Still processing for me even though they took the money on Boxing Day!

Better not have a past best before date when I receive mine. If the foodstuff has deteriorated beyond a reasonably expected state and they don't notify about the date being in the past, then the environmental health department can investigate.
No wonder so cheap got a best before date of Jun 2014
I've just had an email stating my items have been dispatched.

White version is now sold out. Red version is available for £19.89 which is the cheapest available option on Mankind.
Video about shaving brush bristles:

http://www.men-u.co.uk/bristles/
Instructions from men-u:

1. Before using the brush for the first time wash with soap and water and then rinse in clean water. When you are ready to shave, immerse bristles in clean, warm water and shake off excess.

2. Apply men-ü shave crème to the side of the wet brush or in the palm of a wet hand. Generate fine, rich creamy lather and distribute about the moistened area to be shaved in a circular motion (You may need to use a little more shave crème with a new shaving brush).

3. For a really smooth feeling – shave again. There may be enough crème left on the brush (another benefit of using a good quality shaving brush) or if not, just add a little more shave crème.

4. Rinse the brush in clean water after use and shake off excess (don’t use water that is too hot or leave in water). Always dry your brush by hanging on the stand provided. The bristles should always dry down and away from the handle as this helps promote the longevity of the bristles and is most hygienic.
Thanks OP, bought this.

Merkur Barber Pole Safety Razor in Black £12.99 (RRP: £39.85) at Mankind

Excellent razor. Very well made and solid. It is heavy, but I have never liked light razors. The handle does feel a little long for someone with medium to large hands. The grip on it is fine as well.

Gutted missed it :( currently shaving with a '73 black beauty and I think the adjuster has gone faulty :( so looking for a replacement while I get it fixed..

Your black beauty razor may just need taking apart and getting rid of all the built up soap scum gunk from over the years. See here for how to take it apart. Otherwise do some searching online or post in a specialised shaving forum for advice.

Thanks for the confirmation buddy, I will keep a look out for bad Derby blades.

As for the alum block, I assumed the stypic pen would do the same job?

Styptic pens are more for sorting out a spot where a cut has occurred. Alum blocks are more for going over the entire face and neck to seal the pores immediately after a shave. In the process the alum block also seals up nicks. Both are useful to have. Cuts are less likely to happen as you gain experience although a momentary relapse in concentration could cause a reminder!

Useful to have both just in case but for me the Osma bloc gets used 99.99% of the time :) An Osma bloc/alum block lasts for ages if it is looked after properly.
Interesting, after reading some very flattering reviews on Amazon I'm going to go ahead and purchase an Osma one too.

Would you say the block works in conjunction with the aftershave balm or should I only use the block?

Thanks for your advice once again.

Basically:

When finished shaving
Wash face with cold water
Use Osma bloc/alum block on your face and neck (I dry it afterwards with a towel after using but the proper way may be to allow it to air dry it- you'll need to check)
Leave the alum you've rubbed on your face for a minute or two..in the meantime wash out your razor, sort your brush out; tidy up and pack away//store your shaving stuff :)
Then you can use a moisturiser or wet face and use a balm
Apply aftershave (optional)

You don't have to use the Osma block and can go straight to the balm. Not everyone uses an alum block. Some people don't get on with it due to their type of skin. It is good for sealing the pores. Some people use Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream instead. Some don't use anything. I find the alum block tells me where I went well and where I didn't with each shave. It isn't essential and I have shaved without using it at times. Useful to have and it does last a long time as long as it is looked after and isn't dropped..otherwise it is likely to shatter.

Give it a go with the Osma bloc and see how things go. It will sting a little on areas you haven't shaved so well. A bit like giving your shave a result and review on how well you've done.
Brilliant, thanks for confirming the order of what to use.

As for the Osma bloc, you have pretty much mirrored what has been said on the majority of reviews on Amazon. Many say that they dry the block with a towel so it will last forever as long as it isn't dropped.

Will keep the thread updated with my progress, I have a feeling that Mankind won't deliver till after the New Year.
You're probably better posting in the DE Shaving Thread :)

Well you'll be able to get the new year off to a new shaving start! It will probably be a week or so until the deliveries arrive. TheHut and Zavvi usually take a few days when I have ordered from them with the free delivery option.

Took a look at the No.7 range, all seemed to contain parabens.

Apart from the Parabens lol. There isn't much evidence outside there regarding an increased risk to men however a brief study suggested that there is a link to breast cancer because it was found contained within 18 out of 20 breast tumours that were dissected. Even some high end cosmetics contains Parabens and they art hard to get away from because there can be found in shower gels, cosmetics and even toothpastes.

Heat for the price. I was an avid user of lab series range for men but in the end found it no better than clinuque. After years of using to clinuque I then moved to No7 which is great value when boots have their offers on. Also a plastic surgeon that I work with stated that No7 moisturiser has everything you need to promote healthy skin. :)

What I have learned over the years is that you don't necessarily need to pay more for brands like lab series and clarins in fancy packaging, when you get the same result if not better from No7 at a cheaper cost.

Hence only £14 per 100ml which is comparable to No7. Each to their own but regardless it's a good price (for the premium product it is) and that's what people post deals on this site, as it's a deal in its own right.
