOL

good, one, i genuinely did laugh out loud at that one!

I think they might let the driver do a 180 turn, as long as it's slow

(still chuckling)

Not too bad I guess.

Would be an interesting day out for sure.

I'd be interested to hear from anybody that has been before just to confirm that they're not increasing the normal entrance fees

I work just down the road!

I was just about to say, its not free, you baisically have to be visiting the museum and then you would obviously be able to stand and watch the car from the side if you wanted

It's the regular entrance fee for a non air show day. Check here: https://www.maximweb.co.uk/iwmduxford/events.aspx

£16.50

She told me that on the phone.

As someone who followed F1 in a pretty serious way until it decided to adopt the same business plan and workplace policies and antics as professional football, then be prepared to be disappointed of you think you're going to see cars whizzing up and down all day. I assure you you wont.

Agreed but cool and unusual that Mike, Tony and all drivers are there on the same day!

I used to fly a cessna 152, or the skoda of the sky! I flew to Duxford once, and had a look around the museum. There was a landing fee, but we didn't pay anything else, it was about 20 years ago though!

I don't know the policy now.

Great place, well worth a visit anyway and v close to the M11.

I'll take my Vectra, should be faster than the Lotus.....

It's the sound that I like, the V12's were the best . . . . . . happy days (daze?)

They'll all be there because they will be announcing Tony's purchase of Caterham and any possible re-branding that it will involve,.

As if F1 wasn't boring enough, cars driving in a straight line!!! If you want to get up close and watch them speed down a track, go to the Goodwood Festival of Speed
#24
The rumours are saying they're going to be taking over Caterham to produce Team Lotus road/track cars. Might be some good cars on show in addition to the F1 cars (which are still the most attractive on the grid IMO).

Wish I could go as I'm a big Lotus fan, but unfortunately it's too far for me.

They think they can charge for this crap? Am an avid F1 fan but the idea of watching the slowest car on the circuit (with the exception of virgn and hispania) driving in a straight line is not my idea of fun

They're not charging, you div, read the thread. The charge is to get in to the museum where the Lotus team happen to be doing straight line tests. Many teams use Duxford throughout the year for this. It just happens on this occasion it's being publicised because they are having a press conference.

Announcement is likely to be confirmation of buyout of Caterham Cars!
& No 180's at end of striaght, rather a 3-point turn with mechanics pushing.

(Current F1 employee)

Thanks Dave

Inside info is usually the best

I wish that they still had tyre testing, I used to get into the BRDC suite to watch that

as an 'avid F1' fan you'd know only too well that if they painted all the cars the same you wouldn't be able to tell them apart over a short straight-line dash.

If you intend to reply please take time to read what has been said at least twice, your earlier efforts were misinformed if somewhat comical and amusing.

They dont go fast at goodwood m8 as there is only straw bails to stop them.
I have been there the last 2 years.
Go the gp and see what they go like round a corner at 160 mph

I'd say that with only straw bales to save them then the speed they're travelling at is pretty impressive. As a comparison I believe that the hill record at Goodwood was achieved at a higher average speed than they're doing the Monaco grand prix at.

We've all seem them going round sterile, safe corners at 160mph. If you're impressed by that then you'd better get yourself over to watch the bike lads doing the TT, you'll wet yourself.

Did anyone go and was it any good?
