Prefer the Hitachi version which is also same price. Two LITHIUM batteries not nicads as with the makita. Model DV18DCL, £99 down to £79, only till end of Saturday.
Loads of both models in my local store.

owning hitachi these days is a bit like wharfedale though isn't it,a chinese compay sellng an old japanese (hitachi) or British name (wharfedale)

Makita tools on the other hand are still pro-useage, therefore longevity generally & ultimately VFM
(I could be wrong)

Maybe you'd be interested in my 24V bosch, only 3 years old, done a lot of work but perfect working order, just one problem, nicad batteries last about 2 minutes.
Agree that Makita is better but will never buy another nicad drill. Hopefully the lithiums will last a little longer than this.
Last time the Makita deal was posted here people were commenting on the quality having dropped anyway.

I got the Hitachi one a few months ago and as we've just moved house I've been using it a lot and have to say it's brilliant, complete bargain at this sort of price and I'd never go back to a nicad drill again.

The thing is of course no-one understands batteries!
The way to use a solar set up (for example) is to maintain a charge of Never ever less than 90% charge in order that the batteries life is as long as possible, maintaining retention of charge et al.
Whilst there are different battery technologies the premise to some degree remains true, little & often & back on charge the moment it's not in use.

..however this isn't ultimately time efficient (or indeed accesable location dependent)
Thanks for the info dogswotsits, I'm not being snobbish just trying to max out on price / quality / longevity, ..the last drill i bought (in an emergency was a total mistake, so bad itr should not have ever been made, more landfill which i'm keen to avoid.
