only tried the red thai curry and it was disgusting (The asda branded red thai sauce is also £1 and tastes great and far more authentic)

GROSS - MAN

How drôle.

Clearly you haven't tried them.

As tedious a man Grossman is, the sauces are the best canned/jar sauces around, (I have tried more than just a few!) and although many of them are little faster than cooking from scratch, they are undoubtedly convenient.
#7
LOVE these sauces........you'll honk of garlic after having pretty much any of them, but there is a Primavera one which is garlic free! The Tomato & Chilli sauce is one of the best I've had from a jar. Also, if you look at the ingredient lists, they aren't full of additives.
#8
Excellent dea, thanks for posting.

Just been and stocked up, way better than Dolmio / Ragu / Tescos own etc
#9
These are a pound all over the place now so dunno why everyones voting hot as a deal..
#10
Amazing sauces! My favourite.
#11
Seems every supermarket has done this for a quid recently!

Just be aware it's a smallish jar. 350g or there abouts, not 500g like you find with Dolmio, etc.
#12
the wild mushroom one is great :)
#13
Personally I'm not a fan at all - i think they are very poor sauces, and much prefer the co-op own brand jarred sauces. Still, I guess this is a bargain price if you like them.
#14
The Puttanesca one is nice, the others get a bit bland i have found.....especially the bolognese sauce.
#15
The tomato and chilli is particularly lovely IMHO.

OP (or anybody who knows), would you mind telling us which pasta is on sale alongside the sauces? I am waiting for De Cecco linguine to come down from the astonishing £1.49 per 500g it seems to be stuck at.
#16
His pasta sauces are ok but i tried the Chicken Tikka Masala sauce recently which was absolutely horrible!

and another thing, they all need salt.
#17
ryderage
Grossman is a racist pig. His sauces are overrated, unhealthy and I wouldn't touch his 'shíte in a jar' with bargepole. Just MY opinion.

Unhealthy? show me the evidence to back that up please.

Anyway cheers OP will stock up.

the chilli tomato pasta sauce is lovely.

am having the tomato and bacon one in a few days.

hot for a pound!

and what has he said which is racist (ryderage may be right, but when publicly slagging someone off i think it is wise to post a link to some proof of this)
#19
Dont rate them at all, had a few in the past at full price and been underwhelmed, had the bolognaise this weekend and my view has not changed.
#20
Co-op are over priced, these sell in the other supermarkets for about £1.79 each.
ASDA and Tesco's have had these on offer a while ago at 3 for £2.00

Make your own = a much healthier option!!
These sauces are heart attack material!
#21
The Puttanesca & Tom + Chilli are my fav, I prefer them to all but homemade!.

They are not always on offer for £1 each, hence why it's a deal.

I've tried them and they are GROSS MAN, how can you call these the best sauses around

They see you coming
#25
Did you join just to make these 2 posts about the sauces?

Sad git!
#26
These sauces really are nice, I have had the Tikka sauce and the bolognaise sauce, both good and cost far more than this at the time, £2 upwards if I recollect correctly, good deal in my eyes!

There are definitely more tasteless/bland/boring sauces around, your opinion I guess, most seem to disagree with you! :whistling:

These sauces are heart attack material!

Heart attack material?

Ingredients for the Tomato & Basil sauce
Diced Tomatoes in Juice (75%), Tomato Paste, Sunflower Oil, Sugar, Garlic Puree (3.1%), Basil (2.8%), Sea Salt, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Concentrated Lemon Juice, Black Pepper.

So something made of 75% tomatoes is heart attack material? :whistling:

I dread to think what you would post in a deal about chocolate bars, maybe something like "Consuming these may cause death?"
#30
while the sauces aint out of this world i do like them
puttanesca is the one i only buy though

what a weird statement

co-op are over-priced yet these are £1 compared to £1.79 at the other supermarkets :w00t:

heart attack material yet they are low in fat, slat etc compared to all the other sauces I have seen

still taste disgusting mind you so make your own - = a much tastier option

You are kidding!
That's the one ground for complaint that I have!... they are full of it! The problem with most ready prepared foods :-(

One jar I have here, the Tomato & Chilli - Sodium = 0.5g/100g that is also given as Salt equivalent = 1.5g/100g = 1.5%
So.. if you have a whole 350g jar, there is equivalent of 5.25g of salt in that, and that's you nearly at the full recommended 6g a day JUST on that!

High blood pressure here we go!!

Yeah, probably why they are one of the biggest selling products around.

Admittedly I would much sooner have a Tuscan chef knocking food out for me in person, who wouldn't but seeing as that isn't going to happen, and I need to fill people on the quick at short notice, they are as good as ready prepared foods come!

Dead right too... that's why I used to post in larger font... but they wont' let me - so I have to struggle on, although since I got condemned to a low-carb diet, my vision has improved a little as my blood glucose levels have improved, but the real irony is - I can't even have PASTA with the sauce now anyway! :x

English please, what are you blabbing on about, you haven't made sense at all.

I actually like the jalfrezi....but still there not the best and the salt intake in these ready made sauces is bad

Normal price at the CO-OP is £2.09, that's 30p more that the usual price at the other supermarkets.

Glad to see that you agree with my comments about making your own.

I don't have a jar to hand, but i'm pretty sure you've misunderstood this (either that, or Mr Grossman can't do his maths) - i think this is to indicate that it contains 0.5g sodium, and 1.5g of potassium, used as a substitute (potassium chloride is what you find in LoSalt as an alternative to Sodium Chloride (table salt)).

Now, 0.5g Sodium works out at 0.5 divided by 23 (atomic weight of sodium), then multiplied by 58.5 (atomic weight of salt) which is just under 1.3. which comes to each jar containing almost 4.5g of salt (so still pretty bad for you, but not at your daily limit).

So either Lloyd Grossman has miscalculated 0.5g sodium to be 1.5g of salt, or it *also* contains a fairly sizable quantity of Potassium Chloride (which, in small doses, is fairly harmless, and generally better for you than salt, but it also happens to be what they use (in very high concentrations) as a lethal injection in the states).
