Good deal, but the title needs a tweak (16th to 19th, not 16th to 10th)...

First post! :whistling:Thank you for pointing this out!

A Whole Oakham Chicken?

I suspect it's just a water filled fillet rather than a whole chicken. M & S need to work on lowering the packaging they use. More food less cardboard and plastic.
#4
They tend to be a medium or small whole chicken

An alternative for £10 is go to Sainsburys:-
1) Big Gessingham whole duck for £6 - £7 (depending on size) - this is at half price
2) Big 1.75 litre of fresh Tropicana orange or tropical juice - £1.79 - this is half price
3) Spend the remaining £1.20 - £2 or so on a dessert or vegetables

You are right there is always 10 times more plastic and cardboard than the plastic in a carry bag. So if the carrier bag is 5p I must be spending about £2.50- £5 just for the plastic and cardboard that go into my bin every time that I shop at M&S....I rather have the carrier bag for free and everything else loose to save the packaging costs. They should have an option if they are serious about green issues to buy without any packaging or minimal packaging.

Very well said both of you. I recently took part in a focus group for a new M&S store and not once did anyone ask if we liked the taste of the food, they believe the packaging is part of the eating experience. M&S see themselves as Nigella of supermarkets, un-wrapping a family size amount of food from M&S you feel more Steptoe and son with all the waste and rubbish created. But they paid me 90 pounds for two hours work tax free

Non of those have any fizz, but for something light and fruity I would probably go for the Rose.

The chicken is absolutely tiny ! I checked last night and was disappointed with the deal as a whole.

Another uninformed comment on HUKD! This adds no value whatsoever to the thread and may well mislead some who then don't consider pursuing a decent deal.

You can 'suspect' all you like but it's actually a high quality small whole chicken (it says it's for 2-3!) and the last one I had was delicious. Packaged in a simple foil tray in which it can be cooked with the whole thing in a film wrapper - hard to make that any simpler. I would agree that some other M&S stuff is over packaged but they are one of the leaders in addressing such issues.

These regular 2 for £10 deals at M&S are good value. Usual M&S quality but packaged at a more realistic price. They are not a fabulous bargain not to be missed but they are a bit of a treat in these straightened financial times. For what it's worth, I'd place them well above Tesco's £9 Finest copycat deals.

The wine was very limited (this time) in my local M&S. They has mases of the three cheapies (£3.99). I asked about the shiraz and the guy said it wasn't included (which is not what their website states! I grabbed one of the last two £5.99 gold label bottles - taste TBC!
I think they are "fine tuning" the deal to maximise the bottom line. Shame really, when it started was a great way to try their range, I know I have purchased several of the items full price since trying them in the two dine deal.
The moussaka & garlic ciabatta are V tasty though & if you can get the mix right you can get good value. Still worth it IMO

OK, but hardly a direct alternative is it? The M&S deal is a complete meal for 2. Your duck is probably for more people, no wine and what are you going to get in the way of vegies and a sweet for the remainder?

Your deal may well suit you better but it simply isn't a valid alternative to this deal.

The Tesco Finest £9 deal is a direct copycat and I would certainly pay the extra £1 for M&S, even though Tesco is my regular supermarket and I usually reject M&S on the basis of their inflated prices.

It's a meal for TWO for goodness' sake! It's a small, quality chicken. If you're looking to feed a regiment this probably isn't the deal for you!

How did you get asked to participate in this panel? (I'm keen to give it a go too!)

Well put. It's too easy to knock these deals but they are usually very good.

Went into M&S this morning & picked up a medium chicken which will be fine for our Sunday roast for a family of four with the usual veg etc. Also picked up the Lasagne which is so tasty & not something that I would have purchased before trying the meal deals as it is from their expensive range.
The wines are a bit of a disappointment this time, but hey cannot be 100% all the time....overall very happy with my purchases & I personally don't think that any of the supermarkets can match M&S on this.

chickens very small accrington lancs ,
i asked for any larger bird , told then these birds were no bigger than a budgie !
like every thing elce they have us hooked on the deal and start downsizing !
#26
Anyway, M&S meal for £10 is sometimes OK but right now the Sainsbury's half price offer is too competitive at the moment http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/379619/sainsbury-s-goes-half-price-crazy-f and for me top quality juice is far superior to that cheapest wine that is served up in the meal deal. By the way , dine for two does not always have to follow a strick menu of starter, main course , wine and dessert.

If you are adding something helpful to the thread could we have that in english that makes sense please? If it's just a bit of your recent life story we don't need it at all.
