Saw the Oxford Malmaison Sunday night for £1 offer posted, but not that Sunday night can be booked in any Malmaison in the UK for just £10 if you spend £75 or more on dinner.

This deal also works in their sister chain, Hotel du Vin.

I used this to book a night in the Edinburgh hotel in July 2009, and was offered either this rate for a standard room or an upgrade to an superior room for £20.

If you want to stay in a city centre in the UK on a Sunday night this offer is unbeatable (these rooms would normally cost from £150 - £220 per night). Yes you have to pay for a slap up dinner, but I would have been buying dinner anyway, and what a great excuse to eat drink and be merry to use up the £75 allocation!..

If you don't spend £75 on dinner the difference is added to the room bill (e.g. if you spend only £70 say then the room will cost £15)

Or to put it another way: room plus dinner (incl wine!) for £85 for two.

Not a scorching deal and probably of limited appeal, but if it works for you I think it's OK. Better to know about it than not. Would be good to understand why it's being voted cold.

PS In my experience these are very good hotels.

Yeah, everyone hates this deal. But I was looking for a Sunday night offer in Edinburgh and hotels of this quality were at least 100 for just the room. Plus I would have been looking for a nice meal anyway!.. Why so cold? And on my first post! 85 would only buy a stay in travelodge and dinner in mcdonalds!

Have warmed it up a bit but unfortunately it seems to be freezing cold-I think some people just like crushing first deals!
Anyway-thanks for posting.

Agree with some comments here. After a couple of years of reviewing this site and finding several great deals I've recently tried to post some of my own as something of a 'payback'. It's a depressing experience and I wonder why I've bothered. It starts with wrestling with the site itself (no easy reference to rules and mechanisms), then got incorrectly 'spammed' (deleted) because someone who posted a similar (but poorer) deal didn't like it - mod reinstated but a fantastic deal was dead by then. Next one got deleted because the vendor (a big national name) apparently is barred! Another posting went cold when it hadn't been read properly. Some comments are downright ignorant too.

I may give it another go sometime but I'm starting to think it's not worth the effort. I can just take without giving back.

Please keep posting! I added heat 2 mins after this was listed as it looks a good deal even though I won't use it. It's good to have the choice of whether we want to use it or not.

Nice post. Stayed in Oxford Malmaison on Sunday night. Great hotel in brilliant spot in traffic and parking unfriendly city. 110 quid total for a lovely room and a superb meal with drinks. Great value in my mind, but then it was me who posted the Oxford one originally so I guess I'm biased! Oxford is a fantastic visit, Christ Church meadow walk is lovely!

Heat & Rep for you matey!

Guys, people dont "crush first posts" - dont be so cynical.

People vote what they feel to be cold deals cold.

This offer, at best, has a limited appeal, and it isnt exactly a scorching deal.

Rather than blame the site/the people/your mother, accept that the deal, while good for you, might not be good for the majority of others, hence the cold votes.

From my personal perspective, its lukewarm at best. I would have a serious issue paying £75 for a meal at Malmaison - been before, and its seriously overpriced and not all that great quality.

That said, looking at it from a £85 for dinner and bed (I assume no breakfast), for a top quality hotel, it does start to look more attractive.

A good deal is a good deal despite limited appeal-if it's good then it should receive heat not coldness .I vote on tons of things that I personally would never buy but can still see that it is a good deal so sorry MrShed we will have to agree to disagree!.
If a deal is not for you it shouldn't receive cold votes just vote neutral. On the other hand if it is a rubbish deal then vote cold. This is clearly not a rubbish deal.

Let's leave my mother out of this!

Your last line sums it up so, rather than vote cold, if it's not for you just leave it alone. Its appeal will be limited but for those it suits it is actually quite a good deal when properly weighed up. Now it's been killed by multiple cold voters (without any word of explanation) it won't even be seen by the majority who review the hot deals.

I'd much rather see (and maybe ignore) this than wade through hundreds of CD/DVD listings which save 2p! (but I don't vote them cold either, just leave them to those who are interested and move on).

Now I have an 'infraction' for another attempt at a post for a vendor the site apparently doesn't like. Says I should know but how am I supposed to know this? I don't even know what an 'infraction' is or the significance of it.

I despair. Have I accidentally entered some sort of private club where I'm unwelcome? Clearly the only safe thing is to take and not give.

VERY FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I think this is a cracking deal if, like me, you like to treat yourself to a nice hotel and good food every now and again. I ate in Hotel du Vin last weekend and I can honestly say it was the best dinner I've ever had. So I'm excited about the idea of going back and pretty much staying overnight for free (£10 5* hotel stay = free in my opinion!!!!!). Thanks. Heat added (never too late to add a bit of heat!)
