Thanks.

Sadly I think you can expect this to go cold with the usual I can get xyz laptop for a fraction of the price and then people saying there is an imminent release of a newer model(which apparently there is).

Newer models are expected to be released in the next 6-8 weeks.

Intel are shipping the newer Sandy Bridge dual core chips from 20th Feb.

Also, great price, although not too great for any real graphics work, as I found out (even with an SSD installed).

The 8gb RAM upgrades are pretty cheap at the moment. I think there was one posted here recently.

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=13803

Recently, reports emerged claiming that Apple’s supplies of the current MacBook Pro models were tightening up, and now we have received information that every MacBook Pro model’s stock is constrained at the moment, except the higher-end 13-inch model. We have also heard some chatter about February 9th (Wednesday) being the update day, but we cannot confirm this with any certainty.

Best Buy inventory was showing 11th of March as the release date for the new MB pro, better holding off for those imo.

Its going to be delayed because the chips were faulty from Intel so i'm thinking April but still believe this to be a good price if someone needs one now

I paid almost £900 less for a loaf of bread, so I guess I should vote cold too?

Back to the original post, not a terrible deal for someone in the market for one, but at that price and with the new macbook pro round the corner, I'd either wait or get a macbook air instead.

ignoring all other factors, 154.52 cheaper than apple plus nectar points, hot

Well, not in value for money that's for sure.
#13
Hot, but I'd still say give it another few weeks, prices are only going to get better and better until March when the line is updated.

The new ones are 15 and 17 inches, no news of a new 13 inch.

Bottom line: it's up to you.

Macs are great for lots of things, but are they worth the price? It depends on the user. Sure, you can get a much higer spec, idk, VAIO for the same amount of money, but it's all up to you. If you want a mac, get a mac, if you don't, don't.

Personally, I don't think macbooks are value for money, BUT, since this is a very good price COMPARED to other prices, I'm voting hot.
#21
Voted cold because I'm jealous and bitter that I can't afford one. I'm kidding btw.

Macbooks are very poor value for money. The premium you pay is for the brand. and they are no better for designers than pc, thats a huge myth.

Well I have this mac and 2 other windows laptops and the sooner I get rid of the windows ones the better, the mac is superb and just does the business. Won't go back now.
#24
Typical Mac Jibe going on here lol. I have a Mac & PC - Swings and roundabouts really, they both do certain things really well, but the Mac looks much better.

No point waiting for the Sandy Ass version of this one because it does not have the i3 anyway, it has the P8600 - And is ok, but multitasking can be a little difficult if you are rendering and trying to do something else, it does slow up a bit.

i just bought my first mac and ive gotta say its pretty awesome so far (had it for a week or so)

but i bought it second hand and its a macbook air, got it for £500 which i think is max it should cost.

macs are really really good but too overpriced

You will get to realise that software like iMovie, the amazingly simple Mail and Pages are things you simply can not do without.

Quality item, get it!

£150 off. Good discount for Apple's stuff (since it is so rarely discounted). 10 hours battery life, metal case, magnetic power cord, etc isn't bad - nice high end laptop.

Up to the individual if they want to wait for the refresh or not, but after the recent Intel issues with their new chipset it might take a while to ship...

Just some info for any first time buyers out there. 10 Hour battery life is a bit of an overestimate, I think I can get about 3 hours proper usage from mine in the days I take it to work. This is just surfing an a bit of music, but the screen is on bright.

My thoughts exactly, I used to be Windows through and through but given the choice I use OSX although I do run Windows 7 in a VM coherence mode on the MBP.

My old 2008 C2D lasts longer than that yours mate :S?

Admittedly I have my brightness about halfway and playing music out of the speakers does drain it, but for just plain old surfing I can still get 5 hours out of a charge

Either way have never found a Windows laptop to match the battery life with the same spec/size.

I would say that is about right to be honest, I do surf quite a lot. But yes you are right, compared to ANY windows laptop with the same spec, this will blow it away.

You might have a dodgy battery
Mine lasts me 5-7 hours with videos , surfing etc.

How do you get on with that then? Find it works ok? It is something I would like to do which would allow me to bin the Windows 7 machine. I would want it to work like the mac though

There is a video here, not a great representation but have a look. Basically in coherence mode the windows apps etc run side by side Mac OSX as if it were one system.

Fantastic price. Macbooks are outstanding. Agreed that they are very expensive but I've had mine for 18 months and I've NEVER had any problems.

However, refresh is coming soon but its likely to be another £150 on top of this price.

860 Quid for a core2duo with 250gb hard drive space? You have got to be joking.

This is not a review site, its a deal sight. I wouldn't buy one myself, but seeing as its the cheapest offer around, have some heat OP.
