Thanks for the heads up

Playback streams at near DVD quality

The lack of HD is a massive drawback.

Was waiting for this. Now I wonder if I can pay £2 ontop of my free £7.99 a month package and get unlimited streaming...

this is cold. They are basically trying to encourage people to upgrade their package so that they can stream via the PS3.
This in turn enables Lovefilm to decrease their cost base and increase their profitablity even further as they no longer need to stock as many discs or send them out.
I have a 2 disc package for £3.99 but I can't use my PS3 to watch them even though the technology is there?

So a company tries to increase their profitability by providing a service that people want and that makes it cold?

Just signed up through the PS3 for a month trail. Tried I Am Legend and it loaded fast and started playing didn't watch it all the way through. Will try a full film later on when things settle down after everyone trying it out all at the same time and see how it does.

Should be able to, you can easily get films on a computer and as long as you have a subtitle file in the same root as the video file, programs such as media player will display them, so it should be easily possible to stream the information with the video file, say make it an option before you choose to start watching.

wether or not they do it though is another question.........

Almost right. If you stream content via DLNA etc then you're streaming a file, the subtitles have to be encoded into that file. However if you're streaming over a filesystem i.e.Samba, NFS etc you can use subtitle files as the media streamer will look for the file.

Will one be able to stream Blu Rays???
#20
cheers op, was wondering when they were gonna release this

hot omg hot!

This is exactly what I was waiting for with lovefilm, the quality isn't fantastic but perfect when you're feeling impatient.

I wonder if Netflix will ever come to the UK and give us a lot more selection with this service? I do realise they would crush lovefilm but healthy competition means cheaper deals for us.

"near dvd quality". if I were hopelessly optimistic I'd think that meant at least a bit *better* than DVD, but cynically I know it means "in DVD resolution but with a better codec and lots more compression".

as it is when marketing people say "digital quality" I can only think "compressed as much as we think the human brain can handle".

Question?
is the free films available on ps3 the same as the ones you can stream off there website. I have the unlimited games, bluy ray etc package?

Yeah, I had a £9 per month mobile contract, but when I wanted unlimited Internet access and messages they wanted more money...facists!

You do realise the PS3 can play your DVDs right? Also, the costs of the infrastructure need to stream good quality movies, the storage to keep all those movies, the digital rights to stream the movies over the web and the software to view it all is NOT FREE.
£9.99 a month is a bargain. Stop whinging, cancel your subscription and re-sign to get a better deal. HOT HOT and HOT again

There are 2 levels of movies on the site which I can see.
One is FREE and the other is FREE IN PACKAGE.

Do free ones come out of my monthly allowance, and if so what are Free in Package?
Don't have a PS3 but my Sammy TV does lovefilm as it's built in.

thanks

what? It is a massive infrastructure to support multi access streaming media solutions as well as huge data costs to an ISP.

Perhaps you think it's reasonable that you should get something for nothing. I think most people are of the mind that if something is worth having then it is worth paying for. Stop being so tight.

Theres 3 options:

1. Free (doesn't affect your package)
2. Free within your package
3. Pay per view

Got Lovefilm and a PS3 so thought I would give it a try. What a let-down! Both the films I selected started ok but each time the PS3 locked up so I had to use the power button on the PS3 to get it working again. Might just be teething troubles somewhere. The PS3 is connected via wi-fi, maybe this is the cause of the problem.

Excellent. I'm already on one of the more expensive deals with Lovefilm so I just logged in via my PS3 and already I'm watching "Let The Right One In". There seems to be a really good selection though and thats only after a 5/10 minute browse. Heat added!!
#39
you can do this on the Sony Bravia, not the best quality and the choice of movies isn't great either.
#40
Watch 'King of Kong' if not for the streaming service I would never have seen this great flic! awesome watch.
