They supply 3 batteries because you will need them


18v Nicad 1.3Ah is NOT a good combination.

I am amazed that Makita still manufacture Nicad tools at all. NimH and now Lithium power is much better. Makita manufacture Nicad 18v 3.0Ah batteries or 2.6Ah Nimh.in 18V.

This is a real mis-matched thrown together product designed to sell because of it's name.

You would be better served 14.4v 2.6Ah Nimh. Lighter in weight, better battery life and if you can find hammer drill option, quite okay.


People get carried away with volt. Makita/Dewalt 14.4v will out perform Bosch etc 18v.


As I have said, this is a budget product designed to capture DIY enthusiast. The 3 batteries is a red herring.
