MAG (previously "MAG: Massive Action Game") is a multiplayer-only first-person shooter video game (developed by Zipper Interactive) for the Sony PlayStation 3 video entertainment system supporting up to 256 players per match.

The following description is taken from Zavvi.com's product page:
---
Find out if you're man enough to command a 128 strong army into battle with this huge, online first-person shooter for PS3. Experience a world of online warfare on an unprecedented scale, where 256 players take to the battlefield to win glory and the right to command their troops. Choose the force that reflects your fighting style and prove yourself to move through the chain of command to lead a squad, then a platoon, then an entire army. Exclusive to PS3, this action packed multiplayer madness is sure to sort the men from the boys. Are you officer material?

* Take your place in a 256-player battle - fight on multiple battlefronts, use airborne landings and on-call tactical strikes to secure strategic objectives.

* Squad Objectives - Every operative forms part of a tight knit 8 man squad. These squads are given objectives set by player officers and change as the battle reaches its climax.

* Explore the galaxy like never before you work together as a team the bigger the reward.

* Rise through the chain of command - earn the right to lead an 8-man squad, 32-man platoon and even command a full 128-man army.

Heat added, with the latest patch introducing Playstation Move support and plentiful of tweaks the game at such a price is tempting.

Don't forget Quidco and/or (if still applicable) the Walkers 10% off voucher.

Happy gaming,
Scar

i loved this game then i took a short break came back and it was empty online, such a shame

Awfully tempted especially with an additional 10% off.
Would I get whipped though if I use a Move controller rather than a sixaxis?

I know with Killzone 3 they are, allegedly, implementing the ability to play only Move (or sixaxis) users.

Great price, but with BC2 already out and KZ3 coming soon, there really isn't any reason to go for this. Just my opinion of course. I would say, though, that it's much better than MW2!

!?!

I never took to "Warhawk". It annoyed me that your on-screen character was too big to fit inside the aircraft :)

I saw this in the weekly newsletter and thought it'd get slammed so didn't post it. Seems it's kept its price and popularity!

Tempted by this, but does anyone still play it online? Don't want to buy it just to find no one really plays it any more, or that there are only the hardcore fans left the will kill me within seconds.
#16
You can still play games, but it tends to get busy after 9pm when the yanks come online, but its not massive like halo or cod and you will have to wait for some 128 vs 128 games to start.
#17
What a flop this was. Better than MW 2 ? I will have some of what you are smoking......
#18
Great game.

Cracking game!!!! Still loads of people online, and yes, some games take some time to wait for, but, what do you expect when there are 6 game modes, and 3 'sides' to play for? 128 V 128 needs 256 people in it, so there will be a slight wait. Getting into the smaller Sabotage games, takes seconds/a minute. But, the domination games are cracking. This game beats the hell out of MW2 for it's sheer size, team work, tactics and fun. Heat added, but, can also be found pre-owned at similar/slightly lower price, but new, great.

Game is online only, and it is still well supported by the worldwide community, hence why some times are busier than others, as more US people go on at their peak, than the UK, as there are more in the US than Uk, obviously.

Sales do not equal a good game.

MW2 is awful , they crapped all over the work they did for the brilliant cod4.

MAG is awesome, best FPS of the gen.

I found COD (All of them) to be awful.

What an oaf, I have every console and MW2 and MAG, and MAG is a much better and deeper game. Maybe when you can afford to buy a PS3 the crap talk will stop.

MAG > everything. Price still £17.95

Really? I wasn't taken by it during the various Beta releases (although I appreciate resultant commercial releases should not be [solely] judged on versions provided to gain feedback prior to improvement); see "best game on ps3 @ moment".

I am guessing there have been (many) improvements certainly since the last patch upgraded the game-play & fixed the various issues reported to the development team in the preceding months.

Although first & third person shooters are my favourite genres & £17.95 is the best price I have seen since listed for this title since it was released, I still have plenty of titles I have purchased previously & remain either unopened or have had very little play-time.

MAG offered me nothing new previously, and I have yet to be convinced it does now.

Would you mind offering your thoughts on why you believe your statement to be true?

Thanks.

Get it cheaper by using the Walkers code as well..

Also it's been £14 instore at HMV http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/mag-13-ghostbusters-14-instore-hmv/741588 but I'm sure I saw it online the other day for £14.95 on HotUK.

Will not be getting this, more of a COD MW fan, although I'll be getting black ops as well. Too many games, too little time to play them.

PS. MAG Escalation Expansion Coming The 3rd Of November (Blog.EU.PlayStation.com)
Posted on 28 October by Elliott "Shijima" Martin – European Producer, SCEE
---
This past summer, many of you took part in our latest MAG Beta program to help us test out a number of new features slated for our recently released update, MAG 2.0, and future DLC. Thanks to your devotion, we gathered a surplus of fantastic data that allowed us to make MAG a better game… and we’re not done yet!

Though the MAG 2.0 patch has been available since the end of September, the DLC portion of the beta has remained unreleased — but not for too much longer. Starting on the 3rd of November, our three faction gunplay whirlwind, the “Escalation” Add-on Pack, will be available for download from the PlayStation Store for €7.99/£6.29!

If you didn’t get a chance to play it in our MAG Beta, the Escalation add-on supports up to 96 players, or one 32-man platoon for each PMC, as a separate in-game mode that pits the forces of Raven, SVER, and Valor against each other at the same time. The aspirations for each PMC is to earn the requisite number of points before time runs out or, if time does expire, to have the most points overall. Whichever team meets this goal wins the map and additional Shadow War points.

Escalation gameplay is set up in two phases: For phase one, all three teams battle to hold the map’s A, B and C objectives — but when any of the three PMCs gains control of two of the three objectives, phase two begins. In this second phase, the original three objectives are locked and a new fourth objective (D) opens up. Now, the PMC that forced the phase shift must defend objective D against both attacking groups as long as possible; if D is lost, then play reverts back to phase one again and the war continues on until we have a winner or time runs out.

As beta players have already seen, Escalation offers three completely different environments (maps) to the MAG universe, including the volcanic beaches “Isla de Magma,” the mountainous “Silverback Ridge,” and the desert wasteland of “Radiant Barrens.” As an added bonus, our new add-on pack isn’t just made up of new maps – there are also nine previously-unavailable weapons we’re throwing into the mix too:

Raven: Gotha Elite (Assault Rifle) | KP21 (Machine Gun) | Kinmark SRS (Sniper Rifle)

SVER: Tamsen MK2 (Assault Rifle | Ariet SFW (Machine Gun) | Rubakho SVR (Sniper Rifle)

Valor: M31 CIR (Assault Rifle) | M245 (Machine Gun) | Sentinel M421 (Sniper Rifle)

If this sounds like your brand of DLC fun, we’ll see you again on the 3rd of November!
