Sorry if I've missed DealExtreme threads before relating to this... but surely you run the risk of paying import duty/VAT on this as it's coming from outside the EU?
#2
Looks good but only problem is it's deal extreme. If I'm not happy with the Joggler I can take it back (to the shop up the road) for a refund or replacement. I reckon android isn't far away for the joggler but if you're expecting an Ipad killer from either device you'll be sorely disappointed.

Still voted hot for a high spec device.

I dont think a cheap Hong Kong import will be an ipad killer somehow.

Also, need to add customs and duty on this price.

Nevertheless....intriguing...
banned#4
Yip, and an admin charge for the courier collecting it on Customs' behalf.

Can't really compare this to an ipad though. This runs flash :)
#5
Cute piece of kit. Will keep an eye on this.
#6
To compare this with an iPad is laughable!

Think at £75 quid compard to Ipads £499 not bad at all and open source so no doubt the hax0r community will work wonders :D Ive had many items from Dealextreme and never paid duty. But you watch il pay duty on mine for saying that :(

A lot of things from DealExtreme are less than £20 so aren't liable for any duty though. Up to you - but I'd wait for some reviews before buying this.

Had quite a few goods ranging from £50 to £110 and never paid duty :P

this looks more like the dell mini 5, which looks cool and more portable that the oversized lump of an ipad - but then if we have the iphone do we need something similar?
any way imo the ipad is cool but just a bigger version of the iphone....isnt practical and is way too big to be portable and cant multi task (what!) - more of a home alternative to a netbook (but more powerful - which isnt hard!) and something that stays in the phone - like surfing on the sofa

?!?

It's probably not funny anyway! :whistling:
#23
A little research via google and I find a very reflective screen and 2 hours battery life.

Probably not worth the £75 for the frustration.
#24
tempting
#25
Think I'll give this a miss but will pay around £200 if a decent company makes an android one.

what bout the Archos 7 Home Tablet? Around £150 i think when it is released. runs on android

and, iPad killer? we're still waiting for the iPhone killer (3 years later). Nothing will match the iPad for usability and design. You get what you pay for

So if the same device said sony on it would you pay £200 for it?

Same here, good for the price but would prefer something a little bit more rugged with better battery life and Android 2.* support out of the box. Although my Nokia Tablet is on the way out, so there is still hope that this may be on my shopping list.

Heat added, it is a good item for the price and with any luck the attention this gets will fuel the market for Android devices.

Doesn't have to be Sony, but he still has a valid point. How many Eken products do you own? lol

No disrespect to the product, they have done well bringing this to the market. But to say that Eken themselves or another more well known manufacturer cannot build upon what they have done here but do it better.. It is obviously going to happen, lets hope sooner rather than later.
#29
Yep as above want a better processor, better battery life and lastly if a bigger company make it , more updates are likely going to come out and be compatible.

This is a very big cause for concern. Support for Android updates at manufacturer level is no doubt a huge turn on for most consumers. Without this guarantee, these sorts of products will never be as 'big' as we want them to be.

Cooking ROMs is a valid alternative, but I am not sure how much life this device has in it due to the specifications. Android will no doubt become a very big beast in the future and a device that has the specification that goes above and beyond the call of duty is what most of us want.

----edit

For this sort of price though, it is tempting to purchase it just to have an Android tablet device to learn with and play about on. It is a bargain for sure.

not if they tag it as being a gift, which they always do for me.

I think its so stupid of them to build this without a built in gps.
#33
As much as I hate to say it, nothing will beat the iPad, just like nothing will/or has beaten the iphone, Apple just have a special touch! Apple are over priced yet they still sell all their products.

Indeed, in the case of the iPad you pay for a very big iPhone that won't make calls.
#35
Seriously considering this for £75. A shame it didnt have double the RAM. the processor seems okay.

Haven't touched my iPhone since I got a HTC HD2. But you sound like an Apple fanboy, so I guess you'll come back with some reason the HD2 isn't an iPhone killer.

It competes. But a killer? HD2, Desire, 3GS, X10, Nexus One are all comparable phones. Just depends what you're exactly after.

I for example much prefer the openness of Android whilst also having a decent camera and also a large screen. So this meant it was between the Desire and X10 (x10 having the better camera).

Chose the X10 a couple of weeks ago because I got it for £285 (brand new on these very forums) while the Desire would have cost £50 more (on ebay or HUKD). May regret the decision, but still better than the HD2 and 3GS for what I want. Much better price than the 3GS as well.
#38
I have an n97, which i find a lot easier to use than the iphone. In fact the only reason i can see to say the iphone is better is the apps.

Anyway, i would consider getting this as simply an ebook reader if the batter was double what it is

The iphone has already been beaten and the ipad is just a big iphone which will be lacking some essential plugins because Mr Jobs likes to fall out with anyone not in apple world. However one thing i will say about apple they are really good at marketing and making the general public very tunnel visioned

They were just first to market with something that appealed to the mass market. The inevitable decline of the closed platform and the rise of the open one is already visible in sales figures.
