No doubt an expensive computer, but for a mac its a great deal, even cheaper than any education discount.
#2
Hot from me, currently the cheapest in the UK as mentioned above even cheaper than apples higher education pricing but if you're gonna buy applecare then best to get a student to buy for you.
#3
forgot how expensive these are. great price though. had mine over 2 years. the batteries are awful though, on my third already and seem to die quicker since i've upgraded to Snow. Granted i do use my laptop alot though
banned#4
HOT HOT!!!! got mine a few weeks ago paying the full wack! well worth it!

*Rolls around laughing*

Heat added I guess. Oooh they put an i5 in it, very good.

Stupid money for a laptop though.
#6
Has somone put an extra 1 at the beginning of the price ;-)
I know the apple lovers will pay any price, so have not voted either way ;-)

Is there a valid reason for Macs being so much more expensive than PCs? Not a wind up just wondering.

Apparently it cost sabout 800 quid to manufacture the Apple logo on the front?

Until you own a MacBook, you won't appreciate all the little things that add up to make these laptops way and above anything else you are likely to ever use.

Just got my new 17" MacBook Pro yesterday

Very nice PC with decent specs and nice design.

The provided 'alternative' operating system however will depend on your preference.

WOW!! This hasn't descended Mac bashing thread yet - Fantastic price, shame it's out of my budget!

So you know, I'm not voting on this, but cocky remarks like this make me one to vote cold out of spite.

Sorry to stereotype, but it always seems to be the case that Mac fans are always arrogant and have an air of "we know better then you" and do themselves no favours.

I am a mac fan. I am also a fan of good technology, and have a pc too. I dont think I am arrogant.
PC's are good for some things, Mac's good for others.
The sheer quality of manufacture, parts and software in macs are way better. They just work.
The compatibility, diy/lego-style and wide availability of parts make pc's way better for eg. gaming. However let down by MS with vista. Now much better.

This deal is good for what you get... so hot!

kind regards

If you feel inferior that's your issue, and what this has to do with what brand or computer you use or operating system I have no idea:?

There hasn't been any arrogance I can see, the reason I posted what I did is because the anti-mac squad vote every mac deal on this site cold whether its the cheapest deal for said item or not.

I couldn't care less whether you vote "cold out of spite" on this or any other deal, people who want to buy something can see from the price whether something is a good price or not irrespective of the temperature on here.

I bought my first desktop computer for about the same price back in 2002. What I'd do for that money back now...

Yeah, this guy is a special kind of douche. You'll see him in every mac thread, and he makes really tacky and cheap comments any decent, person would be embarassed to (like telling people they dont like macs because they cannot afford them), but when called out on it he will go crying to his mommy moderator. Stay well away from him. In fact I think he may already have cried about you quoting him to a mod. Wait till you hear from one, I know I will for this.

EDIT: This is actually a good deal, given the amount of saving. Still a stupid price to pay for a laptop.
#21
good deal for a mac. But wouldn't it be easier to just get a hackintosh?
#22
Hot, great price for an amazing product.
#23

#27
i bought my macbook cos i got sucked in by the marketing and the design, same goes for my clothes, car, food etc etc..... how come everyone gets in a tizz about macs?

For a cheaper (half price) laptop with a better spec, you might want to look at a Dell Studio 15

http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&kc=HDP&l=en&m_30=321942&oc=N0055803&rbc=N0055803&s=dhs

No, it's not made of aluminium.

No, it doesn't run OSX.

No, people won't think you're a millionaire.

But you're getting a hell of a lot for your money. If however you're a Mac diehard, you'll ignore this anyway and buy the Macbook in the OP. I'm just showing an alternative option for those who cannot justify over £1200 for a shiny laptop.

*Edit 2* You could pay a bit more and get a Vaio. Whatever brand floats your boat. Either way, you can still get a well spec'd machine for a lot less money. For the same money, you can have a beast that will practically make your breakfast!

Mainly a premium for the design. The good points are the excellent battery life, backlit keyboard and not needing to buy any anti-virus/ firewall software for the life of the machine. Obviously a big downside is the price.

Hackintoshes are a big pain in the behind to get everything working properly.

Sigh, just sick of people who don't own and have never used a Mac coming in on posts and having a go. What's the point?

nah sony vaios are better

With reference to the deal and not the product itself, then this is a fantastic and I need to put this into perspective as I was going to get one from the US in the not too distant future. The price in an Apple Shop for this model is $1799 and then, on top of this price, you'll need to pay the State Tax; let's assume a tax of 6%, but is dependent on which State. Therefore, the price for this laptop would be approx $1906 and using an exchange rate of $1.39=£1 for a Credit Card (not unreasonable given the current dire state of the £?) then this would cost around £1371.

Given that usually Apple products are usually markedly cheaper in the US, then this is a fantastic deal and if you factor in TopCashBack at 4% then this brings the price down to around £1209. In fact it even beats the US price with a 10% discount that I can usually get.

You've got to know that things aren't that good in the UK when it is not even worth buying an Apple in the US anymore!

Brilliant post and Heat & Rep added.

at what point did i say i did not own one

if i could run xcode/IB in windows steve jobs would not see a penny from me

Voted hot as it's a major saving on RRP. However, I'd definitely recommend going for an extended warranty with these (Applecare), as the build quality (or I should say component quality) is not great for the price.

Anyone comparing this to a Windows laptop needs to get a life. 2 completely different products with exclusive software which won't run on the other. It's like fighting over which is better, the PS3 or the 360......

Both games consoles are relatively close in price and effectively do the same thing.

Same story here except for the £600 price difference.

1) Calm down.
2) Everywhere you look you will see examples of design premiums. German cars generally have a higher price tag than cars made elsewhere yet people happily pay for them as they're well made and well designed. People buy iPods without a second thought for anything else because they're well designed.
3) That laptop is not only bigger in every dimension, but will have a battery life that doesn't even begin to compete with the MacBook Pro's, same with the graphics card. No, I'm not saying the MacBook Pro is a good machine, but that's an awful laptop to compare it against.

I'm off to play God of War 3 on my Xbox 360.....

They don't 'effectively do the same thing'. There's software which won't run on Windows and will on Mac's (and vice versa). Also, the OS's are completely different in their UI and architecture.

1) I'm plenty calm (about this subject anyway, right now however I am as high strung as a high strung thing).
2) Certainly. I myself have an iPod due to the functionality etc.
3) It helps when I figure out how to look at the specs on Comets site. Regardless, my gfx card knowledge is poor, but does come wih dedicated graphics.

Either way, I'd rather buy the Dell.

*Sigh* I can't be bothered, I'm out.

If you can afford the Macbook, have fun. I expect you'll have an iPad on the way too.
