Credit card at the ready. This must be the big summer sale. Anyone know if the online sale will start at midnight, as usual?
#4
How can you vote for a sale that hasn't yet started - it could be a rubbish sale???
#5
Nah, the rubbish sale was a few weeks ago. This is The Summer Sale.

most retailers will only refund an item at the lower of current selling price and price actually paid, so your probably best waiting!

Last year I got the wrong size item for Christmas and took it back and got the full refund and then bought it in the correct size at half price...

Thats if you haven't got the receipt to show how much you paid!!

Obviously the next day i will still have the receipt showing i paid full price and wont of worn them, so whats stopping me buying them today then if they've gone in the sale taking them back tomorrow and saying may i return these please heres the receipt. Now i would like to buy them again but oh look they're now in the sale!!

Just don't pay for them on your card then: I bought somethin in my M&S a while back, then when I went to return it, I got back less as the item had gone on sale in the mean-time!!

Did you have a receipt to prove how much you paid or were you over the returns period (usually 28 days)

LOL never heard such a thing ever, and theres certainly nothing in marks returns policy!

i used to work in retail, most of it with House of Fraser and we did this all the time!! The other trick is to go in the day before select a load of stuff then get them to reserve it and put it in the back for a day then come in the next day when the sale has started and go buy all the clothes you reserved!!
#22
As a former employee of M&S, I have heard of it :)

Good luck not letting a Cx return something they don't want within 14 days, I'd have your manager out on that shop floor quicker than you would imagine, and so what if I want to re-buy them at a cheaper price, that's not criminal in my book..

Here here!

Plus its not breaking any kind of rules! Hell its not even bending the rules as theres no such rule to bend in the 1st place!!
#26
I understand your logic and would love to be able to buy-back returned items, but if it's a store/company policy then that's that. Though, if the items you have returned are still available on the shop floor there is little they can do, unlikely in a sale scenario unless you follow your returned items back onto the shop floor and re-purchase them. Maybe they prefer to give other customers a chance to buy the items you've just returned.

I think the buy-back policy, if it exists, will only stop you from returning and then saying "can I have those items back", to re-purchase them.

It doesn't say in M&S terms and conditions you can't have a tea party in the middle of the store, doesn't mean you'll get away with it. They do not need to put every possible scenario into their terms and conditions for things that are in addition to your statory rights.

Point out where I said they would not let you return it within 14 days. What I said is you cannot return it and buy it back immediately at the lower price. Also, they don't have to let you return any item that is not faulty if you have bought it in person. As it happens M&S have decided to give 35 days (not 14 - I have no idea where this number has come from)

~~

Of course the simple solution is try it, or call them and ask what there policy is. Tell them you think there is a sale starting and want to know if goods you have bought today can be returned and bought at sale price should they go into sale. Customer services number is on their website.

What time does the online sale start? Does anyone know?
#29
no one knows, it could be midnight or it could be 9am tomorrow morning.
last time around they started it 9am in the morning which was different to all preious sales, but i guess we'll have to wait and see.

If you take stuff back to M & S for a refund, because the stuff you bought has been reduced in the sale, they dont let you re-buy your goods back. No idea why, but I took a sweater back for a refund and wanted to re-buy it as it was less than half the price I'd paid and was told no, I'd have to wait for it to be reduced, put back out on display and then I could buy it. Crazy!

My mother works for the big M&S in Newcastle upon Tyne...shes there until 10 tonight setting the sale up.....over 75 mens suits being heavily reduced, and a further 20% off for me on top of that.....i shall be looking sharp by the weekend haha.

I just bought a suit 2 days ago. Think I'll return it Tomorrow if I can find the receipt!

Yeah but how do all of you's know what will be on sale? You could buy something today expecting to return it and re buy it or whatever, but what if the product you buy doesnt get reduced? They wont be reducing EVERYTHING, just selected lines. Maybe you guys would just get a refund if it doesnt get reduced?

There are some sale items online now - nothing comig up if you search for sale yet, but some items are already showing marked down prices, but you need to look.
#39
Sale is online now. Some good discounts on suits. Sadly, for my sizes anyway, its difficult to match up the right sizes.

You and your non-existent policy got owned so hard in this thread.

Also, luckily I heard about this sale on the radio today on my way to an M&S store to buy some stuff. Will now hold off for tommorow and see if I did the right thing.
