It's an entirely new concept. Prices will remain high until they 1) Learn to manufacture the cartridge cheaper and more efficiently 2) The console actually releases.

The cartridge thing definitely isn't the reason - new console is absolutely the reason, they gouge us because they can. Always the case with any new console that game prices are higher on average then move down. I expect this to go a fair bit lower before launch, still 3 months.

LOL! So true. But then again, if you divide the price of the originak MK8 by the amount of hours played on it, then it's one of the cheapest games I've ever bought.

This is the first time. Yes they have used the same track names in games, but they were always substantially different or at the very least updated. Generally with each MK game release there has been a significant increase in the number of tracks and driver characters. All this said, for the record I am not keen on this MK8.5 nonsense. Not a fan of where they went with MK8 Wii U either in terms of introducing characters from other games, and tracks based on other games (Zelda/Animal Crossing).I actually believe we will not see a MK9 on the Switch now. If there is going to be a MK9 in the next couple of years I would bet on it appearing on 3DS as there has been lots of Mario games, and even 2 x Mario Party games released on 3DS. I get the feeling there is something else like Mario Kart in the horizon for Switch, but not Mario Kart and different. Another character but a similar type of game. Bowser's Boat Battle, or Waluigi's Wing's (a flying racing game) or even Mario Galaxy Racing (spaceship racing in space) for example. Might sound a bit out there, but time will tell I suppose...

This was quite blatant and even transparently acknowledged on the thread, but that is just how it is with many's perception and attitude towards Nintendo at the moment. It is a bit selective to focus on that or any other single thread to present an opinion and perception. Happy to give you the benefit of the doubt, but perhaps you have not seen numerous other threads where I have conveyed my disassastifcation at Nintendo. For a long time now I have consistently dismissed the 2DS console as what I see as an embarrassing bit of old tech for Nintendo, and an inferior unit. Even recently with the Switch I have expressed my disappointment at MK8 Deluxe and even MK8 Wii U in many threads over last 2 weeks. That is just for starters and there is much more, I could reel of a bunch of gripes about Nintendo, but it would nothing I haven't said a million times before. If I think Nintendo do something badly and I am disappointed, I will say it without even giving it a second thought.I admit I do actively try to restore some balance for what is clearly an anti-Nintendo establishment some have going on Nintendo threads. If that means you want to call me a troll, or others say the Nintendo Defence League is here again and all that sort of stuff, so be it. I can take a bit of that, but I don't ask the section of hard core anti-Nintendo mainstream gamers to come into the Nintendo threads and spread their genocidal hate of Nintendo. I really don't understand it frankly, I am not aware of any Nintendo players doing the same thing on mainstream console threads. You won't be surprised that I disagree with you entirely that the Switch needs COD, Battlefield and the usual generic gaming. That is all very subjective IMHO though and respect your differing opinion on that. Sega's console failures were quite different and in a different era. Sega was mainstream at that time and had competition from Nintendo who were also mainstream back then. Nintendo in the current gaming climate have no competition sadly for their market, which is a bad thing. Sega also mismanaged their Alex Kidd mascot incredibly badly. They had a winner there for me. And although Sonic has been very successful they didn't utilise Sonic well enough after the initial games to protect their console production longer term. For the record I am a Sega fan to this day, and have had several Sega consoles in my time and feel sad like many, they are off that scene. Nintendo have such a good brand with the Mario franchise alone (as in all Mario games), it will always see them right. The Mario franchise is the best selling gaming franchise of all time in video gaming. I am sure someone anti-Nintendo will want to argue that fact, and they can do so if they wish, without further reply from me, because it will still remain a fact. It seems to me we just want a Nintendo console to be different things? And I am happier because I am getting more of what I want it to be (although it is not perfect by any means), I am quite satisfied and in truth don't really have any other options/choices than Nintendo for the type of gaming we want in our household. I do like Nintendo, but I do also play it by default.

Great response, and i do wholeheartedly agree with most of it. I think the thing that riles up lots of Nintendo fans that have perhaps swung them towards non fans is the crazy decisions. The Wii U was gimmick ridden and really expensive, and everyone was really rooting for a change of direction from Nintendo, then the rumours came out that it was going to be sub £200... and there was hope. Then the reality came in that the peripherals are expensive, games are expensive, the screen isn't great and the battery life isn't really fit for purpose. And its still expensive, its just so frustrating. And the launch line up? come on, that is hard to justify, with 1 game of interest and it would be best played at home on the sofa. I would love their games to be multiformat and for them to kill off their console division.

A lot of people, even those who are technically and mechanically intelligent, said the cartridge would be very small or impossible due to costs. I wouldn't rule out the cartridges adding to the cost.

Zelda is 13GB. If we then find a 16GB Micro SD card it would be around £5, which isn't nothing. Bought in mass, this is obviously far cheaper, let's say £2.50. However, the cartridge read speed is really fast, probably faster than an SD card, so it is probably more expensive.

Will the cartridge be super expensive? No, but I wouldn't be surprised if it cost them between £2-5, but who knows. At this point it's patented and they won't tell us anything about it. You can be assured that the prices will be higher at the start due to setting up costs to make them though i.e. renting/buying the factory, the machinery and so on.

Aye, for some insane reason, Nintendo are supplementing British game prices for the Switch. It's ALWAYS been the opposite; they were even sued for it in the past.

