shd be FREE - i just got my imac in july!

Why the cold votes. If I bought a new Mac 2 months ago, I would be well pleased to have the opportunity to upgrade to 10.6 for less than £8

I wonder if Microsoft will be offering a similar deal with Windows 7?
#5
i was sure that last time the upgrade was free if you had recently bought a mac
banned#6
microsoft offer a free upgrade if a pc was bought from june/july onwards, not all brands though.
#7
I think they shouldn't charge for this at all if you bought a Mac recently.

It is free, the charge is for postage only:
"This programme entitles the purchaser of a qualifying Mac computer purchased between June 8th, 2009 and December 26th, 2009, to upgrade to Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard for a Postage & Packing (P&P) Fee."

But only on machines running Vista Home Premium or above. And free in their case includes p&p of up to 28 quid that I know of (looking at you Toshiba)...

My copy was dispatched yesterday.

I bought my iMac on the 8th of June, good thing it wasn't a day earlier or I would have been really annoyed.

Why are people moaning about having to pay £7.95 for this anyway? It is an extremely good price!
#14
got mine today absolutely awesome for only £7.95 well worth it people a must buy!!

The "upgrade" (you need to already have leopard) is $29 in the US and £25 in the UK

The "up to date" (which is in this thread, for those who bought a mac since June 8th) is $9.95 in the US and £7.95 in the UK

The OS (which only comes as a pack with iLife/iWork09) is $169 in the US and £129 in the UK

all are painful mark ups but that's just typical of US to UK prices.

no it's not, it's £129.
£39 is for the "family pack" upgrade, same as this item but with 5 licenses.

You don't have to have Leopard, Tiger works fine.

Anyways, ordered this for my new MacBook I bought a couple of days ago, can't complain at the price since it's just to cover P&P!

Actually, you do need to have Leopard.
the upgrade disk can be used on tiger, but as it's an upgrade disk, it would be illegal to upgrade from Tiger

"As Walt Mossberg says, you "can" update Tiger with a $29 Snow Leopard disk. You also "can" just download it off a torrent for free. Both are in violation of Apple's license agreement. Point is: Apple's EULA states that if you run Tiger, you need to buy the Box set to upgrade. $150 is still less than Windows is charging for 7 updates - plus you get iWork and iLife thrown into the package."

I bought my macbook on 7th June. ordered online and entered purchase date as 8th June and went through...

So you don't need Leopard then?
#29
technically no, but legally yes.
it's down to morals and law as per usual.
If you're gonna buy an upgrade and use it illegally to install you might as well just download it illegally from the internet....same laws broken.

Has anyone received their upgrade yet? I still haven't even though I ordered on 12th August. I spoke to Apple today and was told I should get it mid-September! They're busy processing lots of orders apparently. Fekking useless.
#31
heard it doesnt work good with CS3. we bought CS4 too but our partners cant upgrade yet so we have to stick with CS3. and now - CS5 is about to be released! grrrrrr. wish they'd release it as a proper release instead of every year or less.
#32
If you purchased a MAC after 6 June, you shouldn't have to pay to upgrade. You should be able to get it for FREE. Just click on the apple in the upper left hand corner of your screen, click on software upgrade and it should tell you what version you currently have and allows you to upgrade onscreen for FREE.

Why pay for something you can get for free???
