£29.79 was probably a bit optimistic but this is still a good price for a great torch.

# High strength aircraft aluminium alloy.
# High intensity light beam.
# Spot to flood focus.
# Projecting beam.
# Spare bulb.
# Manufacturer's limited lifetime guarantee.
# Requires 4 x D batteries (not supplied).
# Size (L)38, (W)6, (D)6cm.

Also makes a good cosh.

i wouldn't recommend these torches as they don't have LED bulbs.
A good LED torch from Dealextreme running on 2 AA's will be nearly as bright for half the cost and a quarter the size.

this one is excellent for around £9.25 delivered.

If you need to whack someone on the head (as security, etc.), i doubt the LED would cut the mustard :o

Just the reason that I voted HOT!!!!!

maybe the description should change:
"large metal truncheon, with torch function"

if you need to cosh someone then an aluminium torch won't cut the mustard either (and yes, I know lots of people recommend maglites for that but they aren't much good at it).

If you need to rattle someone then a lead weight wrapped with duct tape is your friend... =]

You can very easily upgrade the bulb to LED, many kits on Ebay. Got mine from a US seller half the price of UK sellers. These come in way cheaper than the official Maglite LED torch and have brighter bulbs.

We're talking about an aluminium touch with 4 D Cell batteries

Its a good price for a 4D maglite - as the build quality is great.

HOWEVER

This one has a bulb, and the new ones are LED, which also means a different reflector and focus - but also a far brighter light with a far longer battery life - so go for the new LED ones.

Though it's much harder to justify your defence of "reasonable force" if you went out with a lead weight ;-)

I have to agree that with the exception of very long range, focussed beams, conventional torches are dead - LED technology is superior in every way - ok, EXCEPT for hitting people over the head with! :)

Exactly. an aluminium torch. Stick 40 D cell batteries in there and it's still useless. Unless you've got a weak skull you'd have a hard job even hurting someone with that, never mind knocking someone out with it. Again, as a weapon it's pretty feeble. As a torch I can't comment, except that it's expensive for what it is.

hehe indeed, although hitting someone with a torch usually wouldn't be classed as "such force as is reasonable" anyway, not unless they were about to give you a proper beating (in which case you may as well be holding a cat).

Out of stock everywhere near me - have been looking for one of these.

Anyone know where you can get the newer LED versions for a good price?
Thanks