It's 2017 and cartridges are cheaper than ever to manufacture in bulk discounts and contracts also size increase per price improved much more than before. Can't compare a seperate SD card to it it's entirely different. It's not to do with the cartridge at all it's just launch price gouging.
Even then this old game particularly should not be full price at all just because very few things were added nothing else was touched no remastering etc just a res bump

How can anyone vote hot on a deal for this. Nintendo need to hire more staff or pull their fingers out. Why is mk9 not a launch game ? This is just mk8 with a lick of paint. 99% of Wii u owners have mk8 and 90% of Wii u owners will be switch owners. How can you get excited for this. They managed to create 8 new dlc tracks so why couldn't they musture a full new game in time for march . Seriously lagging behind the competition. Sure I know Nintendo do their own thing but when other platforms can fit in 2-3 full releases of a franchise in a consoles lifetime and Nintendo are still flogging this horse on their new console it gets a bit much. Can almost guarantee a new smash bros game early 2018 with absolutely zero innovation and just a new set of levels but maybe a few never seen before characters and people will go daft over it. Xbox giving away free games every month, re-upping the console , good value and stable online , huge library of games, the list goes on. I'm a Nintendo fan and I'm still exited about switch , but damn you really don't get much for your money with them .

The big N know their fans will pay around £300 for a console just to play Zelda. Then a few months later pay to play online (to you know play the handful of games that will actually feature online multiplayer). Need for Speed is the highest selling racing franchise ...

Looks like someone has been on Wiki or similar en.wikipedia.org/wik…ses ?? Well I did say "favourite" which can mean a lot of different things I suppose. I didn't claim "best selling". But seeing your bring up the point of best selling racing franchises, Need for Speed has always been a cross branded systems/multi-format game. It depends on how you present information really, and the context of how it is presented.

One might add: "No individual racing videogame has ever sold more than 2008's Mario Kart Wii. As of 11 April 2016, it had amassed sales of 35.76 million copies. As of the same date, it was also the third best-selling game of all time.
As another testament to the enduring appeal of the Mario Kart franchise as a whole, the second-placed all-time racing game top-seller was Mario Kart DS, with lifetime sales of 23.39 million units. As of the same date, Mario Kart DS was the 12th best-selling game of all time."

Various sources available for the above, but how about: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/best-selling-racing-video-game/

I think anyone with a sense of realism would agree Mario Kart is the nations favourite racing franchise game, would you not concur?

I think having a sense of realism would be entirely lost on you, as what you mean is your own personal favorite racing franchise. You, as far as i'm aware, do not speak for the nation. And you cannot in the same sentence say that Need for Speeds sales don't make it the favorite, only Mario Karts sales make it the favorite in a scenario that it wins in. You understand basic irony don't you? If you don't its either available for free in a thesaurus or will be a launch title on the Switch for £57.99

Is not about my favourite dude. And of course I don't speak for the nation. I just quoted some published and widely recognised information (i.e. is fact) that it is the nations favourite racing franchise. You are choosing to ignore the fact as it does not fit what you were trying to say. From your posting on the Switch threads, I get your disillusioned with Nintendo or just another general Nintendo hater maybe, I have no idea which you are, only you know and I make no assumptions. What ever your gripes it is not really any reason to be dismissive of a valid factual point. Is also no reason to get personal.

Is okay to stand corrected once in a while and concede a point. I am not going to argue Need for Speed is the best selling racing game of all time and have readily acknowledged that. But if you want to keep insisting Mario Kart is not the nations favourite racing franchise, show us what you have actually got to debate that (just, please don't get personal though).

Is clear you are the one who associates sales with "favourite" when favourite implies a number of things. I have just responded to that. If you look at sales on a like for like basis then MK has sold this most copies on specific brand of console(s) over a certain period of time. To measure it against the total sales of a franchise game across multi formats and multi manufacturers of systems can not be a fair measure of "favourite". Is clearly not reflective. Like I said I have not argued and instantly recognised Need for Speed is the best selling racing game of all time. As stated in this post and previous posts on the thread though, it all depends how FAIRLY you want to present the information. I think I have been pretty fair in the way I have presented the information.

Clearly i think its apparent that i don't concur, this is part of why I have to be careful with my wording so that its understood by all spectrum's of individual. Now tell me, how are you quantifying favorite? lets drop all mention of sales then, i would love to know how you would gauge a nations wants. I have a NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, various gameboys dating back to the first one, 4 DS' and 4 2DS in the household, the reason I take such objection to the rubbish you spout is that it is embarrassing. You claim that other consoles are mainstream and confuse that with popularity, overlooking the main point that Nintendo dropped the ball from the Wii U and its remained dropped. I love Nintendo but cannot justify a console purchase for 5-6 games per generation. Honestly you seem like a nice person, but it comes across as troll-like when you continually spout rhetoric. As for other non Nintendo posts I saw your comments in the Game of the Year thread when you were trying to argue Mario Party or some equal guff be included. They wont get a free pass, SEGA never did and it died its death. If I think Nintendo do something badly and I am disappointed, I will say it without even giving it a second thought.

I admit I do actively try to restore some balance for what is clearly an anti-Nintendo establishment some have going on Nintendo threads.

I think … Great response, and i do wholeheartedly agree with most of it.

Wii U Peripherals were a mixed bag for me. My Mario/Luigi/Peach/Yoshi PDP pads which were all £11-14 each thanks to HUKD deals! I matched them with the same 4 official character Remotes for £35 each. Now that is quite expensive, although I would recognise the official character remotes were high quality. I can't quite remember but have a feeling my Wii U premium black came with 1 x Black remote which I sold for about £30, which I suppose subsidised all that. But putting that to the side, I spent close to approx. £190 so we could have a good 4-player experience at home. Taking into account the PDP pads are budget pads effectively and not premium, that was pricey looking back.

It might be a good thing for my wallet if there is no motes being used for the Switch. I may get away with just purchasing 2 x additional Joy-Cons which I am willing to give a chance. I have optimism I won't be too fleeced with controllers this time, fingers crossed really.
