#4
Questions: -

Which Android version?
Can this access the Marketplace?
Which CPU?
Battery life?
#5
thanks goonertillidie doesn't really state what android version I tried google lots of info on the item but doesn't say what version of android

Answering my own questions with the help of Google:

Android 1.7
bigboxstore review
#7
450Mhz CPU
#8
Great price for this little thing - its not top of the range, but it'll surf, play videos, play games etc just fine, and for less than £60!
[mod]#9
yeh wondering if you could update the OS
#10
Checkout the customer discussions below the reviews all.

Andriod v1.7.2 (Some claim to have updated beyond that with firmware messing?).

CPU 600mhz?

Not much on battery life, few complaints about it being poor, but no figures.

No Andriod market, instead some third party thing from what I've understood.

Tempting, but don't really want one and might not be such a cheap toy if customs hammer you on duty.

This won't have the real Android Market, but something similar, although with the help of a Rooted ROM some will add access to the real market, but don't worry if you don't want to risk installing a ROM for fear of 'bricking' your tablet, then there is no shortage of App Markets for Android. However, If you're buying on the basis that you will want to update the ROM, then it'll help if you know what Build it's using before buying, as some are better supported than others, my ePad runs WMT2.1.2_105, and is well suppported as far as ROM choices, and now runs really suprisingly well.PM if you need more info(_;) regarding this.

The main problem with some of these tablets is the battery life, which can vary greatly, as the cheap or clone tabs may have as low as a 1200mAh battery, wheras better ones have a 2400mAh battery, this obviously impacts the running time of the tablet, especially if you have WiFi on.Adjusting the screen brightness can help a lot in this respect, as can using an App killer, to make sure you haven't got loads of things running in the background. You'll be suprised though, that with a little work and learning to use it correctly, just how useful these cheap Android tablets can be, but don't buy if you're expecting an iPad, or want to play games, not that this won't play some, but only the more basic games, not 3D.

Exactly, and don't forget it makes a great eBook reader as well, use Aldiko, just be aware the processor speed may not be quite as stated, most of these are based on the WM8505 ARM processor, and are usually a real speed of 300mhz, but if it is 450mhz, then so much the better, as you say it's less than £60!
If you'd like to know more about their capabilities, then this may be useful...

Dont buy anything off these jokers. The lie about specs and then dont want to do anything about it. Bought a phone from them turned out that the screen size was smaller than advertised , difference spec'd camera , all lies. They wanted me to return it to them and pay for it without being refunded.
I would not buy anything from them ever again. Be very very careful.

the same item is at dealextreme (7" Touch Screen TFT LCD Google Android 1.6 Tablet PC w/ WiFi/Camera (VIA WM8505 ARM926)) same price too - never had any problems with them and in fact I got the M001 from hear with no prob's or custom charges.
#15
bloody good price!
I bought some chinese import thing to a similar spec for £65 with a 4 week delivery timescale.
Good price, heat added!

Got a similar model epad/apad/flytouch/m002 - runs android 1.6 but updated rom as above and runs great for what i use it for. Web browsing, email, youtube/ ebay/facebook apps, mp3 player, kindle app, comic reader etc
Love it!

Ask yourself the question, how good can this actually be ? They're selling it for under £60, and are making profit out of it.

I had one a while back, after a week it was chucked in the drawer.
It's Android 1.6 (they call it 1.7 due to the changes they made in the software, there is no official 1.7).

The UI is very, very slow, video playback is awful, no real apps market, very poorly made (feels like the front of the resistive screen will peel off at any moment), battery life is dreadful, wifi is flaky and unreliable.

For the money, if it worked well enough it would have been a good deal. But the fact is it's pretty much useless.

You only need to know one word for this deal... AVOID!
It's crap like this that put a dent in Androids reputation for a while (even my first impression was "wow, if this is Android I don't think I'll bother with it again", which I'm glad I changed my mind about).

I got an Orange San Fransisco after this thing, and while the screen may be nearly half the size, it's an amazing little phone and I hardly ever put the damn thing down.

Not bad if all you want is a budget net browser. I wonder if it has a resistive screen though :|

Does this tablet have the horsepower to run the iPlayer app?
#23
They only take paypal. I bet you can send them payment via Western Union too.

On a different note, anyone would like to mail me some money? I promise tablet twice as good as this one and for half the price. Trust me!

Resistive screen?
Yes, forgot to mention one other thing about that too.
If you need to press on the screen close to the edges, it's very difficult and it feels like you're going to damage it because you have to press too hard.

If you're trying to say this site is dodgy, you're way off the mark.
While some of the products aren't exactly great, they are a very trustworthy site and I've used them pretty frequently for some time now.

You've been here over 2 years and not posted a single deal. If you're only contribution to this site is slandering companies you've obviously never used, you really should take your attitude elsewhere.

I've used FocalPrice quite often and they are very unreliable. If it's not apparent from my comment I would not recommend anyone using it. Shipments do get lost and it's impossible to return your purchase and get a refund for it. I never bought anything requiring warranty returns, so I would not be able to comment on that. Buying an item as expensive as tablet from them is a bad idea.

Don't know about UK customs and FocalPrice. Website is in dollars, so I use US Paypal and ship to US address.

Any website with magnitude of FocalPrice should accept credit card payments. It's understandable to charge extra fee for using credit card to offset cost of payment, but not providing an option should raise a red flag for any buyer. Credit Card companies will revoke business agreement if enough customers complain.

I do not post deals ever, anywhere. Just don't have much time for that. I do appreciate hard work of people that do.
It's nice to know that someone bothers to read comments and respond.

protip: I have a similar one and it is complete junk. Feels horrible, comes with some strange chinese knockoff. Once I managed to actually find a nice man that worked on custom firmware for my tablet it improved it a lot. But it still just feels terrible to use.
#34
Will it play crisis? :p
#35
It wont run Iplayer no, you need 2.2+ for it.
#36
The best generic tablet at this time in my opinion is the dropad a8 which can be had for around £150. I would'nt waste my money on this junk !
#37
doesnt look too bad in this video and for the price its not going to be the end of the world if it isnt what you hope for. just put it on ebay. ouldnt mind something like this for skype video calls, as my phone (htc desire) doesnt have a forward facing camera.
#38
and by ouldnt mind i mean 'wouldnt' mind

Rubbish.

I'm sure some kid out there will be delighted with a gift like this
