Just so people know, this is the 2GB RAM/128GB SSD/1.4Ghz version, usually £999 direct from Apple.

Heat.

Wish i had £900 spare cash

It's a little cheaper (£850) at Bestbuy with the 14.89% Quidco offer on at the moment if you are prepared to wait a little for the cashback, but nice to see a straight up discount. Let's hope Amazon starts getting into a pricing war.

Good price :)
#7
Good price .. I have the 64Gb entry level one, great ultra portable laptop!

I think the Best Buy 14.89% cashback ends today.

This is an out of date model. buy the new design from apple

Great price, but you really need the build to order 4GB memory option only available directly from Apple. Memory cannot be added later

It is the new one

Don't know much about these but that seems like one hell of a lot of cash for an 11" screen!

*Before I am accused of being a Apple-hater I have not voted cold!
#15
my sister would love this but i got her a MBP, the only downside to this is you cant spend another £80 and double the RAM speed from 2gb to 4gb at Dixons, only apple can do that.

Not really needed for most people, to be honest. When it pages out to the SSD, it is so fast you don't get any beachballs or notice any slowdowns.

If I were going for the 13" model, I probably would go for the 4GB upgrade as you would be more inclined to do heavier work with the more powerful processors that it sports.
#17
does SSD give noticeable speed to stuff like iPhoto etc.?
#18
this gives a quick look at SSD performance.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-notebook-portable,1913-5.html

all the reviews say the instant on is one hell of a feature as well and the 4gb would only be a for heavy users who would in all honesty go for a macbook pro anyway
#19
hmm.. is this cheaper or is the student discount cheaper?

student discount price is £858

I'm typing this on my Air 13" but I can't imagine spending this much on 11". In any case 2GB should be fine on this machine, it's not as if much productivity can be achieved anyway. Get a student to buy one for you, cheaper than this and 3 year warranty. It's a no brainer.

SSD rocks everything loads instantly. It'll amaze you every time you use it.

You could get a PC of equivalent spec for 1 third or 1 quarter of this price. If you don't like Windows, there's Linux (although drivers could be a problem). Why pay 3 or 4 times what it's worth, for a pitifully low-speced laptop, just so you can have fashionable brand name? You must be insane.

Totally agree that there's an 'Apple Tax' there in the price but it isn't as high as most people think. The hardware / support and bundled software (not talking about the OS, that's personal preference) is vastly superior to that of a cheap Windows box. The nearest competitor to the new MacBook airs are the smaller Sonys, and they cost just as much.
#26
i want the 13 inch 2ghz version.. will wait till a good price comes along

Nonsense. Find me a computer that's this thin, this light, that looks this good, with the same hardware for this price. I looked high and low for an ultrathin last night that came close to this price and didn't find one.

student discount on this model is £938 from the apple site
#31
there's two types of discount, that must be the lower

that must be the Higher Education Discount.
The FE discount for colleges and universities brings the price to £858 with 3 years warranty

Yep and the usual posters who pop their heads in to complain about anyone who dares to say anything negative against the Great Mac!
#35
858 is a great price for students.. rumour that new macbook pro is coming out early 2011 tho >.< hmm... dilemma.
#36
seems to be £999 for me?
