Mario and Luigi return in Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Bros. the fourth installment of the popular RPG series Mario & Luigi. The story opens with Princess Peach and her staff, plus brothers Mario and Luigi in tow, being invited for a sightseeing trip to the mysterious Pi’illo Island by its equally mysterious proprietor, Dr Snoozemore. But after an initially hospitable welcoming to the island – albeit with Dr Snoozemore noticeably absent - things take a turn for the worse when Princess Peach is kidnapped and pulled into a Dream World by a new enemy in the series, the ghostly bat king Antasma. To chase down this new foe and rescue Princess Peach, Mario must enter this Dream World through the dreams of a sleeping Luigi, whose brain is revealed to be on a wavelength with the population of Pi’illo Island, the Pi’illo Folk. Alternating between Luigi’s Dream World and the real world, Mario and Luigi must solve puzzles, battle enemies, and even interact with creations of Luigi’s own imagination in order to succeed!

I ain't a fan of Selects packaging either. Is pointless/needless to me and does not do anything for gamers. They could just reduce the games to those prices and keep the original packaging. It is tacky and less desirable than the original artwork.

Some think the selects artwork and branding is to protect gamers original investment and value in the more collectible original games. I personally don't believe that to be the case in the slightest. Is more just a rebranding marketing exercise by Nintendo to flog some games under a budget label.

I've picked up select/gamers choice/platinum (ps1 baby!) titles over the years on various systems and am glad i did. If your a latecomer to a particular system or someone who cant afford a particular title on initial release as it was too pricey its an affordable option.

Granted the choices made are sometimes bemusing but look at how Ocarina 3d held its value for ages and; on a personal note stopped me from buying it. Now you can own it for just over a tenner, and that's a good thing.

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter. If hit by the proverbial bus tomorrow no one is going to be critiquing my game collection for having the odd selects title. (they'll all be at my state funeral i assume?)

my thoughts exactly, I was also thinking of the platinum series PlayStation had on ps1/2.
I was also very glad for oot being in selects, I got the game when the 3ds came out as for some reason I was very eager to play it on the train, however recently -or this year- I got a new 3ds for hyrule warriors and wanted to play oot again as it had been something like 5 years, not totally sure where the cartridge for it is and I also really wanted it as a digital copy because I have too many physical games to keep track of anymore. Because digital games are ridicilous and their price doesn't reflect physical value, I would probably have to pay £40 had it not been a select title, £16 is still too much for a game I already own realistically, but I still got a lot of hours out of it again.

Selects/platinum/budget and so on are great for so many reasons and likely they print more of them so more people can get hold of them as well.

While I can take your points on board, and agree lower prices of older titles (and sometimes not so older titles) are absolutely a good thing, it is ultimately the same product but just in different *tackier* packaging. I still can't see the point of it. Most other manufacturers of products are able just to lower the price of stuff with feeling the need for changing the products packaging from something nice to something ghastly. Does not need this Selects nonsense. You don't need to put the cartridge (3DS) or CD (Wii U) in a new Selects branded case to offer the reduced price. Can just keep the same artwork of the existing case and lower the price, everyone is happy?

While some associate Selects with reduced pricing, some of us associate it just as much if not more with ghastly packaging.

My son will not care what the cover says, he's interested in playing the game so he will (hopefully) enjoy playing this at Christmas. Ordered, heat added, thanks.

They likely make more, maybe on cheaper run and want to remarket it to an audience that missed it first time around. Being a select, classic or platinum tends to also tends to signify that's it's worth a re-release so more buyer confidence.
Just dropping the price on an older game doesn't help it market as well certainly not from an advertisement perspective. End of the day if you already have the game, the re-release is not aimed at you.
