Why does a Best Before date REALLY matter? Use by date is the only important one..

A best before date matters as some things taste horrid after the best before date.

Example?

They don't suddenly turn at midnight you know!

BB date may be an indication that they are older stock but how they're stored is probably more important.

best b4 date means its better quality before that date after that date the quality is not as good as but still can be eaten its only if its says use by that its not recommended that you still go ahead and eat it but people get confused with best b4 and use by

In my experience crisps tend to go soft and taste unpleasant soon after the best before date.

In my experience they often do that BEFORE the BB date.

In my experience I am still eating Walkers Cheese and onion that are still crisp and tasty with a best before date over 2 years old.
Anybody passing by my pad in Benidorm is invited to come and sample as proof, that goes for my exIceland multipack chocky bars at £1 a pack also 2 years past best before date. I bulk buy when I visit England if these offers are on.

No they don't. They just don't expect a retailer to be profiting from foodstuffs which are way past their date, be it best before or otherwise.

Any respectable retailer would reduce and clear them from shelves prior to the best before date. Instead they either fail to find them in their warehouse and then shove them on sale way past their date, or they possibly buy stock from wholesalers which is past its best before date for next to nothing then sell them on.

As a point of note, food with only a best before date doesn't last forever. It is perishable and eventually will start to rot and bacteria will multiply.

The store i went in had never even heard of this deal. The till assistant called the manager over and they had a discussion over it.Loved the way the op kept the expiry date from the details in both of his/hers only 2 posts.

The OP was trying to give people a chance to get the deal. Unfortunately like the majority of posters does not realise how companies supply the various branches. Although a company may supply some of it's branches it does not supply to all thus causing confusion amongst HUKD members.
Here are a couple of examples:-

A company has several distribution depots but a certain product/deal only comes into one or two of their depots and this product/deal will only be distributed to the shops/outlets on it's list so not national but covering a large area of distribution so some people may find the deal but not everybody.

A company has maybe 3 grades of shop/store and grade one may get every product they sell, grade two may get nearly everything they sell but reduced quantities and grade three will get some of the produce at reduced quantities but not all the produce.

This often infuriated me when delivering that I would be unloading a product off my lorry in Milton Keynes but when I went to my store in Luton could not find it in their store for the reasons given. Could not necessarily buy it in Milton Keynes when I was delivering due to security reasons. i.e. not having products on my person when going through security at my depot when leaving for home.
