Lufthansa give out (umlimited) free drinks, including alcohol, too.
certainly on the flights to Germany anyway

Nice.

United operate the flights, not Lufthansa but yeah on transatlantic flights they do - on US domestic flights they don't.

Bizarrely in the US, the "full service" carriers act like low-cost airlines (no free food/drink and no free baggage) and SouthWest (which is meant to be a low-cost airline) acts like the full service carriers with free baggage and free drinks/snacks.

I haven't been on an American carrier that I can remember that served free alcoholic drinks, even transatlantically. We flew United in August and I am fairly sure there wasn't booze included. If there is, you can be sure though that it will only be "soft bar", i.e. beer and wine.

My mistake - apparently its only on Trans-Pacific not Trans-Atlantic flights (though it seems a bit hit and miss whether they actually charge you for drinks or not, regardless of it being policy to do so).

This is when I reply back to you , should learn to read before you write

Though you no doubt feel smug, I didn't misread anything so that makes no sense... Not that I criticised your post because you made a mistake - it was because of your snotty language.

I was on a United flight from Belfast to LA, via Newark.

On the EWR to LAX flight, only water, juices, fizzy drinks were free. Wine and beer were charged

Well its all somewhat irrelevant as the Rome flight has a 30 day validity. So on the dates above you can do London Buenos Aires on Iberia for £627 or on Lufthansa via your link for £1037, know what I would choose.. Or if 30 days were sufficient for me and I was looking to save money and fly with checked baggage then I could pick up an Alitalia flight to Rome for about £100 and still be about £500 better off than if I were flying Lufthansa.

I agree on the price, you've done good..
but the deal i posted wasn't intended for last minute, most good airlines tend to fill seats well before the event, and only under capacity planes sell off cheap tickets 2 weeks before. for people who prefer non london flights lufthansa is perfect for manchester, birmingham etc. the flights i looked at, china/japan/buenos aires/rio allcame up great for the later departing dates per the deal.

Price, Total Hours, Landing/Takeoff Times, Carrier, Entertainment System, Leg Pitch, Fleet Maintenance (free booze to some people).. all important factors.

I use laundries.
what for 5 weeks I spent January-march there 5 years back and used laundries and still had 17-18 kgs.. Cabin baggage is ok for long weekends but 5 weeks.. Come on.

But how much is that Ryanair return with a bag, it'd be tricky packing 5 weeks of clothes in a Ryanair sized baggage allowance

Much cheaper also, but you need to factor in the expensive visa needed for China.

For booking hotels online it is best to avoid large well known web sites like hotel.com, lastminute, expedia, opodo, asiarooms, tripadvisor which in turn will point you to high price web sitees, bookings.com etc.. as they pass little or no discount to the customer now that they dominate the market so they exhibit monopolistic behaviour. So the more they get dominate in the market the more that they are tempted to maintain high prices with subdued competitors. I would recommend that you use local country hotel booking web sites e.g. Chinese web sites for Beijing hotel, local Singapore web sites for Singapore and so on... This week I did just this for booking a hotel in HK. For the same named (HK Mini Central Hotel) hotel in HK, same four nights in late August, booking with a Chinese web site cost £233 but using hotel.com came to £343. This price difference is not due to VAT since VAT is not charged for foreign hotel booking in UK. By the way all three places are worth going, you are bound to find plenty to do for a week or two... just do some homework using a search engine. Though Singapore is one big metropolis with limited land so you are more likely to risk less activities when compared with Beijing and Tokyo.

How much for business ?
If you're travelling business class, get your secretary to find out.
76junglist
That is a bargain price to get over there. Love Berlin myself. So much has gone on there over the past few decades, making it a lot more interesting than I was expecting initally.

I can certainly recommend the Park Inn on Alexanderplatz - although the glass partition walls between the toilet and bedroom means that there'll be a lot less mystery between you and your room mate by the end of the trip......

Many hotel rooms are like that in Europe now I find particularly mid range ones. I.e. holiday inn express, Hampton Hilton etc... It's pretty disgusting really, and partly why I'd never share a hotel room when going away now unless it was other half etc... Even then lack of Karzee door isn't on, they might as well use a curtain!

How easy and expensive is it to get transport from the airport to the city centre?

Thinking about going over a weekend for christmas markets

Is great Berlin mate,me and the misses went a few years ago and the transport system is excellent.THey have got the underground system just like London .Do your homework and it will save you ,they have buses that leave the airport for the centre,we paid for a transport system ticket and when the bus stoppes at the first underground station we got off and boarded the tube, same coming back, the tubes are literally every couple of minutes. We had a great time,am so tempted again.

Did the same three years ago, get the bus from the Airport to the tube then we paid 24 euro for a three day travel pass. Worth it's weight in gold, trains are quick, frequent and on time. Best way to get around.

Good airline for the money, part of the Star Alliance network which I love <3

Cabin crew are brusque yet efficient, no real surprise as they're mostly German, but a bit old. Still miles better than the haggard old things you tend to find on BA though (_;)

The fares are codeshares flights with Continental/United. They are direct but I just checked Traveljungle and there are cheaper direct fares with Delta (NY for £327) AND Lufthansa marketed direct flights (with Travelpack on Continental/United) for £345. Not a good deal. Voted cold.

Are these direct flights or do you fly from Heathrow to Munich then to the States. This can put a lot on your journey times.
