Sure antibiotics dont cure the cold and theres signs up saying such in thee doctors but it dosent stop them giving it to you and the cold dissapearing.

This is one of the most idiotic things I've ever seen posted on HUKD. And thats saying something.

'Manuka type', there's a new one!

That's like Ford doing a car in racing green and calling it a Jaguar Type Ford.

Zero evidence that Manuka honey has any health benefits swallowing it! The only semi proven one is that possibly rubbing it on an open wound might speed recovery....

It helps with the cold, the strong stuff does anyways and pretty sure there will be loads of evidence about.

"Mānuka honey is a monofloral honey" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C4%81nuka_honey.
"Ingredients says 'Raw unpasteurized new Zealand multi floral manuka type honey',"

So, no, it's not real Mānuka honey. It's somewhere between meaningless and deliberate deception. Not that's there's much evidence the real thing is as special as sometimes claimed.

Apparently twice as much Manuka honey is sold around the world than is produced!

If you're talking about the illness 'the cold' then this won't help. Manuka honey is supposed to have antibacterial properties, the cold is a virus

Good manuka honey start from around £12 for 340g, could end up paying around £25 per jar depending on strength. Wedderspoon and steens are top notch brands if someone is interested :) For 3.49 I doubt you could get just normal honey from local hive ;)

What is the 'strength' measuring?
#22
I used to buy 12+ when I lived in NZ. Nit much point buying anything stronger unless I planned rubbing it on cuts!

The Aldi Manuka Honey I found has an activity rating of 10+ Though a lab report I saw tested a jar and it came up as 9.5%. Levels above 8 are supposed to have therapeutic benefits. Holland & Barrett sell a 20) at nearky £30 a jar so it would make sense to buy this and eat twice as much for a fraction of the price :)

I found this useful infographic:

Just google manuka and cold and see what it says, I have felt the cold coming and taken it and havent got the cold and know others who have done the same. Sure antibiotics dont cure the cold and theres signs up saying such in thee doctors but it dosent stop them giving it to you and the cold dissapearing.

Don't you think 21st century science would have cottoned on to that by now?

Yeah loads of evidence, published in the journal of homeopathy

There's no reason that this has to come from New Zealand. The manuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium) can be grown anywhere - there's plenty of them in Australia and I recently saw them on the Scilly Isles just off Cornwall.
#31
Local raw honey from your beekeepers for around £6 a small jar is the best.

it's simple mass produced junk is heated killing off the good, the load corn syrup added in some cases and finally lots of crap to make it too and taste consistent.
#32
Prefer jam.
#33
Sugar is sugar where ever it comes from and gives tooth decay.,obesity and diabetes as the very least. What ever the benefits are negated by the sugar content of this concoction.
#34
Best thing to do is just buy it and eat it :3

I love a slice of toast with a mug of coffee in the morning so much so I just invested in a Dualit classic toaster which does my toast just the way I like it. Spread this on and you have a nice start to the day.

Has this got any medicinal properties? I don't know but I hardly get colds although people around me seem to get them quite often.

I love this comment. What the hell are you doing going to the doctors when you have "the cold"? The doctor is giving you medication because it's not worth the headache to tell you to stop wasting his time and buy a pack of Lemsip. Keep eating your Manuka and keep your pockets stuffed with posies while the real world rumbles on.

Real Manuka ah yes with it's UMF which is Unique Manuka Factor which translates as bullsh*t marketing to make you pay ridiculous amounts for honey.

Antibiotics can only treat bacterial infection, the common cold is caused by multiple different viruses, using anti
biotics to treat a common cold is completely absurd reckless and outright stupid. There haven't been any new antibiotics for 30 years, the situation is becoming desparate. Drug companies are only interested in profit, there are some promising soil based anti biotics, for the sake of the human race, maybe a drug company will develop one, then again they're out to make money so it's doubtful.

Poor old honey. And it's the only food on the planet that never goes off (or something like that)!
