Buying cheap branded sat navs is false economy imho.

Agreed. My appalling Sony system has probably cost me a lot more in wasted fuel and time than the difference between the cost of the Sony system and a decent TomTom.

Who makes this sat nav so we can compare? I don't believe for 1 second that M&S do.

Anyone recognise the screen shots as it's certainly not tomtom?

Garmin is good too! My system has been rock solid for over a year. No issues at all.
#11
oh well have gone for this one as my sis wanted a satnav for her hubby for xmas and she only has a £50 budget so we'll see how he gets on with it!

I got a PDA with sat nav in it (meant to be mio and mio maps) installed Tomtom and works great cheapest option as the pda i bought was £45 and that was a year or 2 ago and i can install new versions of tomtom as and when i want them no need to upgrade this way and have a pda as well :D
#13
They are made by Binatone. I got a Binatone about 6 months ago as a free gift by taking out the Axa Insurance over 50s plan; I then cancelled after one payment so it cost me £6.
I didn't have a great problem with the installed software, but I "acquired" :whistling:TomTom software and put in on an SD card, it runs great!

If it is this one then its a cold deal, as you can get this model currently from Sainsbury for £59.95, more expensive than the £55 BUT it does come with UK maps, making this a cold deal unless you pirate software.

I never said it was £55, its £59.95 instore at Sainsbury IF it is the same model as this One only with official Binatone branding.

I saw the Binatone one instore at Sainsbury for £59.95 when I went in to look at the £49.99 Navman model posted the other day.

i bought my hubbie a tom tom a while ago as he is a hgv driver he use's it most days and loves it yet a few people he works with have gone for cheaper ones and there not as good dont have smaller roads on and stuff like that.

From Original post "Sat Nav including European Maps model for just less than £70
Non-European model is approximately £55"

Unless the OP means UK & RI maps is £55 and UK & RI as well a Mainland European maps is £70, then the non-european model must have chinese, american, australian or who knows what else mapping.

If these are rebadged Binatone units, surely its better just to buy Binatone units at least they have a website for theirs, where would you get support and additional mapping for the M&S unit unless they direct you to the Binatone website.

http://binatonegps.com/gps/

Sometimes rebadged units have custom firmware crippling the user from installing , thus a possibility the unit would need a firmware hack just to be able to utilise Binatone support, this is purely hypothetical though as I haven't seen either of the units, just if I was to buy one I would prefer to spend the £5 extra for the branded device to warranty register and know that any updates I want I can go to a website.

*scrub that* after further research, they are definitely rebadged Binatone, but the range has full support & warranty through Binatones website"

http://binatonegps.com/gps/ms/_en/product.php?id=1

So if the £55 has UK & ROI its a fiver saving over getting it from your local Sainsburys delivered (unless they are £55 instore too?), not the hottest of deals but ok.

can't believe that M&S would sell ones that don't have uk maps on personally? or am I missing something

They do, according to the website http://binatonegps.com/gps/ms/_en/product.php?id=1

Z350 comes in two version with UK & ROI maps and full european maps Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Eire (Republic of Ireland), Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guernsey, Italy, Vatican City, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Isle of Man, Monaco, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, United Kingdom.

Presume those are £55 & £70 respectively.

Original poster could do with editing their post changing "non european" to "UK & Ireland"
#25
yeah thats my point from my understanding the £55 model does indeed come with Uk & ROI Maps
#26
A review of this badged as a Binatone is not very favourable, making a particular note of how slow it is at processing route information, seems like it uses an underpowered processor.

http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile-devices/review/2007/09/24/Binatone-Carrera-X350-Sat-Nav/p1

If you are in the market for a decent budget SatNav seems like the Navman S30 is a better bet with far more positive reviews.

Probably a blessing for those that live on smaller roads and are inconvenienced by all those HGVs reversing back down the road once they realise the road signs marking a cul-de-sac are in fact not making it up :?
#28
How and where do you get the Tom Tom software from and install it on the M & S sat nav? I have just ordered one Z350WE.
#29
This deal is still there - worth it for the WE version, with 2 year warranty as a security I think, although I note that Asda Direct are selling the X350 for £40 + delivery http://direct.asda.com/Binatone-X350-UK-+-ROI/000556442,default,pd.html , which looks a great deal unless you need delivery to N. Ireland like me!
