Switched socket outlets should be banned

Switched socket outlets should be banned

Why.

99p store had MK sockets and switches last week
#3
MK sockets are only pence dearer so why get these?

Because.............?????

I agree with the comments re MK. MK and/or Crabtree aren't a million miles away from these prices (depending on where you shop and you status ie tradesman), so in my opinion, go for MK and/or Crabtree.

After constant switching, the switch becomes un~serviceable. Thus extra costs for installion etc

MK are the best, always have been
#7
B&Q had loads of these and the twin outlets for £1 at the Leicester Branch on clearance for anybody local.

Most sparks prefer Crabtree.

Im a spark and MK harly fail, however, Crabtree are good too.

Why buy low quality fittings when "Quality " and well proven track record fittings cost a little more.Truly false economy. Just as a qualified Electrician.
#11
Ok, for domestic use (Hot)

I can't remember ever having a switched socket fail, and in the very unlikely circumstances of one failing a new socket is very cheap and simple to fit.

I think silly comments should be banned.

This is a just standard socket from Electrium who also make the Crabtree range if you look at them both at Screwix the Crabtree range is styled differently. I would prefer this standard style of socket in my home as it matches all the others.
#15
hot! as screw fix is 17p more, and they tend to usually have the best price for sockets etc
#16
Just a quick comment, but these are single pole switched sockets. These are always cheaper, compared to double pole switched sockets. I wouldnt fit single pole in my own house though I dont believe they are any more or less safe other than in particular situations. eg cross polarity, earth/neutral faults causing tripping from faulty appliance. I just prefer knowing that both circuits are off when i go to bed or leave the house.

Your's is a silly comment if ever I saw one.

I've had several fail, cheap unbranded ones from Screwfix and Marbo from B&Q. I've learned my lesson, spend the extra and buy quality especially where electrical items are concerned.

so then just leave it switched on and pull the plug out - defeating the object really as thats exactly the purpose of the switch

as for hot deal, they are this price in many places - so cold from me just to counter all these votes by people who dont have any idea what a 1 gang socket should cost

So therefore, buy good quality sockets, don't ban switched sockets, which is the comment that is being criticised as silly!

Plug sockets are switched far less often than light switches. A well made switch such as the ones on the MK sockets should last the lifetime of the electrical installation 15-20 years easily. I have seen the cheap switches fail within the installtion life time, but having had MK in home and at work, I've yet to see a failure with the switch mechanism.

Take a look at the rear assembly quality not the fascia, imo MK is significantly better. The Marbo plugs sockets are made to price, on the assumption that they will be upgraded sooner rather than later. If you prefer to fit and forget, spend a bit more.

I laughed at these comments last night!! Surely a sparky who is browsing the net at 3pm could do with a few costly jobs to replace some sockets to make up the rest of a days shift!!?
