Its just a basket people!
But voted hot since retailers are exploiting the must-have mentality of us parents and charging silly money for this type of thing!

Mamas and Papas = snooty staff, poor service and overpriced tat

Excellent deal, Heat & rep added

It's a shame I baught my mamas and papas moses basket only 2 weeks ago for alot more! You can't beat the quality of the baskets from mamas and papas, all the other ones i saw on the high street were either tacky or had dodgy hoods. Makes me wonder if I need another one just for the sake of it!

Using one of these at the moment (my baby is) good deal..... but i would invest in the rocker stand god send as you can rock the baby to sleep with your foot on the stand...!!Heat and rep added

I'm going to be a Dad in September for the first time. We went to Mothercare for a look around on Saturday.

It is amazing how much stuff they think you need, it is bewildering. Why are the cots half the size of our bed when a baby is around a foot long?

Why are those push chair/pram/travel system things the size and price of three mountain bikes?

I'm totally flumoxed by it all.

What is actually needed from the following:

Cot
moses basket
Travel cot
Travel system (base/car seat thing/ moses basket thing)

Might have to get one of those baby haynes manuals.

I'm expecting my first too, and it can be overwhelming. Of those you list, I reckon you really only NEED the cot and the travel system. The others are just for handiness. But maybe an experienced parent can chip in their thoughts :)

I couldnt of lived without my moses basket and I agree with getting a rocking stand, it was a god send!!!

All I bought was the moses basket to start with and didnt buy the cot till he needed it. My moses basket was huge tho so lasted awhile. you def need the travel system but remember it has to fit your car. The pram section on mine didnt fit my car (i fell in love with it tho and had to have it lol) but the car seat just fitted onto the wheels and was also a god send for shopping trips as all we needed was the weels and car seat and off you went.

I would say def buy a moses basket and travel system unless you want your little one in a cot from day one as some ppl do!
#14
You don't need a cot for a while after birth, as a moses basket is smaller and is far more handy for those first few weeks, maybe till 2-3 months?

If you get a pram with a proper system then I would probably say that that would double up instead of a moses basket except the weight is a lot more, and it is easier to have both, but for the cost then it is worth it IMHO.

I agree,
buy/borrow the following:
moses basket
baby bath (unless your back wont be affected from all that bending over into the bath)
Travel System
Cot

Moses basket was useful - had our little on in our bedrookm for first 6 weeks and then moved the moses basket into her bedroom. Changed to a cot after about 3-4 months

I bought a cheapie £90 travel system (car seat+buggy) from Tesco and quite frankly it was rubbish and almost put the wife's back out trying to steer it in the right direction (it was good for the first 3 months of use). You will use it all the time untill they are old enough to put into a lighter push chair (like a McLaren) so despite my original attitude, its well worth streching to at least £200-£300 system if you can afford it.
It will last, and hopefully travelling with child that much easier.

However, you might find lots of friends with kids have most of this stuff in their loft. Also check out the National Child Birth (ncb?) second hand sales as there are often good deals to be had there on hardly used items.

To be fair, you will get with whatever you have regardless... these little items just make the journey a bit easier.

Just my 2p worth

Moses basket, and a car seat and a pushchair. I have 2 kids, now 7, 11..
If you get a cot get a cot bed so you dont have to buy another bed later on..

Try your freecycle for moses baskets, baths etc.. Just buy new mattress..

Nice, expecting (Dad) in September so gonna start getting some bits and bobs. Also thanks for the heads up on the £5 gift voucher - should cover delivery to my house!

Can anyone recommend a stand from the m&p site to go with this basket? Thanks

Edit: actually the rocking ones all seem to be the same, just different colours http://www.mamasandpapas.com/range/moses-basketsstands/5255/page-2/sort-0/format-grid/size-medium

#21
So glad I waited to get one for my sis. I was going to get one that cost £64.99.the staff really are good at the hard sell in there lol
#22
I had this for my little boy, very good product.

When borrowing/buying second hand cots, moses and cribs always remember to buy a new mattress.

Great price

Loved our moses basket as when our daughter was little she stayed downstairs (asleep) with us until we went to bed and it was great for just lifting off the stand and putting straight into the cot-no fuss. Of course a few hours later she was screaming for a feed but i'll try not to put you off any more Emma ;-)

Congratulations to you and to all the other expectant parents in the thread!
