Yes, I know it isn't out until April (hopefully), and I know that there may be cheaper pre-orders in the future, but for now Play (and ShopTo) are the only places taking pre-orders, as far as I can see, and £29.99, plus quidco, is a decent price IMHO. If a cheaper price comes up elsewhere, you can always cancel this one.......

From the details that are appearing, this looks like being one of the games of 2008 - with 12 player online multiplayer and motobikes too! Can't wait......

"Nmag Gamepro magazine claims the game will feature 32 courses - half of which will be brand new, half old favourites.

The mag also claims Baby Peach and Boo will appear as drivers, snaking will make a comeback, Battle mode will be playable online and the controls will be similar to those in Excite Truck.

Or not. According to a spokesperson, "Nintendo has not announced any further information on Mario Kart. We've spoken to the magazine and it's just pure rumour and speculation on their part."

So what do we know about MK Wii? It'll work with the new Wii steering wheel, and up to 12 players will be able to race online. Plus it's got motorbikes. Mario Kart Wii is due out in the first half of this year."

It's gonna be rubbish... I love Mario Kart, but why bother calling it Mario Kart when they are using motorbikes and what not? Stupid... I'll not get it til I have heard played opinions on it, I think... as I've done with every Wii game since I got it... *sigh*
#9
I doubt anyone will know, but is this bundles with the steering wheel, or is that a separate add on?

Not that it matters so much - ordered anyway :)

Rubbish? It's pretty much a Nintendo flagship title. There's a Mario Kart on near enough every Nintendo console, and each one has been incredibly well received. But sure, let's instantly discount it because Peach is on a motorcycle.

When is this coming out?

I cannot wait for this game, it's gonna rock!

According to play - "Due for release on 25/04/2008". But I guess that is not set in stone, dates change, etc.

Personal preference perhaps.... however, the SNES version is still the only decent one. N64 version was okay, but added far too much 'extra' that took away from the simple enjoyment of the game. Double Dash was just plain dull and was the first of the titles to introduce non-kart vehicles, thus making it Mario Racing instead, in effect. This is just the next step in the move away from what Mario Kart is meant to be about.

Considering there have been only four versions of Mario Kart to date, it's hardly a track record we can use for comparison. The only one to have gotten as good a mark as the SNES original is the DS version, which had to be simple by design. The wii version is going to be a mess, thanks to the multitude of bad options and stupid vehicles and the plethora of characters. Also, Double Dash was received well for the first five minutes... then everyone realised what a load of dull cobblers it really was.

Give me the honest simplicity of Super Mario Kart on the virtual console and I will be happy and Nintendo can keep their new versions.

Anyone know when you get charged on a pre-order. Is it like amazon where they charge your card when the item is dispatched?

They had one for the Gameboy Colour. I used to play it loads

I dont really agree with some of the above comments,

the Snes game WAS excellent at the time, but i;d still rather play double dash now both multi and single player because it plays better. My Snes is still happilly set up but the handling on the original Mario Kart by todays standards is awful and near unplayable! excellent at the time and a classic, but even the medicore DD is better!

I agree the SNES version may look outdated and be difficult to play but it is still a classic.

And the N64, DS and GBA versions of Mario Kart are way better than DD.

DD may be a fun racer, which is half decent, but that does not make it a good Mario Kart game.

All Nintendo games should stand out and they have high expections because they are (nearly always) brilliant and DD shames the Mario Kart series.

They should release a new online version of F-Zero as well.

I'll go with the DS version being the best 'all rounder', and the best game on DS!

So, there was the Snes, GBA, N64, Gamecube and DS version, thats 5 in my book any day of the week :)
I will agree that the GC version was naff, but many people liked it so Nintendo are possibly going with the same flavour again, however, you can not say a bad word about the DS itteration of the game, it included some of the old classic tracks from previous versions of the game, and added online multiplayer....for free!!!Awesome game, I still play it now some days.

I really don't see how the snes version is that much better that the N64 verion.. and how is DD aweful?

I'm a person who much prefers gameplay over graphics and have always been a big nintendo fan... but i personally think the snes version wasn't easy enough just to pick up and play... i can agree that sometimes that DD can get a bit silly at times but its all part of the fun, i think more insane it gets the better tbh, and having 3 friends round and going 9 laps on baby park on DD is a hell of alot funner than anything on the snes version.

I'm not saying the snes version isn't an absolute classic, and for the time it was alot better than double dash was for its time, but that doesn't make it a better game..

I hope i'm not on my own here.. and i'm sure the new mario kart on the wii will be as epic as all its predecessors.
