250gb Hard drive - pause and rewind live TV - Built in Freeview.. Twin Freeview tuners give a wide range of recording and viewing options.
Watch one channel while recording another or even record two channels simultaneously while playing back a previous recording! Furthermore, the combination of twin tuners and hard drive allows live TV to be paused, rewound and even edited. Twin tuners also allow for picture in picture. Other useful features include a CI card interface for pay TV services such as top up tv (ESPN) and even a built-in demodulator: so you don't even need to have a TV with SCART socket for the player to work.

features:

Playback compatibility
Support region 2 code
2 channel stereo output
Mono sound
2 SCART sockets
Built in digital tuner
7 day electronic programme guide (EPG)
Pause Live TV function
250Gb Hard Disc Drive
Remote control requires 2 x AAA batteries
Size (H)6, (W)43, (D)33cm
ESPN card slot

That looks a good deal to me - no reviews on Ebuyer yet, but I use them a lot and they have always been good as gold taking stuff back if not happy.

The modulator is handy if you want to pipe it wound the house but just as a twin tuner recorder it looks great value.

Only concern for me is if its a re-badged thomson Topup-TV unit, as these were very problematic.

I was just glad I held off buying one when they was more expensive, I looked at something similar about 18 months ago, but thought I'd wait, glad that I did...

sounds like a good deal to me. I am not too sure how this does interconnect with my Samsung LCD that comes with an inbuild freeview. Does this interfere somehow? Do I need an additional
aerial for this device or can I interconnect it with the TV somehow from where it can also take
the aerial signal.

Thanks

It might have a pass-through for the aerial.

Though, as it sounds like you already have a hdtv, why not wait a while and put the money saved toward a Freeview HD pvr?
They might be ~£200 at the moment, but i'm sure they'll drop rapidly.

Apparently TUTV will be showing Sky Sports 1 & 2 next season (for a charge) so you will be able to watch them on this.

Good point, but have you got a source for the info??

I heard of the plans for 'Sky Picnic' but not that they would be on TUTV.

Cheaper on the daily Ebay deals

http://deals.ebay.co.uk/

Looks like the same product from the same place with free delivery.

I don't believe it's been 100% confirmed but after BT Visions announcement today it's 99% certain.

What are the 2 antenna ports for??

probably for the twin tuner I'd imagine, a coaxial cable would run from your tv point into the PVR, then out again to the Television...

ive got one of these, its not bad. Freezes sometimes, but it sorts itself out. Does anyone know how to get the picture in picture mode working? Didnt even realise it was able to do that!:-D

What would you say the ratio is for good recordings:bad recordings? I am sick of my Thomson DVD recorder which has an infuriatingly high risk of bad burns even on verbatim discs. I need something more reliable at an affordable price like this.

Additionally if these units are old Top Up TV units then wouldn't that class them as "refurbished" like the ones on ebay?

Off topic, but I'm waiting for the HD Freeview boxes to come down in price.

No way I'm paying £100+ just for a few HD channels without even recording built in!

Almost tempting to go for this, but I don't really need it...

I have a single tuner humax pvr-8000t with only a 40gb hard drive, but it has never crashed on me and 40gb records plenty anyway. (especially considering the overly compressed freeview pictures)

A great deal anyway and as wolvesinwales says possibly £30 worth of hard drive in there!

The Techwood AEDTR807 they also sell (£39.99) is a sound one but 80GB. I have had my one for about 3 years and it has been excellent. I find 80GB large enough anyway
