Seems like a fantastic deal but those apartments have terrible reviews online for being dirty and the staff being very aggressive and pushy.

I suppose you get what you pay for though and if things like that dont bother someone its a great cheap holiday for them.
#3
great find for a basic holiday
cheap flights are a problem to find though or I might have risked it
#5
You'd have to pay me to return to Marmaris - what a cesspool.

Haven't voted as it's a good deal for those that like Blackpool.
#6
never been so can't comment, I feel the same way about Tenerife though. You don't get the sun in Blackpool though do you? :p
#7
Yep, been to Marmaris and Tenerife, and there are similarities.

Thing I particularly disliked about Marmaris, is the fact that every single bar, resturant or shop you walk past, will have someone standing near the entrance, that'll try to invite you in. That becomes a real pain in the **** after a couple of days.

The resort of Ishmila, which is not far from Marmaris, is a fair bit nicer.
#8
Took a day trip to Mamaris from Rhodes, and wouldn't go back for a day, let alone a week. Locals were pushy, grabbing your arm to get you in their shops. Even saw pickpockets at work.
Perhaps I just visited the wrong part, but certainly won't be going back.
Not voted.

Pffft. Blackpool had a scorching summer this year :)
#10
you mean icmeler? I suppose Marmaris isnt what you would call a "Top Class Resort" but its not at all bad for that price! i suppose this would be good for like a lads holiday or something. Turkey in general is a really nice place though. Went to Incekum last year with my girlfriend, daughter and mother in law and had a fantastic time!

I love Marmaris .. I went in 1991 and then 2005 .. Yeah i agree about the pushy thing but my friends went last year and said alot of the pushy stuff had stopped due to new laws..

cheapest flight i can find is £200 anyone find any cheaper flying from cardiff?
#14
leroy_owen
you mean icmeler?

Yes, sorry. That was lazy spelling on my part.

Also, for those thinking of going, be careful with excursions which offer a 'free lunch', as that may well invlove being dragged around an affiliated rug warehouse for a couple of hours!
#15
I been to Turkey 8 times over the last 12 years on all sorts of packages (18-30s, family hols, couples hols), and to nearly all of the resorts and I've never had a bad time.
But I do think that it is one of those places that you either love or hate with no real ho-hum middle ground.
A hell of a lot has changed over the last 12 years though, prices being a massive one, the restauranteurs are no longer allowed to step off their premises for fear of being shut down (and this does get enforced) I saw it on three occasions in 2007.
I have always found the Turkish people to be lovely and genuinely keen to talk to you, albeit to expand their lingo, lol.
Anyway hot from me

Marmaris is my second home I go there every year normally 4 to 5 week's at a time I was booked into these apartments stayed there a few nights & left I hated it. Good price but I would never go back there. x:w00t:

You must have been down the beach side or Bar Street as most of the time I stay in the Armatulan area & there's no way it's like Blackpool.

Someone already said about the local's not being allowed to step over their threshold's, they are very strict about that I have a few friends who have restuarant's in Marmaris one of them waved to a friend the police closed them down for 3 day's if they did it again it would be closed for a week & if it happene a third time they would be closed for good.

If you want to have a look for cheap flights, look here - www.skyscanner.net

I use it to check who is the cheapest airline flying to where i want to go, or to just look at the cheapest flight to anywhere from any UK airport.
#22
me the missus and the bot went marmaris a year ago we loved it, my son treated like a king. you do get bugged now and then but a simple no does the trick most times, but i here the laws have been changed to match other parts of turkey. they cant go over the top on asking you to come in etc as if they do and there are complaints they lose there shop/etc + sometimes its worth a listen to what they are saying as there are some real bargains out there
#23
yeah new laws in force, no more excessive pushy stuff..
+ great weather and food in marmaris..
#24
Not voting either way, but have to agree you couldn't pay me to go back to mamaris - awful place - beware locals AND local police....
banned#25
Sounds dodgy to me
#26
those who say they would never go back. i wonder if you stayed in a different area as i loved it and all i spoke to loved it as well,
#27
been to marmaris twice and loved it, yes the shop keeper bar staff etc are pushy but the locals can be VERY friendly, when me and the wife went back for the second time a lot of the local staff recognized us and welcomed us back (and they must see thousands of people) some we still keep in touch with, if you dont like this hotel/appartments try http://www.hotelmert.com/ very clean staff great when we went, beer good and cheap and only 200 metres from the beach

wow really cheap ideal for young groups who dont care where they stay not sure id risk it but i love marmaris stayed there last yr hotel was fab ppl were fab would defo recomend the place
#31
We went to Icmeler last year and loved it, the turks loved my wee boy (blonde hair, green eyes) and i also received a lot of male attention

other half wasn't impressed, although they did become "stalkerish", Marmaris was a lot busier, but a simple no and walk on does the trick, Turkey is immaculate, no litter, excellent food, cheap and cheerful and i would definitely go back this year.

We stayed at the pinewoods apartments in Icmeler and i would go back however there was no night time entertainment but with drink etc cheap what else do you need? lol

Don't listen to what other people think, decide for yourself

Tenerife is the ******** of the earth and Marmaris is ten miles up it!
#33
marmaris is sound. not the nicest place iv been to in the world but far from the worst.

oh and your definatly better off staying in icemeler if you can as it is alot quieter and more scenic. plus marmaris is only a ten minute boat ride away

The majority of posts to this thread would make you ashamed to be British! Just because it is not the same as "home" and the people don't behave with your mannerisms doesn't make a country a dump.

I was fortunate enough to first visit Turkey before the tourist industry was born and loved it - especially the people. I even learned enough of the language to be able to have a conversation in it.

In my view, Turkey is in grave danger of becoming another Costa del Sol (shudder). I wish all those Brits who like "chips like Mum makes them" would go to the Costas and leave Turkey alone. :x

Only been to Marmaris once.. I thought it was a great place.
Very scenic bay, lovely lazing on the beach getting served with food and drink from one of the bars just on the prom.
Easy enough to get on with the locals, be polite and talk to them. They soon learn to leave you alone. Same everywhere in Turkey.

Hot deal at this price, just getting there is not such a bargain.

Chill the heck out; are you saying we should expect pickpockets and just look the other way? Others don't like the 'resort', some don't like how pushy people are - what's wrong with that? People are welcome to not liking being manhandled and forced into clubs and restaurants. You even admit it's in danger of going the way of Costa.. strange.

I went to Marmaris 11 years ago and had my 16th birthday there. Absolutely loved the place as did my parents and my brother who was 14.

There was a local restaurant bar we had dinner a lot as it was close to our apartments. We got very friendly with the family that run it. My brother and I watched the Spice Girls concert with the lads that worked in the restaurant when they did their gig in Turkey.

We went there for my birthday meal and they homemade me the most beautiful gateaux birthday cake with "Happy 16th Birthday Louise" on it!

My dad got really friendly with one of the street sellers too who just loves Scottish people and learning our "lingo"... One night he introduced my dad to "raki" their potent local drink, and they drank a LOT of it one night and he got my dad so drunk it was hillarious, as my dad didn't believe the man it was so strong.

Ahhh that was such a great memorable holiday! I've wanted to go back for years.

Am I alone in thinking this sounds like you and your "wee boy" were in grave danger? :?
