as a single person I think the deals are great - I get a good bottle of wine and 2 good sixed 2 course meals for a tenner, I get great 3 for £5 meals that do me after work, the indian and chineese meals are good sized, and these frozen party things are great side dishes to keep in freezer and use with other meals eg spring rolls, pakora
for the price the taste of food cant be beaten
also the soups are brilliant, chepaer than covent garden and other fresh soups and twice as tasty (especially the chorizo one)

M&S food has bombed over the past few years (though still better quality than Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys... and some of Waitrose).

If you're fussy about meat and where it's from, quite a lot of the party food has meat from Thailand.

how do you know the meat is from thailand? are you a supplier? no thought not! most suppliers are from uk brazil ect i dont think ive ever seen a supplier from thailand, and i know this as i work for m and s and when we do have problems with things we go back to the supplier!!

ALSO A LOT OF THE PARTY FOOD DOESNT EVEN CONTAIN MEAT... perhaps you should go to a store and see for yourself!!

Gee didn't expect a reply like this.

First, I hope you have shares in the company to be so emotive.

Second, actually try reading the packaging on the food you stack on the shelves. It says on the side of packaging that the meat is from Thailand (or Brazil). You'll see a rather discrete piece of text on the side of the boxes stating the source of the product. Off the top of my head, the duck spring rolls contain meat from Thailand (this was not just last Xmas's party food, but a box purchased a few months ago too). Mostly it's only found in small food (ie., party food) because of the size/cost restraints for transportation etc. The product are also often pre-frozen too.

Third, M&S are fully aware they are using meats from Thailand. It won't be something they'll be sending back to the supplier.

Edit: Just to add. In case you're still in denial, the issue of labelling and meat products was taken up by Unite last year. Note the sources of meat!!
To confirm M&S uses Thai meats:

"Consumer concern on M&S meat labelling
20 March 2008

Unite, Britain's biggest union, is today (20th March) calling on M&S to clearly label all meat products in the interests of consumers and workers in M&S's supply chain, as a survey of 1100 people reveals concern over meat labelling. Demonstrations will be held today outside Ipswich Marks and Spencers, near Sir Stuart Rose's home town of Woodbridge. The demonstration is part of rolling action outside M&S outlets across the UK and the Republic of Ireland today .

M&S prominently labels British meat on the front of the packet but uses a small label on the side or back if the meat is from Brazil or Thailand. 62% of respondents said that if they had learnt that they had unknowingly bought meat or meat products that were sourced in Thailand or Brazil they would change their shopping preference to another retailer. Unite is calling on M&S to clearly label and state how old all meat products are. 85% of respondents said they would be unhappy if their meat was sourced from Thailand and 70% said they would be unhappy if it was sourced from Brazil.

Retailers like M&S are using imported meat from Brazil and Thailand. The union believes the increase of meat imports is putting pressure on the conditions for low paid workers in the UK who are employed in the meat supply chain."

who cares where it comes from as long as it tastes good (which in M & S it normally does)!
