Aren't these the ones you get free in magazines? I don't see how they have 43 5 star reviews! I thought mine was crap, and that was free! Maybe it's just me...

The ones you get free with a magazine subscription offer are the Maglite AAA, smaller than this one. I have both and have found them to be great little torches.

Ah right, It's been over a year since I received it so I don't recall it being AAA or not. I just hope the AA version is a lot better than the free AAA, otherwise it means my expectations for a torch are far too high! I honestly couldn't tell the difference between a cheap poundland torch and the free maglite I received.

Years ago these were great torches, very bright with a quality construction.
However LED and Cree have moved on to make these old style Maglite torches obsolete. Not only are they nowhere near as bright as LED torches of a similar price, but they are not as economical with batteries either.

get a cree for the same price on dx probably, much bette value these days

Excellent 5 years ago. :( These are old technology. LED has taken over.

I agree; they are completely obsolete. Shop around and you can get a good quality (aluminium) LED torch for less than three quid. Made in China, of course ... but where are Maglites made these days?

Not forgetting that LED bulbs don't fail - always be suspicious of a torch that gives you a spare bulb - you've always lost it before you need it, three weeks later!

"LED lights are the most technologically advanced LED lights available today." Oh, right!

Looks good though.
