No reviews this close to launch is a MAJOR red flag for me. No harm in waiting till next week. Sure, you might pay an extra £3, or you might save yourself £27.99....

Might be worth waiting on this one, early impressions are good but it's locked to 30fps for the moment, patch in development
#3
There's user reviews on the steam site.

Game is apparently locked to 30FPS .. 2K have said they are working on a patch to unlock the FPS, but no details of when it will be released ... just "soon"
#5
Wait for fixes and reviews. 30 fps lock and I heard it renders at 720p and upscales, dunno if that's true. I've also heard talk of sluggish controls due to the framerate. Also getting it from cdkeys means no refunds if it never gets fixed.

It's only a problem for people that don't understand how reviews work for major releases. Same thing happened with Doom and that turned out great. Plenty of user reviews up on steam although most are moaning about the 30fps lock on PC (2k today announced a patch to add 60 & unlocked options for the weekend)

I understand how reviews work for major releases. Just about every game has an embargo, that's undrstandable, but having no reviews up until launch day does look like they don't have confidence in their game. Given the number of high profile games that have come out and had huge problems at launch, I would again urge people to maybe wait till next week before dropping cash on this.

There is a thing called logic and if you have ever studied it you might know one of the basic principals, if A implies B then it does not follow that B implies A. In this case Doom releasing in a good state without sending out review copies for release does not imply that if a publisher doesn't send out review copies the game will release in a good state.

If you know how reviews work for major releases then you'll know the common reason given for this practice is the company doesn't want the game reviewed without a day one patch. You should also know that games quite often release day one with a lot of issues despite the patch as the publisher is keen to push out the game to hit a deadline. For a game like Mafia 3 we could also be looking at a polished first 8 hours before hitting more bug ridden quests, memory overflows or the like, always a favourite tactic of mine when a company releases a game that looks great for the first few hours to encourage people to rush out and buy it, but something that would have been picked up if someone was given longer to explore the game.

As always, if you pre-order it is a gamble and that is how any pre-order works, not just big releases.

I'd only ever pre order a game if I'm a fan of the franchise or genre, if the game doesn't live up to expectations well at least then I've played it and it's my own opinion. Mafia 3 is a sequel to 2 very good games that I am a big fan of, so I would buy it despite bad reviews/no reviews... will be buying my copy tomorrow and hopefully the patch is out to fix bugs and the fps problem.

what dlc? the season pass or a single piece?

Just some cars and weapons also 30 FPS cap until patch is released

looks like this is a game that should have done with a delay of a month or two more spent fixing stuff on this game,
major crashing issues and bugs, and i cant understand the tinny car sounds

It's ok. The interface is overwhelming, and i don't mean complex, it takes up like 40% of the screen and your current objective is permanently shown in the top left. Can't find a way to disable it.

World is as barren as ever in a Mafia game too.
#16
Imagine if the season pass turned out to be 3 patches:

1. For full HD
2. For QHD
3. For 4k

Oh, and stupid costumes - 2k seem to love selling skins

Reviews aren't great right now tbh for PC

This is garbage on ultra wide. I finally commit to an x34a and this game runs at 30 frames, motion blurs everything to hide low res textures, crashes out, cut scenes have black side borders and worse yet when your hit the blood red damage indicator is a border in the centre portion of the screen (it doesn't stretch to ultra wide width). World is barren with little to do, yes I want GTA graphics and interaction + detail but set in this time period. Bah!

I can already play it in 4k and there's going to be free post launch content including outfits, there's 3 paid expansions along with those too.

I have this on XB1 - Though I have a meaty gaming PC too! It's got a decent storyline. Car handling is pretty funky - The prologue is around 1.5-2 hours long, but very entertaining. Character control is actually rather good, once you get the control sensitivity right and you understand some of the mechanics. Graphically.....ooooh definitely 720p with some rough as balls upscaling and anti-aliasing, lol!

So you dont have the red damage frame issue? (link)

Or black borders on cut scenes.

Or limited to 30 frames?

Or tons of motion blur when travelling in vehicles?

And devs wonder why their games get pirated!!! I'll stick to my free download on this one and maybe I'll spend some money if we see nice 4k textures and a solid 60fps.

It's 720p on XBO? I would've thought it was at least 900p at the very least!

Ok you keep justifying it to yourself however you want, never mind the thousands of hours put into creating things you take for free. You have any skills? Can you service my boiler or detail my car maybe? I wont pay you though but that's ok right....maybe if you do a really good job I'll chuck you a few quid.

Just played for a few hours on a projector and 5.1 speakers. Well worth this sweet deal. MAJOR fun!

Good for you. I don't enjoy peeing away money on stuff that could be broke, so prefer to wait. Also, I'm not really sure why your setup is relevant, but thanks for sharing I guess....

Got this for Xbox one, soundtrack is fantastic....hate the game though, feels so dated and unpolished
#31
Now 26.99
#32
Dont waste your money, I bought this and it doesnt launch on anything that is not in the specs they posted, loads of people complaining not only about the 30fps lock but those of us that cant even launch the game !! Batman Arkham Knight all over, steer clear unless you are mental.

There are not any reviews at the moment because 2k didn't give out early access codes

Patch has been released last night for Mafia; fps lock has been fixed. You can now choose 30 fps, 60fps or unlimited frame rate. Further updates will follow for more fixes.

I'm not trying to justify anything, I don't need too. If I came to service your boiler but did a terrible job, I wouldn't expect to get paid, no matter how many hours I'd put in. As I said though, I don't need to justify anything because I'm not interested in how many thousands of hours they've put in, if it's not a quality product then it's not worth my money.
#36
Good game but it has bad optimisation. After the patch I'm getting 50-60 FPS even on low settings.
#37
I think we can expire this deal now, deal now bettered @ £23.97 use promo code "MAFIA777" for £23.97
