Can anybody tell me if this has gps? I dont get how these things work but would like a gps which can be used for geo caching and would be keen to know if this is suitable.

Very nice, thanks to the OP :) Impolite not to buy it at this price. I'll be looking to see what can be hacked for extras.

Comments @ Amazon.com here

I used a satnav for the very first time just a week ago and enjoyed the comfort of knowing it knew where it was. I didn't know where I was but that didn't matter :p

What do people reckon? Better than Navigo at eBuyer? What's the best sub-£50 product at the moment?

Good deal, especially if you can hack this unit for tom tom maps.

But I was helping my mum get a GPS last week, and it was needed urgently so couldnt order online it had to be ready for the next day. Anyway after searching ASDA, Tesco, Argos, Currys and Comet and only finding the cheapest units to be those binatone ones for £60-£70 I said we will have one last check in Halfords. Nothing on display for less than £80, then just as we had given up all hope I noticed a glass cabinet with clearance and Ex display stock in.

And guess what? There was a Garmin Nuvi 660 complete in the box for £39.99! It was an ex display model but it works like a charm, bluetooth calling, full european maps, cameras, real time traffic reports, mp3 player, expandable with SD card, 4.3 inch anti glare screen, and very fast and strong satelite locking. It can even read your text messages to you that are sent to your phone.
I was hoping it was the model with FM music transmitter built in, but I cant complain for £39.99!

Honestly I was amazed, and peed off as its way better than my humble tomtom one v3.

So before you opt for a budget unit, it is worth checking shops. Especially halfords as they carry so many different SAT NAVs that they are bound to have to clear stock from time to time.

I would also recommend garmins, even if you have to buy a new one, such as the Nuvi 205 which is what I have for £89 online (comes with 2010 map upgrade though). The navigation is flawless and super fast to calculate, and speed camera alerts are clear, and then repeat if you're going over the limit for the camera (very useful).

I've got a few friends with Tom Tom satnavs and after having a go with mine they've all said how muc hbetter it is!

I think I would be tempted to stick with the Navigo. There's far more support for it with regards to hacking and the software you can put on it....if that's what you were thinking of doing.

And also make note you are not buying from Amazon but SuperGPS.

 Very nice can be hacked with other software like iGO very easy!
HOT!!!

OT, but can the Navigo one be hacked w/ new maps (2008/2009). I know that the TT maps are pretty old.

They've all gone. If people mention hacks/updates I'd appreciate links etc. Thanks.

ASDA are doing the MY GUIDE 3218 satnav this weekend for £50 for those who missed this. It comes with Western Europe mapping too. It's on eBuyer.com £52.99 item number http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161002

I bought this for $65 (about £35) not long ago.
I couldn't find a way to hack it, so I returned the unit. The maps aren't updated for US/Canada either.
You can get GPS units with 4.3" LCD + Traffic updates that are easily hackable for the same price. So shop around.

Why don't you just get the Navigo as mentioned? There's loads of help on how to set up various software around including Ebuyer's own forum. I love mine - mainly because I can run Memory-Map on it (OS maps) which is great for going on walks as I tend to not follow ordinary maps too well. I'm not sure how easy you could get one of the other units to use other stuff such as Memory Map.

Thanks for that link. I never went for the Navigo because I never knew what people were talking about. Nice that people bother to post a few links!

I've cancelled the Amazon one and taking a close look now at the Navigo.
