quality of their disks is awful - >50% scratched or unplayable of about 25 disks ive hired from them - total joke - not helped by the nupty subscribers they attract, prefer going to my local bbusters thanks have hired 1000's from them and had just 2 or 3 damaged ones

Conversely, Ive never had a problem with lovefilm and have been with them for 3 years (ish). Not one disc scratched (blu or dvd). Its just luck of the draw mate.

Mugs game this ................. £17+ a month ...... for a few £1 DVD's? SHOCKING and hardly a deal!

Where on earth do you get 3 disks for £16.33? I have 2 disks per month for £3.99 that works out at £2.00 per disk per month where your works out at £5.44 per disk per month! something wrong somewhere.

You're quite right I should have put in Unlimited. Have now changed but its already very chilly

I just feel a little dirty taking out a Lovefilm subscription. The same as I feel when I have finished a Pot Noodle and the empty tin is staring me in the face. I suppose it's because Lovefilm seem to be taking the lion's share of the video rental market in the UK and are hooked into the PS3, all internet TVs etc. I would like to see some more competition to Lovefilm. Nothing against Lovefilm, they do a good job, but, like the banks, they seem focussed on winning new customers only.

I'd like to know where you can get legal newly released DVDs for a quid - I'll cancel my sub. I have only had the odd scratched DVD .

No it's not.

It's for 10 rentals per month where you are allowed 5 at a time. So you basically get 2 groups of rentals each month. Hence it being called the family package.

Unlimited package would be better IMO. You could watch more in a month than the 10 you get with this package.

The misinformation on this site continues to astound me! £1 DVD/blurays lol

Only ever had one bad disc from Lovefilm, they sent a replacement which arrived the next day. Postage each way is always very quick.

Is this a referral link?

I'm not sure about this "deal", but just to defend Lovefilm I have been with them years and never had a scratched or faulty disc.

I've been with lovefilm for 5 years now! I started with the free trials, paid for 2 years, moved house and had another year of trials, now I've been paying over a year. I get the 2 disc unlimited package at the minute, and I receive about 2-4 different films a week. As you can probably work out, that's a lot of films! Out of those discs 3 have been so badly damaged as to be unplayable. That's not a bad ratio. Most discs are in very good condition, some need a wipe but every one except those 3 has played perfectly.

I once went to a job interview with Blockbusters to develop their online services, which I think still still remains as non existent. Well, they did have preliminary plans for setting up a similar online service, for rental and streaming movies, but I didn't hear from them.

Later I discovered that they pulled the plan because... wait for it... they didn't think it would take off, and wished to explore other avenues. I see now they have followed success of Lovefilm by offering online rentals, but are having to play second fiddle.

Lovefilm offer a great service to there customers.

Been using a giftcard my brother gave me witch is free service for 2 months, saved me the cost of 4 brand new games so far.

The sweet spot with lovefilm is a tenner (less if through Tesco).

But sure, pay £17 if you like!

I have used LF for years and just had one dodgy disc. I was on a set number of discs per month so they credited me another rental. Great service. And you can easily end up with a dodgy DVD after getting home from Blockbuster.

If you want to try a competitor then check out Lidl Movies as that is not part of Lovefilm AFAIK unlike Tesco which is run by LF.

I'm a subscriber as well and totally agree. You're very lucky if you manage to watch a film without any problems with the disk.
On the upside, if you report the disk as faulty on their website, they send you out another one (either the same disk or the next one on your rental list) straight away.

I took the £9 for 3 months for the 2 disc unlimited plan that someone posted here just before Christmas. I will cancel after the 3 months, not because of dodgy discs, so far the service and quality of the discs has been fine. I just think that you will quickly watch everything that is really worth watching, there are new films added every week but not that many really good ones. I would prefer to spend my time watching a few really good films rather than average ones every over night. Just my opinion of course.

I predominantly rent bluray and being a newer format, the discs are in a better condition than dvd. That said, I've had 2 or 3 in a year that wouldn't rip but LF have always sent a replacement quickly and it doesn't affect my contract allowance.

The problem here isn't LF, it's the complete numpties who have absolutely no idea how to handle a disc. There is a hole in the middle for a reason. There is no reason whatsoever to touch the disc surface - I can't for the life of me understand why people insisted on mauling disc surfaces. Probably much of it is just pure carelessness. It's not their disc so they don't give a t0ss what happens to it while it's in their posession.

Used Lovefilm for years, never had a bad scratched or unplayable disc and I've had 100's (Only a couple of wrongly sent disc's!) I don't do the regular contract, I do the special sign up offer deals instead they keep sending after a few months of ending the last rental offer. Just finished a 3 months for 1 month deal, 3 discs at a time, paid £15.99 beginning of November and averaged about 6 discs a week. And I've got another 3 for 1 month deal that I must start to use by the middle of March 2011 in hand. Crazy I don't know how they make it pay!

I've been a member for maybe 10 months on and off. Had 1 bad disc in all that time.
