The first time you go over a cattle grid has an interesting effect when using one of these.

Such as what? I've had one of these for months and the phone has never moved. The mount has two different sized gaps for different thicknesses of vent so one or theo ther should hold it tight. Depending on the car, I don't imagine it works with every one.

I like mine a lot, wouldn't swap it for a more traditional mount.

Do these not let your phone drop when you encounter one of the myriad of stupid speedbumps there are now?

Agreed, much better with a side gripping vent holder. No need to faff around with magnets and cases. Also no risk of compass interference.

It's not the mount fixing itself which by the way has been prone to break some vents at times but the magnetic plate itself that comes adrift with the judder of the cattle grid.

Not if it's anything like this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00Z620MW8/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481221247&sr=8-2&pi=SL75&keywords=mpow+car+mount

You get two sizes of thin metal plates to attach to the phone (or sandwich between case and phone). Despite having a 5.5-inch phone I've been getting by just using the smaller sized plate (I wanted to save weight). The only times it has unwantedly detached from the magnet was when I accidentally 'punch' the phone when moving between gear stick and steering wheel.

So, despite using the 'too small' metal plate, the phone has not detached from the holder under normal driving conditions.

Remember folks, the law states.

With a properly installed hands free kit or securely cradled phone, you are allowed to press a button to receive or end a call. You are not allowed to press numerous buttons or text messaging as this is both highly dangerous and illegal.
The use of a mobile phone by means of a Bluetooth earpiece or a hands free kit while driving can still lead to prosecution; If the police believe you have failed to have proper control of your vehicle under (Regulation 104 of the Road Vehicles Construction and Use Regulations 1986 Amendment No4 Regulations 2003).
If your involved in an accident while on the phone (hands free or not) the police may consider charging you with driving without due care and attention, careless or dangerous driving. The penalties on conviction for such offences include heavy fines, endorsement, disqualification and in serious cases, imprisonment.
You are permitted to use your mobile phone while driving to call 999 in response to a genuine emergency where you cannot stop safely to make a call.

All. I already have one of these in my A4, i have an iPhone 6 with a case on it.
These magnets are brilliant and very strong. The phone has NEVER come off.
So enough of the negative comments unless you have one.
Just ordered another at this price for the Mrs.
Thanks.

The entire road network in my home city is like a cattle grid.

Or you could just buy a tank.

Batteries are always hot, and often in hot environments too. Best I can tell from Google, you're unlucky if a lithium-ion battery becomes catastrophically damaged below boiling point.

I've just answered my own question

It might slow down or even shut down with a warning if extreme, it's not going to die unless you blast it so much the parts come apart or something.

It seems like everybody has much better car heating/furnaces that I do, but bear in mind that 30 degree weather will turn the inside of a car into an oven as a matter of course and most other phone holders would have your phone and battery sitting on the windscreen in direct sunlight.

If you're not happy putting the heat on near your phone... don't.

Best support I have ever used! By far! You don't even need to glue the plate to the phone, I've glued mine onto the inside of the case (so it gets between the phone and the case).
And for the heat, just shut that one vent. Dead easy.
I've been using it for more than a year and the phone has never fell off!
And I almost throw it when entering the car, that strong the magnet. And it's just a grab and go when leaving!

Was vital info, it won't fit every car as the vents are different.

If you live in Glasgow forget this deal. The roads are the worst in the uk. Even the motorway has potholes here.
