Also mean to add that most of these are also £5.93 at WHSmith entertainment, if thats better for any reason.

99.9% of these you would be better off getting the DVD for cheaper and letting the upscaling do its work
the only BR worth getting are those that have enhanced picture and audio so you can appreciate it
#8
Martyrs is brilliant, just don't expect to feel too uplifted at the end!!

American History X though.....genius!!

OrderedTime bandits:D

You must be kidding.

Well done to the poster for the effort of typing out all those films, but I am surprised at how poor that list is overall, with maybe one or two exceptions!

Depends on the size of your screen.....the difference between upscaled DVD and BR is pretty noticeable on my 106" projector...

I wish there was a thumbs down button (_;)
Any film can benefit from blu-ray, when given a good transfer. Even 16mm films can look a lot better on blu than their DVD counterparts.

But the good transfer is the important bit. Not all films get a great treatment... I believe Predator is one example that springs to mind, where the quality of the BluRay was meant to be worse or the same as DVD according to some BR review sites. At these prices its probably worth a punt but I always try to find reviews of the transfer itself when spending more on older films. Of course some films like 2001, Godfather and Bladerunner are treated with total respect.

Do you think any orders will arrive before christmas? I've heard bad things about delivery speeds.

Looks good on HD and I'm a sucker for foreign films. The ending is a little flat, I grant you that.

The Host is absolutely fantastic, no doubt.

At last some people talking sense... not all blu-ray transfers are worth the expenditure! I nearly bought "TIme Bandits" for a Christmas present a few weeks ago but thanks to the power of Google I've found out the transfer is apparently pretty shoddy to say the least!
Before I buy a blu-ray I now always Google for a review and it's surprising how many aren't all that good...
#25
thanks op

I agree with your sentiments, another thing I take into account is whether I am likely to get anything more from the blu-ray than I get from the normal dvd.

I know that even blu-ray doesn't really do the original celluloid full justice but I can see that a good dvd version might be all I'm ever going to be interested in.

I have to agree with some of the comments on Blu-ray transfers. My wife and I brought Die Hard a couple of months back, and was bitterly disappointed to find it no better than the DVD version...

I have had a few blurays i wished i hadn't bothered with too.
blu-ray.com is useful for reviews. It looks at picture and and audio quality.
